  1. I have PM'ed and Emailed those with questions, if anyone else wants details/question answered feel free to post/PM/Email. Regards Spencer
  2. Well, in the Sportsman class, if your car is road legal (valid tax disk, MOT and Insurance) all you need is a race suit (about £120 at a guess), helmet (anywhere from £50 upwards), gloves (£20), race licence (£36 i think) join the VWDRC (£24) and then enter a race event which is usually about the £100 mark but for that you get 4 entry tickets for you and your crew/mates. If you go to events like Big Bang and Bug Jam it's CHEAPER to race than pay to get in! Plus inevitably you'll get more track time than the RWYBers at these shows. Don't let the myth of "you have to attend all meetings" put anyone off because it's just that, a MYTH. The VWDRC have lowered the price of an associate membership to £5 where you can get the club newsletter as well as attend the various VWDRC functions throughout the year, there's no better or indeed cheaper way to get introduced to Drag Racing. Spencer
  3. As some of you may know I compete in the VWDRC series in the V8 Corrado, but I was wondering how many people on here have ever considered getting involved in the Sportsman class with their road going versions? The VWDRC has loads of watercooled cars in it's classes but no Corrado's, just wondering why? Any replies or questions about racing greatfully recieved. Thanks Spencer Super Pro ET #1 Quantum Leap VW Corrado 8.60 @ 156mph
  4. Nice to see someone likes it :) Just to quash all rumours it's a completely standard Corrado bodyshell with the arches stretched forwards 2 inches to get the wheels in. Other than that the only replacement part is the bonnet as I needed to get an airscoop on it. Car has run 8.60 @ 156mph and at the end of September we became National Champions beating all of the "beadstead" traditional "dragster" looking dragsters. The first car with doors to do so in 4 years. Spencer
  5. Just an update...we got rid of the 468ci engine (7669cc) and put a 555ci (9100cc) in and have now run a 8.60 @ 156mph Spencer p.s. It's not a funny car, all original body, except the bonnet (so I could add the air scoop)
  6. Hey, Thanks for the compliments, number one qualifier at Bug Jam before the rain came and spoiled it all, at Avon Park on August Bank Holiday, the European Finals at Santa Pod and the the National Finals at the beginning of October. Spencer :)
  7. The engine is a 468ci (7669cc) Big Block Chevrolet that is normally aspirated and runs on Methanol. The door handles are from a Ford Focus, the doors I bought came without handles and they were like rocking horse poo to track any down, I think these are better anyway! The reason you can't see me is that we have converted the car to left hand drive to counter-balance the torque when I leave the start line. The best time so far is a 9.21 @ 146mph, although we are still in the very early development stages and I have been more focused on consistency rather than outright speed, it seems to have payed off with a championship in my first year and 5 wins out of 6 meetings. The tyres don't rub but only because the whole of the tinwork interior has been specially made. The arches were stretched forward about 4 inches to make the wheels fit. Doing this and mving the rear wheels forward has shortened the car to a 94" wheelbase. Spencer :)
  8. pic thumbnailed-vr6storm Spencer 2004 VWDRC Alt/Eng CHAMPION :D
  9. Well it uses about a gallon to one and a half gallons on a warm up, run and drive back to the pits which is about a mile or so. Spencer :)
  10. Hi, Glad you like the car, although we are not running quite as quick as that (9.2 secs is out best) however not only did we win the VW Alt/Eng class on the day but also the 2004 championship too. We also did a rare double by winning the Super Gas (9.90) class as well. Made up for what was a tough weekend as my opponent in round one crashed at over 130mph  He was OK, but the car was a total write off. Spencer
  11. Yeah, I was, changing from 1st to 2nd I was all over the place, had to get out of it, straighten it up and put the boot back in, still ran a 9.7  Short shifted 2nd pass and it was moving around although it wasn't getting any worse, 9.35 on a RWYB track ain't bad I think  Met quite a few of the CCGB people too :) Spencer
  12. Actually a "mouse" motor is a small block chevrolet (usually under 400ci) and a "rat" motor is a big block chevrolet (usually 427ci and bigger) Mine is a 468ci (454 block with overbore) which equates to 7669cc Hope you lot are all coming to the GTi Festival. Last weekend saw round four of the championship, I qualified number one for the fourth time this year with a 9.66 on a 9.65 dial in and was runner-up in the eliminations. The points is looking very favourable for us at the minute so fingers crossed. Spencer
  13. Yeah, something like that, always liked them, a mate of mine did a design of what one would look like if someone did it, kinda made my mind up. Roll on this weekend and round 4 :D Spencer
  14. Before anyone says, I had to give him a head start ;) Spencer
  15. Last weekend at the Power Nationals event we managed to get the number one qualifying sport and third win of the season (out of three rounds!) in the VWDRC's Alt/Eng category. The next meeting for us is the SPRC Summer Nationals on 26/27th June at Santa Pod. Spencer :)
  16. I have spent about 35k on mine, and yes it was all worth it :) Spencer
  17. John, Spoke to the promoter of GTi Festival (whom I know well) about a good space for a display etc and he is all up for it. Will mail with more details. Spencer
  18. 9.21 @ 146mph, not near potential yet though. I have done about 20 passes in it so far. Spencer
  19. Yes thats right, the VWDRC use bracket racing, which sometimes means I have to wait 8 seconds to chase Camper vans  Spencer
  20. Thanks!! I will be at GTi Festival, I spoke to John Munyard of the CCGB yesterday about going. I will be racing in the VWDRC at Bug Jam (where I am leading the points) I was suprised that people thought the VWDRC was aircooled only too. We need to recify that soon as a 'rocco has won the Sportsman class for the last two years  Spencer
  21. Finally got around to join up at the weekend, heard about this place as someone from here was behing me in the queue. Did anyone get any pics of my car this weekend, it is the Corrado dragster that was parked in one of the hangers by the Big Boys Toys stand. Spencer :)
