Cheers James. Good tip. Hopefully it will be a cheap fix !
-
Thanks Si, much appreciated. I will check them out and give them a call.
-
Thanks for responding. Good info to know regarding the ECU's and I will make sure they have checked the relays too. As you say its best to replace rthe cheaper parts first !
-
Thanks. Yes I did think it could be the immobiliser first off but when my immobiliser is on you can't crank the engine over and the engine can currently be cranked over. The garage reckon they have looked into this but you never know. Agree reckon I should stick a new battery on there too.
-
Great. I will get on to the garage with this info.
-
Thanks for replying. Yes seems quite an obvious one so I will make sure the garage have looked at that.
-
Thanks for replying. No the RPM's aren't displaying on the tacho when cranking. Does this rule out any particular issue ?

Hi All, The other morning my VR6 started first time, as it always does but then 3 minutes later just died. The car is now at a VW Specialists where they say there is no fuel coming through or spark. They have gone through the car and state that they believe the ECU is faulty. There is power at the ECU but other than that it is blank and they are unable to interrogate it or diagnose the fault. They sent the ECU off for testing but the company they sent it to said they were unable to test it, therefore they are trying to find another company that can. I am no expert but it would appear that if the ECU is found faulty and can eventually be repaired then happy days. More other options seem to be to buy a second hand tested ECU from a reliable company and have the garage fit that in the car. One question on the above is when you install a new replacement ECU for the first time in the car will it require special programming to get it up and running correctly ? Are there any other common faults associated with the above problems I should get the garage to look into ? If the ECU comes back fine then an Auto Electrician is going to have to go over the car. Just to note after the car had conked out and been cranked over a few times the battery went flat and a local mechanic tried to jump start it but with no success. I am aware that jump starting these cars can cause problems but in this instance it appears the fault was already there. If anybody has had similar problems before or can offer any advice around the ECU detail then that would be much appreciated. My ECU is the Bosch type - 021 0906 258 AG. Thanks in advance.

Thanks a lot. Great tip on the sliding bracket, It is things like this that I just wouldn't have know about. Good to know the glass hasn't changed over the years too. I get where you're coming from on the glass and it isn't such a concern but I have seen cars in auctions and at specialist dealers where they have quoted all original glass in their descriptions and I am trying to keep this car as original as possible. Currently all the glass has the same month / year of manufacturer on it. Most people would probably never check it so it is not such a big deal.
-
Good tip. Cheers for that.
-
That’s fantastic. All sounds straightforward enough. Thanks a lot for the helpful advice Sean. One quick question, are all the drivers window glasses the same dimensions regardless of year of manufacturer ?
-
Hi All, My drivers window glass has a scrape down the middle of it and I am looking at removing it and getting a professional to polish it out as I want to keep the car as original as possible as it is very low mileage and only had one previous owner. There is a company locally that reckons they can do it which would save me trying to find an identical year / month manufactured glass to fit as a replacement. I am not a mechanic and I would usually get my Dad to help with this as he was a mechanic all his life but he is over 70 and currently in isolation. Is removing and replacing the glass a relatively straightforward job ? From my experience it probably isn't as car manufacturers don't tend to design items like this to be easy to change ! Any tips would be much appreciated. I have also attached a photo of the window code just in case someone happens to have an offside drivers door glass in decent condition for a 94 VR6 with glass manufacturer date - **** 3 which I assume means manufactured in April 1993 ? Thanks

Last time I looked the bidding was up to £6250 plus the 6% fee but there were a good couple of hours to go. Not sure where it ended but seems it did not reach its reserve.

Interesting. I have never heard of this site before. Some of the format is a bit like bring a trailer.com in the US but on a much smaller scale. Nice looking car and just round the corner from me. I Like a Corrado in Satin Silver. Reckon any potential buyer would be taking on any risk just like in a private sale. If I didn’t already have one I would bid myself !

If I was the owner of that storm I would take it for an MOT for starters ! (shows expired on gov website) Then get it detailed and put some actual decent photos up of the car. If it is a decent one with good service history it could be a good buy for someone. Although it does look like it has spent a large amount of time off the road since 2010 but guess that comes with having a micro mileage car ! Credit to the owner and JMR as that Campaign looks amazing !

Congratulations on winning the auction. Looks like you got it at a great price too. It can be a good time of year to be buying a car if you’re able to get out there. They are great cars. I bought mine last November and I am slowly getting it back to its best.
-
Totally agree with all of the above. The fact it only had a partial history won't have helped as without the service book stamped and/or all the old MOT's you can't really prove the low mileage is genuine. The price of that G60 Golf is unreal !
-
Agreed the interior is looking a bit shabby and 8 years in storage is never a good thing. Having read the description properly it states only partial history so the mileage couldn't be verified as genuine either.

Some of those cars at the NEC went for top money. The Corrado at auction in the link below looks interesting. If I didn't have one already I may of been tempted to attend the auction. It will no doubt need some further money spending on it to bring it back to its best but don't they all ! https://www.classiccarauctions.co.uk/vw-corrado-storm-vr6

Below is a link to Charterhouse auctions where it states that car went under the hammer for £23545 back in July. Classic Car Weekly also did an article on it back in August. https://www.charterhouse-auction.com/a-month-of-successes The car in the states went for $19250 last night. A strong price considering it was not all original, had some below par bodyshop repair work and factoring in the time of year of the sale. bringatrailer.com is a great site and its good fun watching the bidding wars on your favourite motors.

Nice colour / leather combo. There seems to be strong demand for clean, low mileage cars over in the States right now. Hagerty classic cars have the Corrado in their top ten bull list cars for appreciation next next year too. Wouldn't be surprised if this car went for over $20k. A similar one went for $22k a couple of months back. Still not as much as the UK car that went for over 23k at auction in the summer though. That must have been an absolute minter !
-
I also own a low mileage, one previous owner VR6, so I will be watching on with interest too. Be great to see it go for decent money, but I think they are being a bit ambitious with their guide price ! It would be nice to say you have the last one registered in the UK, but it doesn't actually mean much as it is exactly the same car.

Back in Corrado ownership after a 23 year break !

Cheers Rob.I will try and get some decent snaps when I get it back from the garage. She is up in the air at the minute having new rear suspension bushes installed ( a right pig of a job as you all know ! ) -

Cheers Shaun. Not sure I will catch you though if you're on number four ! My wife and daughter hate it, although it does help my wife's insomnia when i talk about it ! -
