  1. hey, i have a late spec wing. it's red, unsure if it's tornado or flash red though. i'm in exeter
  2. Yep cheers John. Didn't get chance to get back on the computer after speaking to you yesterday. As said this is now sorted. Should have a replacement engnie coming my way over the weekend Thanks for the offers Steve
  3. Hey guys, I'm after a replacement block after mine destroyed itself. Ideally I'd like a 2.0 but will consider a 1.8. Local to Exeter would be nice, or posted if far away. Cash waiting Steve
  4. rang them up and it was that my card payment hadn't gone through. re-did it and it worked fine. so all is well and the order has gone through. it was just me being pessimistic and thinking a £67 saving was too good to be true!
  5. got an email today saying i have to ring them about my order. probably to say it's been declined or something. haven't had chance yet.
  6. i think you can pull it out, but you will obviously lose brake fluid. take the pads out and push the caliper out(but not all the way), i think you can pull the rubber gaiter off to get more access to it. use some emery cloth to clean it. smear some fresh brake fluid on it and then wind it back in.
  7. i too have just bought a jetex exhaust for my vr. £67 saving :D almost bought one online yesterday too! thanks
  8. i went to my local tyre place last week and picked up an 075 battery for £38. ok i don't know what brand it is, but it starts the car fine and i'm sure it'll last for a couple of years
  9. Hi, how much if i post you two handles, to be repaired and posted back? thanks
  10. pretty sure if you're towing it, it has to be mot'd, taxed and insured. better off borrowing a trailer (if you have your trailer license, or old enough)
  11. here's a pic, shamelessly stolen from vortex number 10 - one of the levers of that
  12. I'll try and explain this as best i can without pics, on the passenger door.... on the latching mech that goes round the b pillar striker pin (bolted to the end of the door with two allen bolts) there are two levers on it, on is the lock, which moves up and down with the door pin/key, and the other is what releases the latch off the b pillar pin so you can open the door. well that second lever is snapped on my brothers corrado. the door is shut and i've been trying for days to get it open. i've tried the old metal ruler down through the top trick, but because there is nothing there to press i can't open it :bad-words: is there anyway of getting it open with out jimming the side of the door, that really is a last resort, and don't particularly want to go down that road. can't take the door handle out or door card off with the door shut :mad2:
  13. Stuey B for sorting me out with a top rad hose for my VR Received within 2 days of paying, and was very good with coms and support Cheers fella Steve
  14. no unfortunately i didn't, just dove straight in a drained it. would definitely have been useful as a reference to have checked it first. i'll have a look at the oil sensors tonight when i get chance to refill the system
  15. i know, but i was kind of hoping someone would chip in and say it takes a long time for the remain 3-4 litres to drain out of such a big engine after it's been running :pale:  this is my first oil change on a vr so all new to me, plus they say you learn from my mistakes..... hopefully it won't be too costly.
  16. thing is i checked the oil about a month ago and topped it up a little, but there are no visible oil leaks and i haven't noticed any smoke coming out the back so it's a bit confusing really. i know it sounds far fetched, but maybe i have the wrong dipstick in there? i.e too long? i would have thought the oil buzzer/light would be on all the time if there was only 2 litres of oil in it? anyway i'll crack on with the oil change and put in 5.5 litres and see where it shows on the dipstick. fingers crossed no damage done
  17. yeah i thought there should be twice as much really. i haven't taken the filter off yet, but there can't be much more than 1/2 litre in that? i think the engine takes about 6 litres when doing an oil change
  18. Ok so I knew the oil was low, (the oil buzzer was coming on when going round sharp corners fast) instead of topping it up i thought i'd drain it and give it a service at the same time. but today i warmed the engine up for 5 min with it ticking over and then let the sump plug go, but only 2 litres have come out, surely there must be more, it's been draining for well over an hour now. i can't believe i've been driving around with only 2 litres of oil for the last couple of weeks :gag: :cuckoo:
  19. well the front wheels aren't on an axle, they are on indivdual wishbones, and you would know about it if one of those had moved
  20. maybe the camber bolts weren't pinched up tight enough and the top of the wheel has moved outwards
  21. are your wings different? i.e one is early and one is late? i have the same problem due to replacing a rotten wing on my vr with an early style one :mad2:
  22. ha yeah well it's funny you mention 'turbo'...... i think i may go down that road with this engine sometime, watch this space.... p.s does this look like a good deal? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TURBO-KIT-ALL-VOLKSWAGEN-VR6-VW-BRAND-NEW-KIT-/170346524761?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27a971b059
  23. ah thanks for clearing that one up. starting to learn the terminology of these parts now :) managed to get another 1/2 hour to look at it today. took the rest of the main bearings off and found the following #1 just beginning to fail #2 (pictured) the worse shell #3 almost as bad as #2 #4 not quite as bad as #3 #5 again, just on the verge of failing #6 & #7 perfect condition, look brand new! so this is more pointing towards a loss in oil pressure, as 5 out of the 7 shells have started to break up. with #'s 2,3 and 4 being the starting point now i need to decide if it's economic to replace all parts necessary, these being main shells, conrod shells, conrod bolts, and possibly oil pump? any idea on a rough price? or do i just scrap the engine? :confused4: on a positive note though, the timing chains look in great condition, especially for a 160,000 mile engine  i guess the must have been swapped at some point
