Just bought a VR6 and 2 days later I have problems!! On a motorway run today I noticed a graunching sound coming from the gearbox when in 5th - but only when my foot is off the accelerator. Foot back down and it's running fine... I can feel the vibration through the gear stick and it doesn't sound healthy at all. Anyone any ideas about what this could be and how much it's going to cost to sort? :( Cheers Digga

I've got a lot of brake fluid leaking around the offside rear wheel. Assuming the seal has gone in the caliper is there anything I need to know about replacing this unit? I know I need to pump the brake and bleed the fluid out - is there a special way of doing this/ kit to buy/ tools etc? Also, I've been using Dot4 - I've seen threads mentioning Dot5.1, is this the right stuff for a 1.8 16v? Cheers! digga

Not sure about this one - the alternator bracket on my c (16v 1.8) is missing one of the 2 bolts that fit into the alternator... one had worked its way loose which I tightened up but now it's missing. do these bolts have specific names/part numbers? can I pick them at halfords or gsf? cheers! digga

German & Swedish do hydraulic fluid - called M6162 I think.. Dig.

Thanks chaps. Just got 2 litres of M6162 from G&S - Will be flushing out the system and replacing this weekend. I'm also replacing a split hose (running from the reservoir to the ps pump). After Halfords recommeded the wrong fluid I'm wondering if they've given me the wrong hosing.. I'm sure its the right size, but does this need to be special VW/German hosing or am I ok with the Halfords stuff? Cheers! digga

Yep, Halfords told me it would almost certainly be the red auto transmission fluid which I used to top it up, should've checked on the forum :roll: first! OK, so green M6162 from G&S - how much do I need? Cheers! digga

Can anyone tell me what type of fluid I need for my 1.8 16v C and how much? I've got a leak from the hosing and need to drain and refill, any tips on this job would be appreciated.. Cheers! digga

After discussing with a few mates I've come to the conclusion that the cv joint is on the way on the near side of my C (16V 1.8). Has anyone any tips on doing this job? Will I need special tools eg. circlip pliers etc? Also, if I'm replacing the wheel bearing can it be drifted in easily like the rear ones? cheers digga

I've been having similar trouble to Pimp on my 1.8 16v - power steering moaning and groaning, and it's getting worse.. I replaced my water pump not long ago. Is the p-steering pump a similar job. Does anyone have any tips on doing this and what bits actually need replacing? Cheers! Digga
