  1. how much should the relays cost, my local stealer wants £16 for the ecu relay and £26 for the fuel relay. does that sound right? i may try a scrappy on the way up there. lol..
  2. hi, i wonder if anyone can help me out. my 1995 vr6 has started to have serious starting problems. ive tried the search function but cant find the exact symptoms. the engine turns over, but then the revs drop straight back down and it dies. if i give it some gas the revs pick up to 3-4000 then dies again. it starts eventually after about 15 attempts (embarasing in a busy petrol station!) it runs mostly fine once its going, maybe very slightly lumpy at low revs. it did have a minor starting problem and slight lumpness at junctions when i bought it a couple of months ago, so i fitted a new ISV myself and it seemed to fix it for about a week. however now the start up problem is much worse. from what ive read i think it may be the MAF sensor. ive also read to check the fuel pump relay, i dont know much about either of these parts so ill have to read up on them and check them out at the weekend before i give up and take it to my local indiependent. is there anything else it could be? thanks. sam.
  3. hi, just looking for some wheel lock nuts for my new bbs rx. ive had mcguard before and the lockpattern/mechanism snapped, so im not keen to go back to them. any others worth looking for? i may try bbs ones, or gorilla ones off ebay seem ok. 14x1.5 is right yeah? thanks :)
  4. Hi, I have bought some Bbs rx 17 x 7.5 which I think are from a TT. the wheels were previously on a mk3 golf, and the bolt holes look like they are the rounded type. Does anyone else have these wheels? Can I use standard vr6 bolts? Or do I need new conical type bolts?? I've looked on line but have seen mixed information. Thanks! :) sam.
  5. ahhh just found some pics of the cat heat shield, and i dont think i have one. its probably a hook that the shield mounts too.. ill prob just cut it off as i would nt like it to proper catch on a speed bump of something, better to have a smooth cat. (insert your own jokes :norty:
  6. ooo i didnt realise it has a heat shield! it could well be that.. ill have a good butchers at the weekend and take it off if it is! nish one bruva! lol.
  7. hey, stange question but has anyone noticed the small hook/bracket on the underside of the cat coverter? ive got new coilovers on (still experimenting with ride height) and the cat is occasionally catching on my driveway lip and im wondering if i can just cut off the bracket to give me an extra few mm of clearance. im guessing a sports cat would be thinner and give better clearance? thanks :)
  8. thanks dude, thats confirms what they are saying, that the front bush is part of the wishbone. it wont do any warm to get a new wishbone is suppose.. eeesh.. expensive business. lol :gag:
  9. hi guys, i wonder if you can advise me please? im gettin a bit worried/annoyed. im have the work above done, the garage have just called to say that one of the wishbones front bushes has gone. fair enough. but they say the front bush only comes with a new wishbone. so i now need to get a new wishbone and front bush just on one side.. does this sound right?? surely they can fit a new bush to the wishbone? or is it common for the wishbone to get damaged around that part? also is it gonna be ok to get just one wishbone and front bush, and leave the other side with old wishbone, old front bush and a new rear bush? i cant really afford to replace them both as its all adding up fast. any advise welcomed. many thanks. sam.
  10. haha, i just called em back and told em to order the good stuff. gsf heavy metal work just sounds dodgy. i underderstand why they tried to pursude you the gsf is just as good.... cos then youll be back in a year to do it all again! lol.. :norty:
  11. hi all, i have have my car in a local gargae to get the above work done. here are thier quotes, replace and fit tie reds and steering gaters- from gsf £125 from vw oem parts £294!! replace and fit wishbone ball joint and rear bush- from gsf £145 from vw oem parts £212 now that seems a lot for the oem stuff! especially the ball joints and bushes, but they reckon 3hrs labout to press the bushes? does this seem right. im told them to go for the gsf parts and the r32 bushes. what do you think is it worh all that extra for oem parts??? its twice as much £270 vs 500 odd. hmmm
  12. perfect thanks, ill get the wishbone ball joints done then, and ill leave the rear mounts as they are unless the mechanic says anything. its a 1995 car so they shouldnt be too bad. then hopefully it will steer nice and tight and i can get on with tidying her up and get some pics on the go!
  13. hi all, one more question before i speak to my garage, just to make sure i know whats goin on. ive had a look online , but im a bit confused not having done any jobs in this area myself. when you say its best to do the ball joints also, do you mean the wishbone lower ball joints? (as apposed to the tie rod end ones) are there even upper wb ball joints.? also as im gettin coilovers fitted and replacing the front top mounts, it is nessessary/best to replace the rear top mounts too as its out? ill have to go back another day to get the rear beam bushes done in the next year, so i could do them then. or even myself. (obviously not gonna do the rear bushes myself.. eww..) a thousand thankyous.
  14. hey nerds ;), just for clarification on this, its just the wishbones rear bush that can be replaced witht the r32 part, the wishbone front bush has to use the standard corrado part? thanks. sam. (nerd in training) :dorky:
  15. yeah called them back today, works out £15 per mount and per bearing, so £60 for 2x bearings and 2x mounts. thats better. i wasnt happy gettin a bargain talking to the dealer, back to normal i feeling like im being shafted lol. :camp:
  16. haha, hmmmmm they only took £15 for 2x mounts and bearings.. thought it sounded cheap! they've probably ordered the wrong bits, ill call em tomorrow with the part numbers. thanks :) (stealers, they never fail!) ;)
  17. cheers, i just ordered the mounts and bearings, £15 sounds ok to me.
  18. hi, im going to order new oem vw top mounts and bearings for my '95 vr6. does anyone know that part numbers for these? and do they come as a kit or seperate parts? i thought better to try to get the correct part numbers first, just in case. thanks.
  19. hi, great info, thanks, just what i was looking for :) ill add ball joints to my list. vdubster, form what i gather the outer tie rod end is separate, but the inner tie rod end and the tie rod bar itsself are one piece? is this right? makes sense to replace all perishable parts at once. i think most parts are original on mine so ill get as much done as i can. ill probably get poly bushes for the wishbone, any make recommended that arnt too harsh on the ride? also read on here someone was gonna get poly top mounts, is this a bit extreme or worthwhile..? i may just get oem vw ones. also i assume its best to get oem vw parts on the the metal bits, i guess its safe to get a gfs or equivalent tie rod boots.
  20. hi, 2 weeks into my new raddo! yey, new bmc cda sounds lush!! but she is feeling sloppy as hell as my local vw indie advised on a checkup there is significant play on both inner tie rod ends. and also front wishbone bushes are cracked. im gonna have to get a gargae to fit these as they seem a bit tricky for a noob! :) i was just wondering if they can just replace the inner tie rod ends only, or are they atttached to the tie rod bar? if its just one piece (inner rod end and bar) im thinking maybe i should just get them to replace the inner and outer tie rod ends? is there anything else they may as well replace while doing the wishbone bushes for me? ive got coilovers waiting to go on, but i want to learn how to put these on myself, and ill be putting on new top mounts too. does anyone know the items ill need to supply to the garage to do the inner tie rods and wishbone bushes? i want to to get genuine vw tie rods, new boots, and poly bushes? any ideas on the full range of parts ill need?? many thanks. :notworthy:
  21. hi, what size cda are people running on their vr6's?? ive basicly just bought a second hand bmc cda, which was apparently fitted to a vr6 by the stealth company. however on recieving it it appears to be only the medium size cda ie, code cda85-150 which is for engine size over 1600cc, and not the largest size cda100-150 which is for 6 cylinders. do you think this will make much differnce? i mainly just want a nice engine note, but for the price i dont want to have a reduced airflow (compared to the 100-150), i can handle a few % less airflow i suppose. just tell me it make no odds and ill be happy, lol.
  22. yes! fixed it. i think the steering lock had kicked in somehow, even though the steering wheel was still moving. gave it a good pull on the wheel and it unclicked phew. thanks anyhoo. :)
  23. hi, thanks ill try disengaging the lock again when i get home. the steering lock wasnt engaged when i first (re)tried to start it up, i did try turning the wheel and turning the key, but it didnt work and eventually the steering lock did kick in.
