    An Up Hill Struggle

Thanks Kev, the car has done the equivalent of 85000 miles (it's all in KM), so it shouldn't be too tired, but I do agree that she's just getting to the age now where things will need changing, Do you reckon it's worth taking her in to get all of these things done all at once? We're moving to Germany for a year in late June and I'm hoping that's she's going to get us there in one piece. I love the car 'big time' and I just want her to be at a relatively reliable level so I won't be worried on a long jouney. Thanks again, Dec
  2. I've owned the car for 3 weeks now and in that time, I've had the thermostat, the Auxillary Coolant Pump go, and have had them replaced and some wiring tidied. And now the VR6 is purring like a dream! Well, almost. I'm hoping I'm not suffering with paranoia, but on three occasions now, after going up a hill and then stopping, she's started to shudder and jerk as I've pulled away. It only seems to do it in either 1st or 2nd. Any ideas? She's also stalling occasionaly, I've read the other threads regarding stalling but they only seem to happen when the engine's cold and this is happening when she's warmed up. I don't know if the two could be related but could both of these things be caused by the clutch? Cheers for any thoughts on this one, Dec

    Overheating VR6

Thanks kevhaywire, That sounds promising. I think you're right, I think that when they fitted the pump something's happened to the stat. The fans did come on yesterday but not until about 110C. The garage is going to change the stat on Monday with a new VAG one and I'm hopeing that, that will do the trick. Thanks again
  4. I've got a bit of a problem. My C came back from a full service yesterday. She had a new Auxiliary Water Pump, some electrics done and all the usual oil change/ coolant drained etc. which was fine, but I've just managed to get her back from her maiden post service drive with a coolant temp. of about 125C/130C and oil at abou 104C. and at that temp she started to shudder at mid revs as if in protest. Could anyone tell me if you have ever experienced anything like this as I am going to send her back to the Garage tomorrow and if I can give them a few pointers it may make their lives a bit easier and the job a bit quicker/cheaper. Could it just be the thermostat?
  5. Thanks Roddy, I've booked her in to have a full service on Tuesday. So I'll ask them to do it then. Typical that it goes the second day I have though! Never mind. Cheers, Declan
  6. Hello all, I only joined today and I am very new to the technical difficulties of VR6's. Although I've been a fan for many years it was only two days ago that I took the plunge and bought a LHD VR6 (Moving to Germany in 1 month) Anyway, yesterday I took her for a long drive (like you do) only to find that on my return she was loosing a lot of coolant from the base of the Auxiliary Water Pump. Consequently, I can't take her out on any long drives, and I so want to. Do I need to replace the entire Pump or would it just be the seals/gaskets?(excuse my ignorance) Is this a job I could undertake? with little or no experience. Thank you in advance.
