OK so it worked for a bit, but now it won't turn over at all. If I run a cable from the battery to the solinoid sometimes it will click, sometimes not but the starter motor won't turn over at all. If it is the cold would it do any harm to dump a kettle load of boiling water over the solinoid and starter motor?

My g60 has always been good at starting - exept for the dodgy ignition switch. But I parked it up last night and this morning the starter motor only just turns and lets out an awfull shreeking noise like a cat in a gearbox. Could it be anything to do with the cold or is it more serious? Please help because my missus' mk2 GTI is refusing to start aswell and I need to get to town.

Before I get shouted at by the mods, I have done a search and I know theres loads about this on the form, but after wading through pages and pages of search results I just can't find what I want. Can someone give me a diagram of, or sell me at a reasonable price, an uprated loom for dipped AND mainbeam. I've put up with my crappy lights too long, if I'm following another car I find it really difficult to tell whether I'm on dipped beam or just sidelights (dodgy headlight switch doesn't help either). ta

Hi, my missus' mk2 golf gti handles have got beyond a joke and I need to change them, I just want to know how easy it is to change the lock barrels over when I change the handles, or am I better off getting handles complete with locks?

I've just had a look at the gear lever and the problem is that it has dropped slightly - enough to avoid the bit of plastic that normally stops it moving all the way across to the left. Anyone know why its dropped? I'll have a look under the car in the morning and see what I can see .

Hi, my missis has just bought a '89 Golf GTI 8v - her first VW. Anyway the gear stick doesn't need to be pushed down to select reverse - it just moves all the way over to the left which makes it a bugger to find first. Can anyone tell me what the problem is and if its an easy fix? Hope non raddo questions are OK but if not I appologise and heres a more relevent one. Both door handles on my G60 have broken (If you pull them they feel loose and dont do anything). Its getting a bit embaressing lifting my 4 year old son over the parcel shelf and back seats to open the door for me. I seem to remember reading something on this forum about someone who makes a repair kit - does anyone know who he is and how much it'll cost me. Cheers :)

The bearings on my waterpump pully on my 91 G60 are shagged, need to fix it quick as a bloke is viewing the car on Friday. What do I need to do? I presume it involves repalcing the whole pump, if so can anyone walk me through it? ( I did search the forum archives but cant find a "how to" anywhere). Ta Chris

Excuse my mechanical ignorance but is it possiable (and viable) to add ABS to my 91 G60? I've just rear ended a metro after locking up and want to try and prevent this happening again. Incidentally it put a massive crease in the back of the metro's shell and killed the bumper, but not a trace of damage to the rado, not a trace!

I need to replace the bonnet on my 91 G60 and most of the ones I've found so far are off the later facelifted cars. I'd quite like to fit one of these as the buldge looks more aggresive so I'd just like to know if it will fit or if I'd need to change anything else.
