Couple of pics of the MK1 GTI Cab I've just acquired
Peakz replied to Andy665's topic in Members Gallery
Looks like a bargain there Andy. Like I said earlier they're fun to drive and the K-Jet injection is so much nicer to drive than any Digifant injected car. I remember driving a Sportline cabbie (essentially the same car) years ago from near Carlisle back to the Midlands, loved every minute of it. Despite having a soft top it was very quiet, pretty responsive engine too. -
S3, M3, 968 but ultimately depends on the kind of birds you're after . . .

They're fun to drive on short journeys, looks like a rare Coco Chanel ltd edition too. Is it a 1.8 K-Jet engine? -
Yup the grill's colour coded.
-
Hmmm, got pix??

Hey Boj, she's debadged in-keeping with the wolf in sheep's clothing theme. . . . I wonder how you'd do a "fur coat no knickers" theme on a car though . . . ?

Nick, you still got your black Vento, what state is she in? I might buy another and get this baby upto concours quality. Currently on the lookout for a mint steering wheel and a mint set of standard BBS (not sure what these wheels are called) and/or Solitudes.
-
So go on then Nick, tell us when/where you saw this late Vento with Speedo's! You may be gutted about selling the Oett's but they've gone to a good home. I hear Kevhaywire is opening up a WheelMania franchise :afro:
-
Planning on keeping it looking fairly standard from the outside though I have my eyes on a set of 16" wheels, might also get an early front spoiler because this one is too small to be of any use at motorway speeds. I'd like to do some trackdays too so perhaps I'll get some Pagid Fast Road pads and a geo' setup at Stealth.
-
I'm with Jezza, standard VAG discs & bearings are pretty darn good and the Pagid's are great even from cold. Added benefit with the Pagid Fast Road pads is that the brake dust wipes off very easily too.

All good things come to those who wait :thumbleft:
-
Hey Trig cheers. Did you get the Speedline's off Nick?

Well chaps I bought a later Vento VR6 to replace the old one I sold a few weeks ago, still miss the old gal. After seeing a few Bora V6 4Mo's I kind of lost heart with all the faffing around of trying to find a decent one that actually felt good. This one ticks all the boxes for me, later OBD2 (contrary to my old post this is faster than my old remapped OBD1 Vento), Koni/Eibach chassis, Climatronic and a few other nice little touches :squarewink: Can't wait to open her up :norty:

Cor blimey guvnor, she's go-juss!! I remember lusting after a light blue mkI Scirocco as a young lad, used to walk past one every day on my way to school 8) . . . or perhaps it was the fox that owned it I lusted after . . .
-
Glad you got it sorted Mr Sands 8)
-
They look mintola, try them at £800 and see how it goes . . . Make sure you sell the Speedlines to Trig if you do part with them. I miss them wheels . . .
-
I've been led to believe the squealing comes from the pads vibrating within the caliper but I may be wide of the mark there . . .
-
Put some Copper Grease on the back of each pad, that'll stop the squeaking.
-
Well whatever you have fitted let's hope it does the job :) Let us know how you get on Chris.

I have a TOAD Ai606, been faultless in the 15 months I've had my car. The trick is to get a pukka installer. Think there's another thread about alarms somewhere here, could prove usefull if you can find it.
-
Damn, that black Rado with the RC's looks good enough to eat!
-
I have a TOAD Ai606 and have never had a problem with it, also had Meta and Sigma in previous cars without any faults. Old Cliffords like Concept 50x are great but anything from G4 series onwards are not that reliable. The main control boxes are way too complicated and riddled with glitches (probably use Microsoft software!).
-
CoxyLaad's got the right idea, Bora V6 4Motion. Pity we don't get the continental models, they get 4Motion with the 1.8T and all PD engines too, plus they get these in the estate versions aswell.
-
Yeah I had a GT TDI 115 on an X plate, sadly too early to qualify for cheap road tax. Bought it for peanuts because the owner couldn't afford to fault find a non-starting issue, fixed it with a new £11 ECU relay. Mine ran beautifully for the 7 months I owned it but I knew too many folks who'd had issues so I got rid and bought a funky Vento VR6 instead.

£4K gets you a high mileage PD engine or decent non PD. Non PD's are pretty quiet in comparison, set the pump timing right and it'll be both quick and economical. Used to have a T plate A4 110 TDI and it was great, multi link front suspension is great (Passat has the same). DIS (trip comp) on A4's tend to go dim and the heater blower motor packs up but can be cheaply re-bushed. Fantastic cars and not as common as Passats. PD engines to have are the 100, 130 and if you're a mentalist the 150! 115's were only made for a short while due to head gasket, turbo and cooling problems. Also all post March 2001 PD's are cheaper on road tax. As Jinx has pointed out the Octy is extremely good value. Oh, the later 110 engine (circa 2001 onwards) isn't PD but it's very good even though it only has a 5 speed 'box. Personally I think you'd be better off buying a sexy Vento VR6
