Hey Guys!! I Done it!!! Turned out not to be high tencile steel so was able to drill in to it then loads of plusgas and an easy out!! jobs a gooden!!!! had to go out and get drunk after that! what a relife!!!! Thanks for the help!!!
-
Does anyone know the right way to drill high tensile steel? Slow or fast? If I try slow it might never get going but if I try fast i might just end up heat hardening it further??
-
Ok I found this picture off of E-bay its of a golf mk3 subframe but I thought it'd do for demonstrating the green pointer shows where the bolt thats sheared off of the corrado subframe goes and its in the main chassis the rest of the bolt is stuck in... I'm going to try find some left handed cobalt drill bits as suggested by tonedef and hope, pray maybe even do some hell marys it'll work!!! Failing that what am I to do? G-man its jaz! I had the same problem with a solid front engine mount not sure if you remember me? you sorted me another mount but you never got back to me about if I owed you anything for it? Did you manage to get that bolt out of the BBM one?
-
Awesome, I'll try take a picture as soon as I can, Its one of 2 main bolts that hold the subframe to the chassis underneth the car? Think theres captive nuts under the carpet on the driver side and passenger side foot wells? How do the stud extractors work you need to drill in to the bolt to hammer the extractor in don't you? Think these bolts are super hard high tensile steel very hard to drill bolts?
-
Hey Guys, I can really do with some advise,a bolt sheared that holds the sub assembly to the main chassis, I Know this is going to be bad but what do I do? I get the feeling drilling it out is not going to work How easy is it to take the carpet up? Is the thread in the chassis like a self clinching bush that I can hammer out? I've read somewhere that it might need cutting out and a new one welding back in, does this really mean i got to cut a hole in the chassis? How much do you think this would cost to get done from a garage? (I'm in sussex) I hope this isn't going to be the thing that leads to the breaking of my car :(

Hey guys My cars a 91 G60 think the mark 4 is a 5 stud disk isn't it? I can't really afford to do it anyway to be honest I'm trying to buy a flat at the mo so every penny saved is going to help... :( Thanks Valerain, I'll try the main dealer I kinda thought they might say I'd have to buy a new caliper or something.... but yeah failing that if you could sort me out a bolt that'd be awesome!! thanks again!!
-
Hey guys, I was giving my rear caliper a clean and managed to shear the sodding bolt that holds the handbrake return spring. I can drill the bolt out and rethread it no probs, its finding a replacement bolt i'm having difficulty with..... any advice anyone? also while i'm here does anyone know if theres a caliper overhaul kit i can buy? cheers in advance!!

Car going in for MOT... good luck needed!!!!!
corradorocks replied to corradorocks's topic in General Car Chat
Yeah looking at the rear of the MOT Refusal certificate it tells of all the acceptable and non acceptable failures for free retest.... brakes are not on the list for free re-mot..... D'oh!!!! It doesn't matter anyway... I managed to shear a bolt off the caliper so i got to drill it out and find a replacement..... its the one the holds the handbrake return spring on... anyone got a spare or know where i can get one from? think a trip to the breakers is on the cards for me....... -

It failed..... Offside rearparking break (stuck piston) and thats it!!! Thing is I can fix that well easy and get it back to them first thing tomorrow but it looks like I'll have to pay for another full mot check because "its on a computer now" £35 per mot.... what a rip!!! What a great start to the new year.....!! Cheers for your thoughts though guys it all helps -

Yeah its my first MOT with this car.... it should be ok but theres always the unknown little voice saying "Rear caliper/handbreak's not that great..." and "you've ripped the cat off and you expected to pass....!?" or " suspensions on its way out" or " rear wheel bearings are lose..." arrghhhhhh!!!!! I want to sought it all out when I do the rear axle bush's in the summer.... plus the chargers coming up for service.... and I'm in the middle of buying a flat!!! Going to start tearing my hair out and climbing the walls me thinks.... -
