The bits I bought were assemblies numbers 8 & 12 from the attached image... Assembly 8 (part number 1H0 898 014 A) included both left and right-hand cables - assembly 12 (part numbers 1H0 898 019 & 1H0 898 020) comes as two different kits - about £36 each (inc VAT). Part number 1H0 898 014 A (both LH & RH cable assemblies) is around £70. Try and get a discount... I got 10% without even asking! (I think they felt sorry for me owning a 13 year old Corrado!) If you need any help just get in touch... Cheers, Ian

Sort of related... how do I remove the plastic handbrake moulding (the one that's been replaced by a silver one in carpy25's post above)? I've tried to pull it off forwards but scared I'll end up braking it. Ta

I've just finished stripping my sunroof down and replacing it - I discovered the plastic mouldings on the sunroof frame (with the drain holes in them) were leaking where they are bonded to the sunroof assembly and then sealed with epoxy. In heavy rain (and with a hosepipe too) water was getting through the seal and onto the top of the roof lining... every time I braked the water came shooting out of the nearest available hole in the roof lining - I suppose it could travel to the sides and then down the A-pillars down to the floor? Maybe I'm talking nonesense, but the sunroof drains themselves were not blocked and after I've re-sealed them I've got no more dampness issues...

Done!!! :D in the end it was just a couple of clips at the front of the trim panel that were not engaging properly. Now on to all the other jobs that need doing (good job I've got 2 weeks off)!
-
Thanks for looking Dic... ordered the one remaining fastener thingy today so hopefully it does exist and will turn up in the next couple of days! Still not sure about replacing the trim... there's no way it will pull forwards with the roof fully tilted - do you think trying whilst partially opening the roof will help?
-
Just contacted VW and they have ONE of these showing on their system nationwide... they won't reserve it for me until I give them my card details... and I can't give these over the phone!!! Fate appears to have intervened once again as I can't get to VW until Saturday :( Any luck looking 2corrados? Cheers, Ian

Its the RHS that I managed to break - frustration of being so close to having it properly finished I think... Even with the roof tilted I can't seem to get the trim to slide the last 1/3rd. When I lower the roof with the trim in that position, it goeas backwards into the headlining!! Smiffy... like 2corrados says, getting the roof out isn't as daunting as I thought it would be - its pretty easy really.
-
2corrados was a great help to me... he may have more valid ideas than me but it sounds like you could have "issues" with the guides like I had. You may be able to see if something is obviously broken by removing the steel sunroof (this is really easy - when tilted just slide the internal trim backwards and remove the 4 torque-head screws - you'll be able to see most of the mechanism). I've finally managed to get hold of the VW electronic parts guide, so if you need any help identifying any bits, just let me know - that goes for anyone else too...

Well... it's taken longer than expected (been acting as a tour guide for some Taiwanese visitors at work for the past week) - plus once I'd fixed the LHS, I noticed the same issues with the RHS. Now its in the car and ALMOST finished - apart from the fact I can't get the bloody interior sunroof trim to slide back into position :mad2: I tried to force it but broke the RH hinged fastener (part number 357 877 270 :( ) - I'll have to pick another of these up from VW, unless anyone has one I can have (abviously for a small fee) - piccy attached. What am I doing wrong? It just doesn't seem to want to engage with the mechanism...
-
The two kits I got were the cable kit for both LH & RH and a replacement kit for the LH runner that sits in front of the cable die-casting assembly. I'm hoping that they can get hold of this other kit fairly quickly so I can get it fixed and move onto the other jobs that need doing!

The evening started really well... managed to get 10% discount at VW. Had a few glitches to start with but as you've said Dic its really easy to replace everything... I've discovered one part that's broken though that I don't have a spare for - images attached (apologies for the garish dust-sheet!). Its part of the mechanism that ultimately holds the steel roof in place - part number 722 686 987 LI. I think this may have caused the die-casting to fail in the first place. There is a lot of old grease on the parts I've taken off - do I need to re-grease the track before I replace everything? Cheers, Ian

Cheers Dic... I'm sure I'll be ok. Actually, I'm really surprised how easy it has been to get so far (removing the trim etc - used to FIATs where everything breaks)... just cleaned the roof lining this evening with Vanish foamy stuff - seems to have done the job and removed 12 years of hair gel deposits! The plan is to get everything replaced tomorrow night assuming that the parts arrive from VW. Looking forward to having it fixed and driving it again. On to the next job then... getting the timing chains + clutch replaced! (not sure I'll manage that one on my own thoug...)
-
So far I've removed the roof lining... surprisingly easy to be honest. Parts are on order with VW and should arrive tomorrow... To be honest I'm not particularly looking forward to replacing the bits when they do arrive, but I guess I'll find out how easy it is tomorrow night! The drain holes seem ok, its just the plastic moulding that's leaking - a bit of sealant should do the trick. I'll let you know how I get on... or not as the case may be! Cheers, Ian

I take it both the cable and the runner kit can be easliy bought from VW? I may need a little advice when replacing the cable etc. as I can't see an easy way of dismatling it at the moment. You said there is an easy way to remove the sunroof without removing the trim... this sounds ideal! How do I do this? My photo regarding the leak may have been a bit misleading... I've attached another piccy with a blue line along the joint that's leaking. Cheers, Ian

Right... I've managed to get the sunroof down temporarily - thanks for the advice dic. The die-cast bracket on the passenger side has broken off at the end - the cable and everything esle seems to be in tact. I've attached some photos showing this. It looks as though it will be a complete pig to replace just this part (obviously with the whole mechanism removed from the car)... will I need to replace the whole thing? I seem to have uncovered another problem however. I posted another post at the same time about my seemingly leaky windscreen http://www.the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?t=48780. This appears to be being caused by the sunroof as well - the plastic moulding with the drain hole at the front appears to be leaking inside the roof cavity where is is bonded to the metal frame (photo attached taken from inside the car looking towards the front LH side of the roof). Is it just a case of re-sealing this, or is it more serious? Thanks, Ian

Cheers. If it stops raining this weekend I'll give it a go and let you know how I get on. Ian

In June, Autoglass replaced my extremely cracked windscreen with a brand-spanker. I was told to take the car to them (rather than have the mobile call-out) as "Corrado windscreend are really difficult to do". After 3 hours, I picked the car up and drove home... this is when the rubber trim peeled itself off the outside of the screen. I took the car back and they refitted the trim (lots of sealant all over the bodywork / door handles etc.) All was well for a couple of months until it got a bit colder and wetter. I began to suffer from a patch of condensation appearing near the tax disc holder that I couldn't shift. I took the car back claiming an incorrectly fitted screen, which to their credit they removed and refitted free of charge. A couple more months down the line, I've still got the patch appearing. I had another glazing company take a look at it and on removing the interior trim from the passenger side, the insode of the pillar (behind the trim) is really damp with condensation. The guy from AC glazing said the screen looked to be fitted ok and that the condensation seems to be coming from the dampness in the pillar rather than a leaking windscreen. I can't seem to shift the condensation patch and don't really know what to do next. Could it be a sunroof drain that's split or blocked, causing the dampness? Any help greatfully received! Ta.

Greetings all... just to coincide with the cold and (really) damp weather, my sunroof has jammed open in the raised position. When I try to close it, only the driver's side goes down. The cable still seems in tact, but it doesn't even attempt to close the passenger side of the roof. I've had a chat with a couple of people about it and they say the only way to see what's properly wrong is to remove the trim from the roof panel and get a proper look... anyone got any advice on possible causes or suggestions of easy ways to strip it down? Cheers.

you learn something new every day! :D

I tried the word search and got over 2600 matches so I thought this way was the best! :D Are they main dealer only or can I get them cheaper elsewhere?

I want to upgrade my wipers as at the moment they don't do an awful lot apart from make a really annoying noise as they jump across my windscreen! I've heard that 2 drivers side Lupo GTI wipers will do the job perfectly but when I went to VW this weekend they said there are two types... do I go for the normal ones or the 'Aero' ones?

I know this will get locked immediately.... perhaps not....

I use the same technology on kids' bikes -
Might sound simple, but does your cooling fan spin round? The wiring to my fan motor was knackered and resulted in normal running temperatures as long as I was travelling at a decent speed. As soon as I stopped, the temp got up to over 100 degrees. This was all after I'd had a new thermostat and thermoswitch fitted. Your problems sound similar to mine... I'd do a simple check to make sure the fan is kicking in ok - could be dodgy wiring (like mine) or a fuse if its not.
-
Cheers for the diagrams bc... I'm sure I'll be able to figure out what's going on... looks to have everything I may need!

Right... just been on the hotline to HQ (as I'm stuck at work and my Dad's retired and got all the time in the world... plus he wants the car off his drive ASAP!). First update... I now have a new thermoswitch. Hopefully this'll be fitted by the time I get home! Secondly... the wire colours. Red & green(?) is at 12v all the time. Connect this to the red & white wire and the fan spins. Connect red & green to red & black and the relay just clicks... Hope this helps
