this is ridiculous, just doing the job atm.... there is no movement in that bracket at all. I have removed all the bolts, excluding the bolt that goes across the width of the alternator (looks like a b**** to get back in). How exactly do i remove that silver bracket to get access to the plastic tube the stat is in?

Since i bought the car 2 months ago ive spent my time fixing it, ive piled about £700 into it, gone over my overdraft limit by £150. I haven't driven the car in about a month and a half, the only miles ive put on the clock was the day i bought it driving it home. Its had a full top end rebuild and loads of new little bits. Just about to do the thermostat and water pump tommorrow. Then im selling it. For less than what i bought it for. My first corrado experience has been a nightmare, never again for at least a few years...im off to buy a £250 ford with tax and run it on sunflower oil for a few thousand miles. ...As Lemar once said, "Is there any justice in this world?"

ok cheers guys. Anyone got a decent diagram of this? I mean perhaps an EKTA exploded one or something. The Haynes is crap, as the one i have has 2 pages for the 16v.

Hi all, cooling issues seem to be the topic of the moment! Was wondering how easy it is to remove a thermostat on a 1.8 16v KR engine, i need to do it today and have minimal tools. What would i have to do?? Cheers Steve
-
ah sorry, 1.8 16v KR. Crap well ive been sold a relay for the "electric cooling fan" by VW.
-
get a new temperature sensor?
-
Hey, Trying to change the relay for the fan switch (radiator cooling fan) and i can't quite work out which one it is. Ive got my haynes manual and etka open but im a little puzzled! Any help is appreciated! Cheers, Steve

Hi, After finding a chipped exhaust valve wasn't my only problem, and that there was actually a crack in the head, i managed to get a 1.8 16v KR head off ebay. Now....the engineering company have just rung me to say its in good condition and that they can recondition it for me now. However, my brother seems to think there is a difference between the Golf and Corrado 1.8 16v KR engines. We initially thought they were identical, however i think he has researched a bit more and found info on exhaust outlets are smaller and that cams are wrong?? Please help asap as i really need my car back, ive had it on the road for 2 weeks, my first corrado experience is going terribly :( Cheers, Steve

please help! Tried a new dizzy cap and rotor arm to no affect. :(

Right, i was driving down the A2 today for say 10 minutes, car driving lovely. Then as i came off the slip road and stopped i noticed the car was running very lumpy. As i pulled away it was really chugging, under-powered and backfiring. Now ive had a similar problem on polos in the past, basically they werent firing properly on one cylinder. A new set of plugs and leads normally solves it. Being the weekend VW parts dept. aren't open so any parts buying will have to wait until monday. But i thought id get some opinions on what it could be. The leads look brand new and ive been told they were bought very recently. The car has run fine for a week or two, prior to that it cut out when reversing out of my drive and wouldn't start. After the breakdown guy gave it some juice on the accelerator pedal (i didnt want to over do it when it cut out incase i flooded the engine), it tried to start and eventually did. I thought the problem had resolved itself, maybe the battery for example. But today's events have proved otherwise. To me it seems maybe the ignition side of things. Im positive i heard the fuel pump whirring as normal. Im going to change the dizzy cap and rotor arm monday as they seem a bit pitted and the contacts aren't great. But is it worth me looking at anything else in the meantime?? Any help greatly appreciated, Steve

thanks for all the positive replies. Been a member of this forum for years, staring very enviously at all your' stunning Rado's. So glad to finally own one. Such a pleasure to drive. Wouldn't mind some lovely dished wheels though as ive come from driving a polo G40 on really dished 13x8s, so i do miss the euro look. Love the colour too, its a favourite of mine and looks so impressive when just washed. Really looking forward to better weather and the chance to crack out the Zymol!! Forgot i had this pic too...so menacing!!

its got 117K on the clock but you really wouldn't know. I paid £2K which i feel was reasonable considering the wheels, suspension, miltek exhaust and the condition etc.

Hey all, been on this forum for a number of years now. Mainly in awe at what i see as possibly the nicest vw on the road today! Having had a ride in Andi's VR6 a few years ago only made my love for the corrado grow even more. After selling my Polo G40 converted GT and my GT runaround i felt it was time to move up in the world. The expense that was Christmas delayed my search somewhat, however after many months of looking for the right car, and even having to let some beauties go (Andy's 2.0 :( ), i managed to convince my mate to drive me from Canterbury, Kent to Barnsley, near Manchester! 500 odd mile round trip!! The trip proved more than worthy when i found myself the new owner of a 1.8 16v in one of my favourite vw colours (happened to be the same colour as my GT/G40). The guy had owned it for 9 years and its immaculate inside and out. Advertised on autotrader for less than 4 hours and i snapped it up immediately last saturday. She drives beautifully, and im looking forward to saving for a few bits such as proper red or tinted rears and some lovely Kersher's maybe. At present im chuffed to bits so im in no rush! These are crappy phone photos but hopefully i can get some with a mates digi camera asap. Thanks for reading my rambling! Steve. My bro's mk2 and his mk1 he rescued from a field!!

right ok, despite the guy slating his corrado in a post below, im still up for getting one. Its got to be a 16v really, if it goes as well as my bro's golf! How much would i need to spend to get a decent example? Steve -

ok matey, very grateful for that. Ive been browsing this forum for over 2 years, i met a guy called Andy with a purple VR6 ages ago, he came up to my place and took me out for a spin...think he's admin or someone important! Anyhow, i knew there and then that the people on here seemed great. On that note il ask anyone out there that sees an honest valver to let me know....im on the look out!!....think i know what has to be done... Steve -

also was wondering if there was anyone from the forum near croydon, south london, or canterbury, kent (the 2 places im most likely to be found!) that could come to look at a few rado's if i find any. Someone with a bit more knowledge than me! Id happily buy a beer and lunch for anyone willing to lend their expertise. Cheers, Steve -

cheers for the replies. Im not definitely decided getting a corrado is the right thing to do, id honestly say i don't know alot about them, other than common faults involve electrics (spoilers, sunroof etc) and things like door handles. Id only be after a valver really, so vr6 and g60 problems need not apply. Other than one being slightly slower than the other, are there any advantages of getting a 2.0 8v, is that going to be more reliable/easier to fix being single cam etc?? Il keep my eye open, im not desperate to do it all now, research is my first priority. But spotting an honest valver, is this an easy thing to do?? -
beautiful corrado agreed. New owner perhaps could have worded that better and announced it on the right forum lol! But im 20 and despite not ever owning a Corrado, ive had Polo GTs, G40s, performance car nonetheless. As the guy above has said, i live for cars alot of the time. My passion in life apart from my music is my cars. I slave my ass off to pay insurance and stuff. At 20 its silly money, but hard work and paying silly prices for a bit pays off when i finally get no claims. I will own a corrado and it will be probably before im 21. But i have average income parents who disapprove of anything car related. The give me nothing towards cars. I don't drink excessively, i dont buy clothes and stuff alot, my money goes on 3 things usually....cars, music, and petrol. Not the life for many, but working day in day out, and driving home in a nice car does it for me....

Hey all, hope this section is ok for this thread! Been looking at getting a rado for so long now, ended up G40'ing my polo GT last time i had this debate. It was £200 cheaper on insurance to have a 150bhp supercharged GTG40 conversion than to insure a 1.8 16v rado. So obviously i did the harder option and ended up spending around £2K on doing a G40 engine conversion myself! Anyhow, that car had to go as it was costing me lots, and was full of problems (oil leaks, ecu map sensor issues, etc etc). Id spent all my money doing the conversion i couldn't enjoy the car. After much deliberating, and even hours from going to view a very honest sounding 16v, i decided to get another Polo GT based upon the fact that i knew alot about the cars, engine wise, servicing, maintaining, and the fact that my bro has a golf gti mk2 16v and he has had no end of engine and running problems. I paniced and despite desperately craving a rado i didn't get one. I bought a GT and 15 miles down the road from buying it (just so happened this was 350 miles from my house!), the car overheats badly...i end up taking the thermostat out and limping it home (8 hour drive in total!!)... The next day i spend over £150 in parts, basically out of peace of mind i changed the headgasket and a huge list of parts. Car runs fine, think it was air in the coolant system that caused it. Anyhow, im thinking of selling up now. The wheel bearings went, then the windscreen cracked.... The main point im trying to get to, is...a Rado so much more to run (i know tax and petrol maybe a bit more) but in general would i be totally silly to consider one?? Do problems like i described with my GT occur, and if so would i be totally screwed??!! ...not wanting to do a headgasket on a twin cam engine of much more complexity! I feel gutted as i chose the GT as a cheaper sensible option, and could have got a corrado 16v and enjoyed it. But then again im less likely to be able to fix it myself than with the polo. Trying to do my research so this time around i dont get lumbered with a rubbish car, if i decide to get a corrado what issues can i expect, will it cause me more worries and woes everytime i drive it??? Cheers, sorry for the rambling post, just last time i made a ball-out decsion to convert my last GT to G40 power it cost me big time, will buying a rado do the same?!!! Steve
