  2. Yeah that's gonna be a major pain in the arse. My chromer almost refused to do mine. He had to halt business for a few hours or so because he couldn't get anything else in the tank when he was dipping my rear beam! :lol:
  3. Lee, did you chrome or polish your VF-Engineering mounts? I wanna chrome my set but I'm weary of the polyurethane withstanding the heat of the chrome tank. Do you have any pic's?

  5. Don't know. Now i've done PVW its no big deal anymore, same with shows too. The car won 17 awards last year so there really nothing more to achieve in that respect either. My aim now is to just do it for myself, in my own time rather than rushing stuff. If your polishing a box, i'd say chrome it, it will save you masses of time cleaning it. Mine just been sat in the spare room and needs buffing already. Never been near a road!! I've heard that chroming is about half the cost in the US compared to the UK. You've gotta gold plate the centres of the BBS, thats the big thing for this year. TMT McCoy, thanks man. You've been there and done that so you'll know that feeling of collecting a fresh pile of chroming No problem, Lee. I have so much repect for you and what you've done with that car. It's even more amazing to know that it's a daily driver and it's not garage kept. :wink: It's real easy to catch the chrome bug...lol! You start out buy saying that you're only gonna plate a couple of pieces and before you know it you've gone mad and the whole lot has to be done. Toffee, since you have to break apart the gearbox for a rebuild I would suggest that you just go ahead and chrome it. It's truly gonna be a pain in the arse to keep it polished once it's installed back in the car with all of the ancillaries mounted back on it.

  9. I'll try and get some full side profile shots posted next week so you can see the full effect of the new stance. The pic's I snapped earlier on in the week came out a bit to dark. :oops:

  11. Thanx for all of the support guys! :wink: Boy, what a difference tires make! I guess tires are one of those things that aren't created equally. Was finally able to scrap the "chunky" Federal SS 595 205/40-16's the car wore last year and replaced them with a set of Continental ContiSportContact 2's in the 195/40-16 variety. With the -camber that I had previously dialed into the car I was able to lower it an additional 3.75 inches from where it used to sit. The end result is the tires stretching pretty nicely, the tires tucking 2-3cm's into the arches at all four corners and a much lower ride height! :D P.S. Please forgive me for the crappy photography & bodyshop dust...
  12. Thanks for all the positive feedback & constructive criticism guys...I really do appreciate it. :wink: Here are a few pic's of the engine bay. This area of the shell recieved the most attention. The factory firewall & raintray were cut out of the car and replaced with a custom smoothed firewall fabricated from the same gauge sheet metal. The factory drivers & passenger side frame rail covers were also replaced with smoothed sheet metal covers of the same gauge. The strut tower seems were left untouched. The top of the strut towers were smoothed as well as the identations below. The tops of the front wings & the slam panel were smoothed as well. The firewall is totally cleaned. I used a custom brake & clutch pedal assembly which totally eliminated the brake booster & master cylinder from the engine bay. The brakes now are devoid of power assist. The brake lines are hidden out of sight from underneath the car. The gas pedal is also custom. It's a bottom hinge unit which relocates the throttle cable to the underside of the car. The result is a firewall totally devoid of anything other than the steering column boot. The wire harnesses were ran through the frame rails, the steering colum boot and the car was converted over to manual steering. Since these pic's were snapped I have replaced the red spark plug wires with stainless steel braided units I sourced from a, "Hot Rod" magazine. I replaced the black distributor cap with a plastic chromed unit. The factory corrado VR6 radiator was replaced with a polished aluminum unit with a built in header tank and new stainless hard radiator hoses now replace the rubber items. Also the wire harness which was visible on the trans was tidied up and rerouted to the underside of the motor. :D

  14. The centre section section of the dash is painted bodycolor. I also wanna colour code the black defroster lining thats picture at the front of the dash, the driver & passenger side a/c vents & the airbag strip that runs the length of the dash. Lee, do you think I should leave the carpet black or replace it with a unit that matches the rest of the interior?!?!
  15. Thanks mate... The retrim was done by, Atlas Auto Trim which is located in the states. I stopped by there shop one day and showed them a pic of a, Snappy Gaitor's interior retrim that I had spied in an issue of PVW magazine.
  16. Thanks for all of the positive feedback guys! :wink: When I first started to plan out the interior I searched almost a year for an, Audi TT dash. I didn't have much luck as all of the dashes I came across had a blown passenger side airbag. I was talking to a close friend of mine about my dilema when he mentioned that he just happened to have a bare, Porsche 996 dash shell sitting in his basement. I scooped it up and collected all of the missing pieces from eBay & a couple of Porsche salvage yards. The dash still needs a little bit of work to refine the fitment and I'm still in search of a, Porsche interior wire harness so that I can get the cluster fully functional. I also still have to construct the false for the rear seat & trunk area...add harnesses, inside rear view mirror, radio and I've been kicking the around the idea of replacing the stock black carpet for a new carpet that matches the rest of the interior?!?! Let me know what you guys think! Well here's a couple of interior pic's...

  18. Yes sir, I definetly need the chrome trim and grooved gaskets for the rear side glass. If you can get the grooved gaskets for the front & rear windscreens i'll take those as well. I tried to fit the grooved gaskets from an '85 golf but the gaskets were a tad to big and thus buckled around the glass. Let me know what you can do! 8) Here's a pic of the gaskets from the '85 golf that I had fitted but I removed them because the fitment wasn't quite right...:roll:
  19. Thanks alot, Jay. Was just reading your, PVW feature earlier in the day... :shock: Here are a few more pic's of the exterior & undercarriage. I'll get some interior & engine bay shots posted by tomorrow. When these pic's were snapped the car hadn't been wetsanded or buffed yet. This is exactly how the car came outta the paint booth only three days earlier. The undercarriage recieved a new coat of undercoating/ por15 and then was sprayed body color to match the rest of the car.
  20. except mirrors......and a "hood". It's more than worthy of a feature, and a front cover shot for sure. keep at it. It reminds me of "big" Ron Huyzers mk2 VR, my favourite mk2 ever. Phat, check out the pic's up top. I attached a couple of pic's of the car with the hood fitted. I'm kinda conflicted with the whole mirror idea at the moment. I was thinking of mounting a drivers side mirror from a porsche 356 but I'm kinda hesitant of drilling holes in a freshly shaved door. Thanks alot for the compliments. That comparison you made is outta this world! :lol:
  21. You are correct. It's wearing a MKI GTI duckbill spoiler. I've been trying to track down a, bonrath "superdeep" duckbill spoiler for it but they're damn near impossible to find. Although I have been eyeing a carbon fiber unit for it! :lol:
  22. I hear 'ya, Phat. I've recieved lots of feedback on the grille. It seems as though people either love it or hate it...lol! I've been corresponding with, Elliott about a possible feature but I don't feel the car is ready yet to be shot. I'm trying to work out all the details so that it's as perfect as I can get it before it gets a mag feature. If it was shot now I think it would be a great injustice to the car. I'll get some more pic's posted between today and tomorrow. It's kinda tedious posting pic's seeing as though I'm still using a dial-up connection.
  23. Hello, everyone. I've been participating alot lately in, A20 Lee's member gallery thread and it was suggested to me that I start a gallery thread of my own to share the progress & pic's of my MKII Jetta 'Coupe. I hope it's okay for me to post here seeing as though it isn't a corrado. :lol: About two years ago I purchased a black MKII Jetta 8V sedan with the intentions of completing an OBDI VR swap along with some other bits & pieces. The plan was to have a nice daily driver. However once the motor was dropped and the interior was stripped I found that the floorpan and engine bay was consumed by rust. :cry: But I lucked out because the shop that was gonna do the swap for me had a beater MKII jetta 'coupe out back that just happened to be for sale and believe you me that it was no looker...lol! The car had faded blue paint, tacky yellow body graphic's, faded brown interior and etc... The new plan was to swap the complete VR drivetrain & MKIII interior into the car but as you can see that never happened. The project snowballed outta control and two years later after much sacrificing and heartaches I ended up with what you see here. A completely restored MKII jetta 'coupe which recieved a full shell respray. I am really proud of the paint job this car recieved. When this car got reprayed it was totally stripped. There were no doors, glass, hood, trunklid, wires or anything on the shell. The undercarriage was sprayed along with the exterior, interior and everything else was painted individually off of the shell! The paint job was really comprehensive. :D Just to give you a heads up, the car is not finsihed yet. I still have alot left to do & work out. I just had to show the car late last season because after two years of working on it, I had started to loose inspiration. But bringing it out and getting some feedback on it was the, "order of the day" and hopefully by the start of this season the car will be completely wrapped up. Here are some recent exterior pic's. Right now I am adding the grooved window gaskets and push-in chrome trim to all exterior windows. The bumpers are recieving chrome trim as well. I'm also planning to add a chrome, "Cult Society" boot plinth to the rear hecklende and some new 195/40's are in the post.
  24. Actually, you probably could get away with doing it like that. I forgot you had mentioned that you had silicon tape. :oops: No need of voiding the warranty when you could just mask it off & then dip it. :lol:
  25. Lee, the casing for the starter comes off quite easy. It's the magnets attached to the inside of housing which is gonna be a pain in the arse...I had to soak my casing in diesel fuel to get the magnets to come loose. Once I got the casing back I just dropped it off at a auto repair shop to have them rebuild the starter. You can also polish up the starter solenoid as well just make sure you give it a shot of clear coat so that it doesn't rust!
