nah only happens when i first start the car. once started it runs perfect.. just did a quick search and found this- viewtopic.php?f=1&t=70614&p=820620&hilit=immobiliser#p820620 anyone replaced the factory immobiliser system? whats involved? cost?
-
My VR6 has developed a problem, at first it would do it now and then, now it seems to happen pretty much every time. the problem is when i start the car it stalls after 2 seconds, seems like the fuel pump is cutting off?? my car is a late [N '96 registered] car. So am i'm i right in thinking this is could be the factory immobiliser?? I've tried the spare key and the same thing happens. also i've noticed that if i turn the ign on and wait a few seconds before turning the engine over it starts and stays running, but again not always..... once the engine has started it doesn't cut out. help.

I'd be inclined to agree.....coolant and water pissing all over the engine bay caused havoc on mine for a couple of days after the hose burst. When the sun shines again (If??) leave it all to dry out and then try again. yeah i was hoping that's all it was, and after a fews days all is good again :D :D
-
yeah idles fine, same as before the hose split. but it's always had a slight uneven idle.
-
sorted out the split hose, but now i've got another problem, start the car drives fine for the first 5-10minutes.after that when you apply part throttle the car hesitates/miss fires, push the pedal more and it seems ok, also if you put it in a high gear with low revs it does the same, untill the revs build up to 3.5k+. it doesn't happen all the time though, it will drive fine 1 minute and then the next it will start to hesitate/miss fire again?? when it's not hesitating it drives like normal.

New hose fitted and all is good again!!!! [touch wood....] got a funny smell coming from the engine bay now as all that coolant burns off.
-
right just ordered a new hose, will be here tomorrow, got a day off on Thursday, so fingers crossed i've got VR smiles again by Thursday afternoon....... :?

that's what i'm thinking, but from seeing the smoke in the rear to switching the engine off was all of 10 seconds if that. so i can't be 100% certain the engine was running rough or just the shock of seeing white smoke?? maybe it's me just hoping it's just a hose........
-
went to my mum's to have a look at the car yesterday, filled it up with water....... and found a 2" split in the water hose by the throttle body. :D so fingers still crossed that's all it is/was.
-
i was thinking it may just be a hose, haven't checked yet, but fingers crossed!!!! thing is i'm sure it was running rough after i saw the smoke, but can't be 100% certain as i turned the ignition off asap.

cheers for the info chaps, was thinking around £400, asked some of my mates but they are shying away from doing the job, so not sure if i want to attempt it?? problem is i need the car daily, so whould need to buy a cheap run around [£100-150?] for the time being . so would end up costing me the same or near enough. if i get the chain done then may aswell get the clutch done to, i think i'll just do the HG for now, to keep the cost down. can anyone recomend someone??

update- found the fault split coolant hose from throttle body to heater matrix [to fit late vr]. has anyone got the part no. to hand?? because VW can't find the hose on there system. :( sad news for my vr, head gasket failed on me on sat evening, put my foot down off the lights, into second and then.... white smoke from the rear of the car and rough engine running, cut the ignition, shortly after lots of white smoke from the engine bay as all the coolant was pissing out of the engine somewhere around the exhaust mainfold area, i haven't gone near the car to see exactly where the water was coming from. i assume the HG has failed?? car has covered 88k. NOT HAPPY,

i bought 3 ultra violet leds and mounted them in the cluster where the normal bulbs go [but played about with the angle they sit at] they illuminate the needles prefectly with no glare. cost £3.

is that wire just for the C/L or C/L and total closure?? as i still haven't done my C/L trip.
-
both the same size yeah i might try that, the screws aren't visible on the fuel gauge. problem is it sits prefect at the top. the line looks very close to dial ring on your fuel gauge compared to the others. maybe just a tolerence issue??
-
if you look at that pic the horizontal white line on the bottom of the fuel/temp gauge is almost completely covered by the dial ring yet on the speedo and rev counter it's not obstructed by the dial rings at all.
