Evening guys, so, I've now changer the oil heat exchanger. Took the old one out and tried the pressure test, but I'm not 100% happy this was the cause, I could only get a few bubbles under water and I'm not sure if this was just the trapped air. So anyway, I changed it, dropped the oil (all looked good with no signs of water) put a cheap oil back in to flush through for a few days, (also thought if the problems not solved I've not wasted good oil) put a flush cleaner through coolant, emptied and refilled. Took for run and so far so good.....but I'll keep an eye on the water over the next few days. Your prayers that it's not HG will be much appreciated.

Ok forget that it appears to be a broken part off a old cap. Few. Will take exchanger off tomorrow and pressurize it under water as suggested on here somewhere. Let's hops

No it's a VR6. I can seem to add a pic, but I just found something in the old tank. What looks like a broken plastic ring approx 35mm

Yes pattern part, lesson learnt! But glad I didn't spend out on a genuine part now as the new one has oil in it! Head gasket is always at the back of my mind, but hoping, wishing, wanting it to be the heat exchanger. Now mayo on oil cap or dip stick and no loss of performance (other than it ran lumpy the other day on start up out of the blue, but not happened again) so, new heat exchanger first, and alot of praying!

Yeah think your right, but a wire between the connectors and lights out! Annoying as the tank worked at first. Maybe it is the oil in the coolant coating the pins for the sensor in the tank and preventing the water making contact. So, to address the oil, I've search on here and it seems, oil in the water suggests heat exchanger! Well, first port of call at least, am I right? Thanks for the help guys,

Morning all. My annoying coolant light won't stop flashing. So, I changed the expansion tank Thursday eve, light went out, great, simple fix. Saturday light came on, topped up thinking it was a air lock releasing, light went out. Great. Went for a hour drive to see friends, all fine. Vet in the car to come home, coolant light flashing, but levels all good!? Checked connectors, all good, but this morning noticed oil in coolant (hoping it's just the heat exchanger) but why would my light still be flashing? New tank worked at first so wouldn't think it's that, any ideas? Could.....it be the oil in the coolant now stopping the sensor working? Thanks guys.

OK so..... found the solder joint on the bulb had gone, re soldered this and now light comes on and goes off, and doesn't seem to flicker while driving. Yay! But I tend to question things so, if it was just a simple solder connection, and the light was technically switching off (although unable to tell cause bulb wasn't connected properly) the why /how was the light flickering when slightly turning left?? The only way I can think of is the unit must have still been sending a fault signal, and the dodgy connection was just coincidentally connecting at that time? But why cant I get it to do it now when the joint is good and solid!? Also.....when I pulled the light out of th dash it had 2 plugs in the back yet only the larger one connects to the circuit board with the bulb on, what's the other smaller one for? Thanks again everyone.

OK will check levels, I did have the handbrake light on when the fluid was low a while back, didn't know the abs light would indicate this also? Will get a vag com check done. But should the light come on when the ignition is turned on and go out when started? Because mine doesn't. Mot is due soon so I would like to know what "should" be happening and then I know when something is wrong. Thanks

Afternoon/ evening all. Done some searching but not really had the exact answers I'm looking for, so...96 vr6 had it for about 6 months, and love it. Just recently the abs light flicks on and off when turning left, but only sightly turns, like a slight curve in the road, full lock =nothing. Now while searching for answers I've noticed (if I'm correct) that the light should come on when starting the car and go off!? Mine has never done this, these recent flickers are the first signs I've seen since having the car, and I've not really had any need to brake hard for the abs light to flash then either (I assume it should), I first put the flickers of light down to a possible bad connection but now I'm more concerned as things don't seem to add up now. Some clarification form someone and possible first port of call for diagnosis would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
