  1. The new chrome pieces look killa, Lee. I wish I knew what you're about to pull outta your sleeve though...lol?!?! :-P
  2. Car looked amazingly smooth to be doing 160+ mph. Jay, you're a nut! 8)
  3. Just finished reading your feature in, PVW like less than five minutes ago. Can't believe that your car which is daily driven is so friggin clean. Looks so mint in the pic's...I bet it looks even better in the flesh. I tip my hat to you sir! 8)
  4. Got the exhaust back from the chromer today. Really nothing spectacular, just the mid pipe which bolts up to the header & the side exit zorst. Went ahead & chrome plated the exhaust hanger as well. Should be getting the rear subframe back from him sometime next week. I found a spare RS on eBay which I disassembled & had sandblasted so that the bodyshop could prep it for colormatching. Plan on flushing it into the false floor in the trunk area. The porshe 996 dash harness came in today as well. Gotta find a wiring schematic & get started. :?
  5. I can't thank all of you guys enough for the compliments & well wishes. Feels good knowing something I've created can be appreciated by my peers! :) I really don't have to many updates at the moment. On sunday I installed a power trunk lock kit to gain access to the trunk since the lock is shaved. Yesterday I placed an order with a local porsche salvage yard for a full 996 interior/ dash wire harness so that I can get the cluster on the dash fully functional. I'm also waiting for the exhaust midpipe & rear subframe ( Lee, you're gonna love it... ) to come back from the chromer. Should have more pic's & updates sometime early next week.
  6. Awesome daily driver, Lee. My daily is a run down '91 jetta sedan...
  7. I was happy with it but some things in the bay kept nagging at me like the hole for the fuel line & that stud. I also could see part of the seam in the raintray area where the new firewall was welded together. I'm estatic with it now though! :)
  8. Thanks for the kind words guys...here's some more pic's I took of the shell. :?
  9. Here's some pic's after the clearcoat has been layed down. My bodyguy is gonna buff out the entire shell sometime next week. Can't wait to see the final result!!! :) Here's a video of the car in the booth... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvaI9dHpUio
  10. My bodyshop has finally been able to make some progress on the shell. I decided that I wanted to shave the hole on the rear passenger side frame rail cover where the stock fuel lines would normally pass thru into the engine bay as well as the threaded stud used for the plastic fuel line clip on the passenger side strut tower. Now the bay is totally devoid of anything except the steering column boot. All of the hard brake lines are hidden as well. 8) These first few pic's show the bay & shell wetsanded down & being prepped to recieve it's new three layers of clearcoat.
  11. Glad you got this beast together, Ben! I desperately wanna see some vid's! :D
  12. I really wanna make it over there this year. The car is absolutely eating up every expendable cent I have right now though. Hopefully I'll be able to put something together by the time september rolls around!
  13. Thanks alot, Jay. Comments like that definetly mean alot to me coming from you guys. I really wish I could make the trip over to E38 this year to see all of your cars in person. Although I don't think my wallet is deep enough to finance a vacation like that this year.
  14. Thanks alot, Iow! :) I really do appreciate the support.
  15. I picked these pieces up today from my upholstery shop. Had the rear parcel shelf wrapped in porsche cashmere beige leather along with three 3D ginger alcantara inlays. The inlays have bevelled edges are semi-countersunk into the shelf and are fully cushioned! They also deleted the the rear seatbelt passages & speaker holes from the shelf as well. Both pieces of the inside door grab handles were wrapped in ginger alcantara.
  16. I figured that I could add oil using the dipstick tube. If not I'll just remove the upper intake manifold & valve cover for oil refills. My chromer took it upon himself to delete the fins from the lower timing chain cover. Absolute shame you won't be able to see any of it once it's installed.
  17. Here's a few more pieces that I got to pick up yesterday. Did a little experimenting with the valve cover! 8) Should have some progress pic's of the shell sometime next week. I'm kinda at the mercy of my bodyshop right now.
  18. I most definetly understand what you're saying. Sometimes I look at what I'm doing and say what have I gotten myself into. It's nice to look at & all but kinda impratical to use frequently. I figure that once the car gets in print & this years show season wraps up...I'll use it more frequently & try to enjoy it! [/quote:184a9] Ditto, enjoying mine as a runabout and pose mobile this year  Looking forward to seeing what surprises you have in store with the subframe!![/quote:184a9] Lee, I should have the rear subframe back sometime next week! I've invested somewhere around 60hrs. into the welding & smoothing. :? I put this together last night in my kitchen floor. Needless to say my girlfriend wasn't to happy with me! I'm about to get out of work in a few minutes to run over to the chromer...will take pic's & post them as soon as I can. Lata...
  19. Thanks, bro! I saw your question before it got edited. The plate is for the bottom of the shifter cable box.

  21. Picked up a few more pieces yesterday afternoon when I got out of work. Should be stopping by today as well to pick up everything else. Just have the rear subframe ( Lee, you're gonna love it... ), rims & a few other pieces of hardware left to get plated before the rebuild. :)
  22. Sorry, not related to your plating topic, but have you driven the car with it fitted or did you just buy it and store it ready for plating? Just interested as I'm considering getting a Supersprint 6 brancher myself, just wondering what the gains are like and where they are in the rev range. I've used headers on 16Vs in the past and the midrange was noticabley better, but slightly flatter response off idle up to 2K as they need a lot of heat to work properly. I haven't been able to drive my car yet with this header fitted. I brought the header & stored it away until I was able to get it powdercoated. From what I've heard the power gains from a header fitted to a basically stock VR are slim to none. Maybe about 5 - 7 hp. I know it sounds a bit silly but I chose to run the header just to tidy up the bay a bit more and it gives the VR a more aggressive sound.
