it sounds like you have changed a lot of bits, i would really try the water pump it sounds very possible, were they standard stats you fitted you can get ones that open earlier which make it run cooler, not that its your prob im sure, is it ok on the motorway, or is it just in trafic? change the pump, let me know, -
mpg 28-30 normal driving, how do i check for over fuelling, does anybody want to plug me into there vag.com?? im in london thanks nick

i dont know why the fans started working, maybe the aux pump is not enought to pump the water properly and trigger all the sensors, but it definatly solved the prob, why do you keep changing the stat, if the bootom hose gets hot its working, look how much water comes into the expansion tank, mine was a steady trickle before which i thought was ok, but a good stream after, trust me if it has not been changed, it is prob broken, change it and then at the least you know, if you keep runnig it hot you risk warpping the outside cylinders, nick -
a couple are black but more dry a couple gungy black which i guess is oil, it was over heating for a while because of a water pump, im sure this buggered it a bit, what the plan for checking sorting the running rich, as a guide it does about 300 miles to a tank,on average if that helps thanks for the help

VR6 Cooling questions (Major Breakthrough - Last Page )

i think it was around 20-30 pounds from german swedish, and actualy about the same from v dub wow! its on the left hand side of the engine as you look in the engine, there is a guide somewere on this site expaining how, pic's as well. v dub used a pump with plastic blades at first which i gather are garanteed to break so it is very comon for a pump to go, most i guess have been replaced with a metal one by now, but mine had not, the only thing i would say is when you jack the engine up, it has to go up quite a long way, i thought it would break the exhaust but it was ok, and the old pump can be a bit of a pain to get out, i tapped mine with a hammer and end of a screw driver to loosen it then it came out, good luck nick -

hey, i had the same prob on my vr, always at 110, overheated in traffic a water bubbled over, checked thermostate etc, when it got to 112 the wapping stage three fan came on and it sounded like a hoover craft but then when of and temp climed again, in the end i took the main water pump out the one that runs of the engines belt, i did not think it would be this as it had been replace at 80.000mile, but took it out and there where no blades on it, not one, the only pump must have been the aux pump, because even at idle water came out into the expantion tank and it was circulating, anyway put a new one in and it works a treat, stage one and two fans come on fine, infact it never realy gets that hot around 90 then the fans cut in and never goes higher, oil temp perfect now too, hope it helps nick -
and sorry i meant 24v convertion, how much? they do sound nice!!

im pretty sure its black, i know the plugs are in a bad way although i have cleanded the, can they cause over fueling, plus it has that little backfire, which i thought was over fueling? what checks can i do? thanks guys

my 93 vr6 burns a fair bit of oil about 1 litre every 500 miles, just recently i have noticed black smoke if i rev it hard, a little bit of a back fire some times, and 3 of the six plugs oily after 5oo mile, i have just taken to cleaning them, my questions are this, is it def bottom end? how much to replave just bottom end? how much for a rebuld/replacement i did a 16 valve convertion in a mk 1 golf, it was pretty straight forward, is a 20v converstion better, i want it to run properly no messing around because it is a convertion, and how much? lastly how long do you think i can get away with, now theres a bit of black smoke, i dont use it that much, would a new set of plugs and a oil cange help a bit as the plugs have had a rough ride recently. many thanks nick

there is a fuse above the relays on mine, it is a pain to get to but it is there, there is suppose to be anouther fuse for the abs but i will be damned if i can find it,, of you find it then post it up here because it seem to cause alot of people problems finding it, if that does not work then vagcom is the way forward, 40 quid from any vdub specialist! nick

they are femal going to the sensors on mine but im sure you will get it, it a pain getting both prons of the meter in there, but then i might just have big mm, so i have a wierd thing with mine, i found one of the back sensors not working, but if i drive for a while and turn the engine of and on again, it works the light goes out,, if i leave it of for a while then it stays on again untill i repeat, also you definatly feel the brake pedal kind of click when it is working as the light goes out, its not the vacume, definatly something to do with the abs cheers nick
