  1. I think I saw you both on the A50 heading towards Holmes Chapel on Friday about 4:15 ish?
  2. Hi mate, I just need the large caps, which I'll have thanks! Let me know how you want paying (pm?). Where abouts in the NW are you?
  3. Hi All, At the moment I have Koni springs and shocks all round on my 94 VR and it's blooming hard. Problem is we're moving to the country where all the roads are lanes and obviously potted to buggery. I thought it might be a good idea to go back to standard springs but keep the Koni shocks (purely down to money at the moment, otherwise I'd go back to standard completely). First question is, is this a good idea? I know I'll loose the 40mm drop, but I don't mind that. Second question is I've got the replacement springs from a late 93 Corrado but the upper spring plates I have don't fit. My mechanic got hold of some from VW but he says they are too small. Now I know they changed during the VR's lifetime, but I can't find the right part number, can someone help me out? Are there any other bits I need to go with the larger plates to make it all fit together? My mechanic said all he needed was the correct size plates but I thought I better check to be sure. Thanks George
  4. Hi All, Recently put a new battery and starter motor in, so did the ECU reset. Looking at the figures I'm getting the Ignition Timing seems a bit out of tolerance compared to the Wiki guide. It drops down to 3.8 on occasion, but usually fluctuations between 6 and 4.5. I've attached a log from VAG-COM if anyone wants to stare at lots of numbers. If the timing is out, what do I need to fix it? New TPS? The plugs are due a change so would that help? Car runs absolutely fine as far as I can tell, no hesitation, smooth acceleration throughout the rev range. Thanks George
  5. A cheap alternative to the pollen filter is to cut a piece of cooker extractor fan filter to fit over the top of the plastic cover. If you make it slightly larger all round you can easily slip an elastic band over the top to keep it in place. Probably not fine enough to keep the pollen out, but it does an A1 job of keeping the bits of tree flying through your vents! :)

  8. Hi all, Looking to replace all the top mounts on my 94 VR. Are the mounts the same all round? There are strut mount kits on GSF for the VR 91-> so do I just get 4 of those or do the front and rears differ? Sorry for the noob questions, I tried a search but couldn't find anything. Thanks George
  9. No, but if it makes you feel any better I've got the exact same wire plugged into absolutely nothing.
  10. Hi All, I recently replaced the battery and starter motor on my VR. It ran like a dog on first fire up, which I think is to be expected as I need to run through the ECU reset procedure. Problem is the speedo has gone all weird on me and seems to be a few seconds behind the rev counter. Is there any point me running through the reset if the ECU doesn't know the correct speed? I've tried to find a pic of where exactly the speed sensor is on top of the gearbox to be able to check it, but to no avail, so if someone could give me some details I'd be most obliged. But even then, I am getting some movement on the speedo, albeit slowly, so does that rules out the sensor? It's overfuelling like mad too, but I assumed that was due to it losing all settings. I MAY have upset some of the wires around the starter when I replaced it, but without being able to find the sensor, I can't see if that was one of them. Thanks George
  11. sportsman's bet it fails on you again when the engine is hot sometime tho... Well, it's gone again so you win! I'll get a new/reconditioned one.
  12. Took the solenoid apart and gave it a good old clean, replaced and all is well again!
  13. Hi all, Had the AA out this morning as the VR wouldn't start. Guy gives the starter solenoid a whack with a bar and all is fine. Problem is it needs a whack to start every time now :( Is it new starter motor time or is the solenoid able to be removed and fixed separately? Are these jobs that I can do myself? I don't mind having a go. Thanks George
  14. I did think about doing this, only problem is you can only fix the right hand screw on the outer box while the fuse cover is out. Ah well, might be ok without that screw. I'll give it a try.
  15. Hi All, I'm in the process of putting all the trim back in after having had the carpets out. All going well until I came to putting the fuse box cover back in. It's never sat in there very well, so I'm determined to get it to fit properly this time. Can I get it to go back in NO!! It's driving me INSANE!!!! I'm pretty sure it's getting stuck on the right hand side. From the attached pic you can see there is a lot going on to the right and I was wondering whether anyone could check how that area looked on theirs and see if I've got some wires out of place that are stopping the cover fitting properly. Many thanks George DSC02263b.JPG[/attachment:123dcgmm]
  16. I got a quote for, wait for it, £140 for a retrim
  17. Hi All, Took my carpet out to dry the sodden sound deadening and found these two wires not seeming to be doing much. I think the first one might be some kind of aerial, maybe for the central locking from the fob? 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfDSC02257.jpg[/attachment:20uf3fit] Second one might be an old alarm related thing? It's a clickable button, hard to tell from the pic. DSC02259.jpg[/attachment:20uf3fit] Many thanks George
  18. *gulp* I'll just have to hope it's coming from the bits I can get to!
  19. Thanks Steve. It's the lower chain cover right?
  20. Will do. What's the best thing to clean the oil off with? And just out of interest, what are the parts I've pointed to in the pics?
  21. Sorry, forgot to say it's a VR. I'm not getting a single drop on the floor. If the oil filter was leaking I'd expect to see it on the floor wouldn't I? I suppose it could be the oil from an old leak that's been fixed as it's quite gloopy when I poke it. I have been losing a bit of oil recently though, hence the quick look around the bay. I don't think I'm burning it so the next option was a leak.
  22. Hi all, This is the part where I don my stupid hat and ask obvious questions, the main one being: What are the parts pointed to in yellow in some pics? Is it cause for serious concern and immediate attention that they seem to be covered in oil?! I know any oil isn't great, but I'm supposed to be doing a 400mile trip this weekend but don't want to take any risks. Thanks George
  23. Hi All, First gear is being a right stubborn git lately! I either have to take my foot off the clutch and back on or into third then first. There's no crunching, it just refuses to go into gear. Any ideas? Thanks George
  24. Cheers guys. I wouldn't lurk as much if I actually had something worthwhile to contribute Kev. Unfortunately my lack of knowledge means I'm more of a taker than a giver  :D
