  1. i would also ask questions if the paint code sticker wasn't still in the boot.....possible rear-ender
  2. look in the back of clasic car mags :silly: ....seriously try:- http://WWW.FIREBOND.CO.UK http://www.sureterm.co.uk http://www.ClassicCarDirect.co.uk http://www.lancaster-ins.co.uk http://www.graham-sykes.co.uk though you might be talking to them rather than getting an on-line quote hth....let me know how you get on
  3. hi mate, i'm afraid if you're thinking of this g-60 being the same colour as my storm, then you will be dissapointed  ,here is a list of green colour codes for corrados Dark Green Metallic LD6U 90 Green Pearl Effect LC6V 90 - 93 Khaki Pearl Effect LC6Z 92 - 93 Classic Green Pearl Effect LC6U 93 & 95 Dragon Green Pearl Effect LC6P 94 as you can see it will either be the dark green metallic or the green pearl effect....a small chance of it being the khaki pearl effect(mega-rare btw  ) anyway the way to check is,there should be a "mailshot" size sticker on the inside of the rear panel with the relative colour code,or an orange-red smallish sticker on the inside of the o/s/f wing anyway i would check that the g-lader(supercharger) has been overhauled recently, the timing belt has been changed, all the electrics work, the spoiler rises and lowers at the correct speed(45+mph and 12- mph),sunroof opens and closes without twisting,abs-if fitted, the light goes out within seconds of starting, mfa works, that the tyres are wearing evenly, that the rear calipers aren't sticking and that the door handles aren't too stiff£45 ea +fitting etc best  to take a mechanic with you or better still get it checked over by a vw-specialist(who should know the problems a corrado can throw up) and of course get its finance/insurance history checked hth and let us know how you get on
  4. why thank you very much birthday boy! :D anyway here's a couple of pics that show how classic green(as its a pearlescent paint) looks in sunshine and when its overcast..............i actually prefer the hue it takes on when its overcast, both pictures were taken on the same day in case anyones wondering
  5. you could always try classic car insurance........providing the car is over 10 years-old and has an owners-club for it....which is yes and yes...though it only gives you limited miles
  6. my rear discs used to always have a bit of a wee bit of a stickiness to them first thing in the morning....more so on a cold and/or wet morning, but since i had my rear discs changed and the handbrake adjusted and everything that needed greased done i haven't had any sort of stickiness since
  7. i was waiting for you to appear with your quattro-mod paul!!..... i can vouch for how fast paul's motor goes too.......thats the last time i try racing a white g-60  he's taken more than his fair share of vr6 scalps btw!!
  8. bbs rj's are the ones nearest in design to the standard g-60 alloy........doubtful you'll get them in anything bigger than 15inch to fit a corrado though as they are quite an old design...back when 17's were rare....i'm getting this info from a vw-motoring mag from 13 years ago with a bbs article btw other designs from bbs you could go for are rm's(spilt rims),rz's(3-pce)or rg's though these are all oldish(though still classy)these are all similar in style and looks to the original equipment, you could also go for rc's,rx's,rxII's or lm's(i think these will be pretty dear btw)from the more up-to-date range....its all down to your personnal tastes and wallet of course
  9. if the better half has a bit of a controling interest on the finances...like most of'em........then i would advise budgeting at least £1k on repairs and maintanence in the first year alone  even with my 1-owner storm(bought at 38k miles and fvwsh in aug2001)i've spent at least £1.5k on repairs, maintanence and wee add-ons over 14k miles.....and i also bought it from a garage so it had a warranty on it which was used once(though it did cover the cost of buying the warranty in the first place) also considering that the storm's only real differance between it and a leathered up vr6 is 2 badges,c/c grille and bbs solitudes...most insurance companies rate it 1 group higher than the group 18 rating the non-storm vr6 attracts like i've said before i just luv my storm but i'm sure i would get the same thrill and enjoyment from a non-storm vr6........just don't want u to be dissapointed by finding out that the storm isn't much of a big differance from the vr6 that the premium you pay for one makes it out to be
  10. if you want to get a corrado as an investment better get a "campaign" one.....only 6 made and very very lush 8)....i luv the red leather interior and red dash :D to be honest....speaking from experience...me being a storm owner etc....i would look for the best condition and spec vr6 that you can find.....i've seen a lot of non-storm vr6's having a lot better equipment than mine for quite a bit less than what i paid for mine if you can get a vr6 with recarro leather,h/light washers and a/c(providing it works)and of course in a nice dark metallic that in my opinion would be a better car to get than most storms.....though to be honest i wouldn't part with mine at all also the other thing about storms is that there is no recognition of it being a storm in the logbook the only ways that you can be sure that your looking at a genuine storm(the badges were easy to get a few years back) is if its a mystic blue one(unique to the storm-check the paint-code in the boot)as the classic green ones were a "normal" colour choice too or if you get chris gaskell(from the vwccgb) to confirm the chassis number matches what he has on-record for being a storm, also it shouldn't be pre-april1995 registered hth

    MPG ?

i managed an average 32 mpg at a steady 80ish mph all the way to inters last year.....approx 510 miles 1-way
  12. jim.....you wont go far wrong with either the magnex or miltek systems..... i'm pretty sure halfords do the magnex exhaust.....supplied and fitted etc for roughly the £350 mark,i had star-performance fit my miltek in september and they charged me £340 all in,so they both should be roughly the same price....though i think if you go the halfords route they do low interest finance on bits over £250?????(though i could be wrong :? ) anyway glad :D that your keeping her as she looks a beauty from all your pics 8)
  13. cheers jim but if you sell your corrado  you'll be needing them more than me  8vg60 couldn't have put it better though
  14. cheers jim....you'll have me in tears soon
  15. jim mate....andi's right you'll only regret selling it,up until i bought my corrado i always regretted selling my ur-quattro (in 1996)even though it had more than its fair share of stone-chips at the front,a couple of wee rust scabs, knackered rear caliper and 108k miles plus it also cost a fortune to run(18mpg and a 20 gal tank)but god did i not actually cry tears  when i sold it my advice is prioritise whats needing doing and whats just cosmetic....the wee scrape on the bumper can be left til your in the money....its not exactly going to rust is it remember that most of the costly things that you have done to it won't be needing done again for a fair while as for the electrics you can live without elec/mirrors,and also the heater control could just be the contacts? in the actual rotary controls needing cleaned up anyway if you still decide that the car must go then £3-£4k would seem reasonable enough....i certainly wouldn't let it go for anything less than the £3k(which is rock-bottom imo)

    corrado vr6

hi stu, right as you've never been near one before,i would strongly advise that you either take someone with you who has,or arrange a pre-purchase inspection report preferably from a vw-specialist or a vw-dealer....they should charge you quite a bit less than what an aa/rac report would and at least they will know what to look for as for things to look out for(in no order btw) 1)make sure that the oil level is at/near the max and is relatively clean.......much lower points to careless ownership 2)it might sound a tiny bit tappetty(could be down to too thin an oil being used) and also have a very slight uneven idle this is normal, though through the rev-range it should be silky smooth and refined 3)make sure the spoiler rises at either 40/45mph(early cars) or 56mph(later cars)and that it can also be raised manually 4)make sure all the electrics work too 5)check that there is no oil mixing with the water in the expansion tank....if it is it could be either the oil/water heat exchanger(£40ish part + fitting)or worse the h/gasket(£200++) also check the oil-filler cap...though don't automatically think that if there is a slight mayo on it that the h/gasket's failed as it could just as easily be condensation 6)all vr6's have abs fitted.....make sure that the abs light goes off within seconds of starting the car...if there is no abs light fitted or it doesn't go off then this points to either an expensive fault or that the abs has been removed 7)make sure the s/roof opens and closes without twisting as this can be quite expensive to fix 8)make sure that the tyres are wearing evenly if not this points to the steering geometry being out and could also be an expensive suspension problem 9)door handles are prone to breaking and can be expensive to fix....one of the signs is a stiff handle when opening the door thats all from the top of my head but the other reason behind getting a vw-dealer or specialist to inspect it is so that they can also check the dtc's(aka fault codes) with the vag-com software............as these can be expensive to fix and can cause all sorts of future problems hth
  17. i think all 2.0 16v's are safe enough to use 95-ron u/l its only all the 1.8 16v's that really/ideally need super u/l or optimax....i'm pretty sure thats the main reason why vw dropped the 1.8 16v and replaced it with the cat-equipped eco-friendly 2.0 16v btw some 1.8 16v's actually work alright with 95-ron and others will pink like theres no tomorrow
  18. longshot part deux:-do u know if your Corrado has had the heater matrix recall fix???if it hasn't then vw have to fix regardless of whether it still has or hasn't vwsh........check out message/post no 40219 on the yahoo e-group.....i'm right in assuming that its a 1.8 16v that you have????as its only pre-92 models that are covered.....if it has had the recall fix done then vw's records will show that they have done it,there is a small possibility that your one was missed your local vw-dealer should be able to say if it was done or not also do a search on the yahoo e-group for "heater matrix" and you should find more info...though please bear in mind it can take a while as it searches through roughly 900 messages every hit and just carry-on hitting the next button even though some will come up with "no messages"as that just means that there was no posts/messages with heater matrix in them over the 900 or so messages it searched worth a try and hth
  19. this might be a long-shot and i'm not sure if its the correct way to do it,but when you drained the water out did you have your heat control setting on hot?and also when you refilled it,did you keep the heat setting on hot as well? hth
  20. i wouldn't worry too much about stonechips and wee scratches jim that just shows its a daily driver and it looks like its a honest enough motor, most performance coupes always seem to need the front resprayed every 5-6 years especially if its a daily driver, if you had all the paintwork done you would be scared to drive it every day, though i'm planning a full respray for mine in the next couple of years....hopefully by then it will be my weekend/summer/show car
  21. yeah though i would still test some out first to be on the safe side its should also be labelled as g-11+..........as some dealers might still have old stocks of normal g-11 which will turn to jelly if mixed with others
  22. thanks for all the nice comments guys :D ....she's a daily driver out in all weathers i'm afraid...but i wash her every 2-3 days sometimes even daily :x up close though she needs a bit of fettling..... wheels are a bit scabby, stonechips, rippled door skin and a door knock, but i'm planning for a full re-spray in the next couple of years and hopefully a nice set of 16 inch bbs rx's and lowered suspension and and and and...the list goes on
  23. here is some pics of my storm
