  1. :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help:

Go on, give me the benifit of their vast Rado knowledge....

  2. I have a rather sorry looking 2.0L 16V silver C,

But I love the car and it is a long term project to get it back to better shape. There is some rust along the front of the bonnet, the offside wing (around the light) and the back panel.

The car has been painted in the past, and the rust has obviously set in. If I get it done again it will only be a matter of time before it comes back.

So getting to the point... The rear panel - the one the badges are on can it be replaced, or is it a mojor welding job? And any tips on how to take of the wing and bonnet also appreciated!

  3. Guys,

Wonder if anybody has come across this problem, I have had a look through the other threads, but cannot find anything.

When I brake, my headlights come onto dipped beam.

I am guessing it might be a dodgy earth point or something.

    Any suggestions?

  4. Why did I know that this was not going to be as simple as it should be! :|

how do you do the whole cable, is it easy or is it a pain in the arse and worth taking to let a garage do it? Presumably you have to feed it all the way back to the pedel? :(

  5. Guys,

How taught should the throttle cable be?

I noticed last time I was filling up the water resevoir, that the throttle cable is quite slack , there is about a cm of travel it you pull it between where it comes out of the cover and the cam.

Is this OK, and if not how do you tighten it? I guess it just means I will not get a top speed, as I will run out of cable to pull!

I presume you slacken off the bolt at the end, and pull a bit more through, but the bolt has a yellow paint over it. Which is what made me think to ask. It is as if it has be set and marked very specifically.

  6. I seem to have opened a BIG can of worms with this one.

I also (seanoVR) had no idea there was a boy racer hate thing. Glad I asked first......

I was going to buy some new bulbs but didn't in the end because it meant having to buy sides and mains, so that they match and even then the fogs are the wrong colour. :(

So I think I will leave well alone. If it a'nt broke......

  7. Does anybody have the wiring diagrams for the lights.

I was wondering if it is possible to take out the connection that means you have both front and rear fogs on - so that you can use the front ones more a 'driving' lights, as you see on more modern cars. 8)

  8. Ahh,

I hadn't realised that I need to have an alarmed central locking...... I don't.

Does that mean that I need to fork out for the genuine VW part from a stealership :?:

Help, why are these fixes never quite as simple as they first appear

(hidden screws behind spaeker grilles :!: )

  10. When you try and open the passenger door, the handle is very slack and nothing happens. :(

You can still open the door from the inside. But this is a pain in the butt - especially when trying to get my 2 year old daughter into/out of the car!

I was presuming having read the other posts that it was the pin that was bent, and needed to replace the mech/handle with the passat rear ones.

  11. I have had a look around the site, and tried doing a search, but couldn't find an instruction as to how to remove the door panels.

    Where are the screws :?:

    My door mech has gone.

  12. Henny,

Also noticed your gaiter. I machined a small spacer out of aluminium and polished it up till it looked like a chrome part.

It is quite nice becaue I didn't want a chrome gear knob - becasue it would look a bit to 'bling' for my taste, but a small ring of it is subtle enough and has a suitable magpie effect.

I'll see if I can get a photo of it to attach.

  13. I notice in some of the photos that people have changed the plastic sill strips for metal ones, with 16V etc etched in.

Do you just peel the plastic ones off, or put the metal ones over the top?

And if you have to peel it, is it easy or do you need to use a heat gun?

  14. Guys,

I would like a Momo Club 4, but at £180ish I think there are other more important things to sort first - like rust!!! C needs a respray/touch up.

However I was wondering if any of you who have changed your steering wheels already would like to part with the old one? Mine in getting a but shiny - due to miles done!

  15. Guys,

Got the parts next day from my local stealership, made the mod (my first mod! )

    It is dead easy.

I can confirm that the part numbers shown here are correct, and the modification is well worth doing. At first I thought £53 was a bit steep, but it makes such a difference, especially when you are driving in the dark and you have that dazzling effect form oncoming headlights.

This is a must do modification for any C.

  16. My accelorator pedal squeaks for the first 5-10 degrees of movement :( , I guess the spring that returns it needs a bit of oil.

Anybody else had this problem, and where do you put the oil? do you strip back the interior, or can you get to it form the engine bay?
