Yep.... Thats what my thoughts were too... Once its back i'm gonna try replacing the Oil pump to see if it clear the intermitent tappet noise... and if it doesn't!!! Then i'm sending it away for the chains, followers and head to be done... Nuff said!

Yeh its the rubber inners that are disintergrating... Won't they look stupid without them.... It'll just be a long hole ????

KADVR6, Sorry mate... I really appreciate your offer, which i may still come and get a quote, but I have some boys I've been using for a couple of years now They always look after me and are quite understanding when i ask for things to be done the way i want them..... They are pro's with an oven bake machine... I'm looking to pay around £700 for it to be stripped right down and finished to my perfection.... They know i'm a fussy bugger!!!!

Can the roof strips be replaced? What sort of costs? They look weather'd at the moment... If the paintwork comes back mint I'd want the rest of the car to follow...

Well the car goes in for a Full respray in 2wks.... This is giving me the time to think about any alterations that I may possible want to consider :roll: I am contenplating to make some major changes such as getting rid of the side strps... De seamng the rear and getting rid of all badges/lines.... Getting rid of toe eye and smoothing the whole over.... The roof rails have seen better days, how hard is it to smooth them over too??? Colour coding all of mirrors and door handles... :? :? :? Or shall i just keep it OEM and keep it an origal car with just a set of rims and lowering it???? What are your thoughts guys???

Where i used to work, every nite on going home most cars including mine would have been shat on.. which was on a daily basis..... except this one women which her car never got touched.... This used to piss me off!! One day we were sat in the tea room and she was bragging about how wonderfull her Hyandi coupe was... and it must be a good car as the seaguls leave it alone out of respect... I replied promptly with when they fly over her car they fly upside down.... she asked why!!! I replied cos it aint worth sh*ting on.. That soon took the smile off her face :)

I've got an Audi A4 tdi quattro at the moment 2002 model...180bhp, and that thing fly's... 4wheel drive certainly is amazing, i noticed that in my r32... I used to push that to the extreme through the country..... I raced an S3 once through carriage ways while it was p*ssing it down with rain... Brilliant race but he backed of at the round abouts, were i was going through them sideways :):):) Oh i miss that car!!!!

The rust on the bonnet and all around has only scabbed really.... I wasn't going to replace the bonnet as the rot hasn't gone though to the other side... KADVR6, Did you have a full respray?? If so what ws the cost?

I do love the look of an S3..... I did go to buy one, which left me in a debate between this and a R32!!! The R32 did it for me.... The engine sound is awesome but the quality of an S3 is superb... I just think the 4cyl engine lets the Audi down... Ok, I no its fast enough but just sounds like a 1.8t golf :(

Ok gave it a good clean yesterday.... Don't think this acr has ever seen a polish. Had to give it T-Cut to restore the colour and get a chine on it... :roll: I will be getting it in for a respray, Just not to sure if i should do theengine work first although I am just being picky with the tappet noise as it runs like a dream... Took some pics for you guys..... Oh yeh, My first corrado with Aircon.. Been awesome these past couple of days :D

mo_527, You do need to tread carfully if its a G60, because an overhaul of the charger can be costly.... Bit wierd there's no service history from VW only after 2 years... Remember at that time this was an expensive motor, I'd of thought People with that sort of money would want to keep it serviced well!!! Is it based in Birmingham???

Just out of curiousity... If its not a common problem for the Oil pump to loose pressure hence make the engine tappety.... What would be the other cause??? I've owned 3 vr6's!! This ones worse for tappets but all the rest had a very slight sound too... Why would that be???? Does it suggest their damaged???

Guy said the Oil pump is around an extra 125.00... So can't be bad!!! I thought the oil pump would be an easy job? A matter of just taking of the sump and the oil pump would be there!!! I am learning so please educate me if need be!!!

I've just had a good chat with a Guy called Carl from StokeVWspecialists. I was enquiring about getting the tappets and chains done on my new Vr. Very usefull chap.... Quoted me £500.00 for the tappetts - tensioners and chains and replace the clutch with a sachs.... Not bad considering local Vw specialists quoted me £1275.00 (Robbing Bistards) Anyhow he also said it the Head needs doing he will do that which will include all new seals and doing valves stripping the head right down for an extra £250.00 :shock: :) But the best pointer was, he said that the reason it being tappetty is not down to the lifters!!!!! 9/10 it's the Oil pump which has wore inside. Replacing this normally eliminates the tappetty problem :D Might just have a go at changing the Pump... :!:

With regards to the rear calipers... They seem fine. Hand brake is sharp. When i went to buy it i really did put it through its pace's and drove really well. My only enoyance is the tappets... I polished up this evening and the colour really has been restored although it does have alot of rust pots dotted all over, so a respray is essential. I did drive a hard deal with the guy and drove away with a bargain :)

Well guys..... I've been, saw, and brought it home. Car drove really well! Tappetts aren't apparent so all sounds good. My project is to get it fully resprayed and get the chains and tappets done. I want it running sweet so...... My questions are how much is this going to cost? What should I have done whilst the work be carried out? Who's the best person to take it to around the midlands area?

Cheers Guys..... Sam i just don't seem to be bonding with the G60 very well... I really miss the sound of the Vr6 and the fact its a motorway cruiser... I like my refined engines than aposed to the G60.... I don't know yet see how this evening goes... I may just keep both of them :) :) :)

Luckily its had 3 women owners so i'm hoping its never been thrashed when cold, From my understanding this is when the tappetts get a harmering... I HATE THAT NOISE arrrhhh... (Tappetts) Fully loaded tho, heated leathers, aircon too on a 1996.. Need s full respray but that doesn't bother me.... Mechanics are far more of a headache and expensive
