Quick Q can any1 tell me which oil is best for a VR6???????? And is it 10w40 semi??? thanks
-
sounds like a good idea as far as i am concerned!!!! lol And they give no-claims discount but then put the price up again so we save next to nothing anyway!!! They love to take our money from us for our premium but as soon as it comes to paying out for a crash etc they like to take as much time as possible and try everything to get out of it lol!!! Wonder what they would do if we took as long to pay them as they do with us!!!!!!!!! lol

i know what you mean mattosmond i got a quote for the VR and would have saved a wopping 1p if i got a cat 1 over a Cat 2! So i thought to myself that the extra £100+ for the cat 1 was really unjustified so was getting the cat 2 until i actually phoned the insurance and they so nicely then told me that i would only be insured if i got a Cat 1, which they said was to do with my age and the type of car it was. i then had to state previous cars to find out if they would cover me! funny how they never said any of that on the confused web site lol!!!! and it only took 60seconds to find the quote and about 10mins to fix it over the phone!!!! so in the end it cost me an extra £100-150 (i think) to save a penny!!!!!! What a BARGAIN lol

nah not got a lap top but think a friend of a friend has 1 so need 2 find out! thanks again

OK cheers does any1 know of anywhere up this way where i could get it checked? rather than getting robbed at a dealers!!!

i know that the water will heat in traffic as constantly flowing so not getting time to cool in rad! water should be flowing ok had new pump fitted and system filled again by a garage so should be ok! doesnt use any water at all which is the strage bit. so must not be getting too hot! would having it connected to a vagcom tell me the correct engine temp? to see if the guage is the faulty bit?? cheers all fun and games lol!

Stan 24v if you dont mind me asking how much roughly did you pay for the 24v conversion? and where did you get it done about? cheers
-
ok thanks kev! that looks like what i will be giving a go at doing tommorow then!! thought id add, the thermostate is jammed open, as when a new 1 was put in the water and oil temp shot away up! u any idea what the deep down problem could be?? really want to get to the bottom of this!
-
Rite guys i changed the thermo swith and got a new temp sensor for the radiator, but still kicks up to 110oC in traffic! the fan still does not come on until 110 either. any more ideas of what could be the problem?
-
ok no prob ill get myself a new thermoswitch thenand c if that fixes it! heres hoping!!! lol PhatVR6 it was just the way i understood your message i was thinkin you meant the first and second fan not the first and second speeds, but i get ya now! lol cheers guys
-
ok then thats great then! that looks like that will be the next thing to do! sorry bout that PhatVR6 i just picked up what you said wrong!! me being a bit dumb lol! after reading what you said again i understood!!! i will keep uz posted on the outcome many thanks again!!!!!!
-
so the only thing it could be in my case is that the fuse has gone then? as my thermostat is open and the fan is coming on!!
-
ok well that does make me feel a bit better about the situation :D lol! that could be the case as the temp gauge never worked when i first bought the car! but the oil level wasnt that bad so took a risk lol! got the thermostat housing changed, as thats what i was told was the problem by the seller! but wasnt then all the sensors, and finally they worked out it was the actual gauge so got an auto spark to have a look and he found that the contacts just needed cleaned! so wonder what is next to go wrong? lol so you dont think it is the head gasket then? as thats what a mechanic said things are pointing to! but he did say that there are others which make him think its not so i dont have a clue to be honest! but thanks for your help guys much appreciated
-
ok get ya!! yeah they both seem to kick in at the same speed. they come on fast then slow down, and they both seem to do the exact same thing! thats the thing they kick on at 110oC! im guessing this is too high? (sorry not too clued up) its more the problem with what is causing it that i am trying to find out. so hopin if i could get to the bottom of it that everything would maybe fix itself out hopefully!!!

both fans are working fine it seems. i popped the bonnet outside my house when i got home and waited for them to kick in to check and they both did!!! thanks for the welcome!! the turning off the engine aint to good when its slow rolling traffic tho lol but thanks anyway!
