  1. hi guys thanks for both your replys, want to vw dealers and the muppet behind desk got me the wrong sender, he has got me the guage sender instead of the ecu one. Can any1 tell me weather i can get (number 3 in the picture from motor factors or is it dealer only. The guage sender he got me was like £26.00 so am gonna take it back and either swap it for the right one or get me money back. Also can you get the thermo time switch non-gen or is that just dealer only thanks for any help thanks kenno
  2. Hi people Was hoping some 1 on here may be able to help us, i have a 1.8 16v which i have not had for long, i bought it with the intention of doing it up. Right since having the car it just does not seem to want to start from cold, my mechanic friend is doing work on it at the moment, he has done the head gasket and a few other bits fan switch, thermostat etc. This is all fitted now but he says he is having problems getting it started from cold, he said he can get it started when setting the timing really high and it will start straight away when warm. He advises getting a temperature sensor and plugs and leads. Was wandering if anyone on here knows of any other known things to go for on aswell. I cant seem to find a 16v temp sensor on GSF do they not list one thanks kenno
  3. so the bosses are the same then mate, no issues with power steering or anything, thanks
  4. Hi People Was wandering if any 1 new if a mark 1 golf cab (K 1992) after market wheel and boss would fit my Corrado 16v (J 1991). I read somewhere that the boss would not fit as rado has power steering and cab does not, is that true Thanks Kenno

    SMOKING

no mate, there aint no white residue in the oil oil filler cap area, have just this minuite took it off and checked. Strangly though i have just started car up again after it being left for a couple of hours and there was no smoke at all. BUT after approx 4-5 mins it was back with avengence. So there is a possibility it could just be this heat exchanger. And not the head gasket but then it could be both or just the headgasket . If it were the heat exchanger would it just be a case of replacing it with a new 1. Would i need any special tools to do the head gasket or would a socket set do it. I am not that mechanically minded but will give it a go

    SMOKING

so the smoke will smell quite heavy of fuel if it is the headgasket, what other signs will tell me weather its the headgasket, white residue in the oil is that headgasket. is it a big job thanks kenno

    SMOKING

Hi Hope you guys will be able to help me and give me some advise on whats causing my 1.8 16v corrado to smoke so badly. To me it seems to be overfueling as the smell from the back is just a fuel smell, and if it was oil it would smell quite bad. The car is ready for its MOT and i don`t think its gonna pass when its smoking so bad like this. Is there any thing i can adjust to stop the suspected overfueling. I have been really sad and recorded it, am not sure if you can host vids on here but will try. I read on a different post that it could be the temp switch but i have disconnected this and it made no difference, or would it no make any difference just disconnecting it Any help is appreciated Thanks Kenno
  11. just ignore me guys, i want signed in so it did not show it duh
  12. could you post this again, i can`t seem to see it, i might be blind though but could you post it again just incase i aint. i have similar problem, overfuelling accept you can actually visably see the smoke coming out the back, its not oil its definatly over fueling, any help with this would be great thanks kenno
  13. sorted it mate seems like the ignition switch was firing the starter motor but not the coil, i think thats how it works don`t it. I read somewhere on here about that. Anyway thanks for letting me no about my local vag dealer mistakenly giving me the price of the lock assembly. Thanks Kenno
  14. typed that in the same minuite mate lol thanks again, gonna try the switch and go from there
  15. jonny 5 alive thanks alot just rang vag up again, they seem to have priced me up the whole lock assembly, which was £50 quid, the switch is only £18.00 or something gonna go pick one up now as they keep them in stock, nice one thanks kenno
  16. hi mate i am gonna try the switch anyway, the part number vag gave me was 357905855 B, Was yours for a 1.8 16v thanks kenno
  17. Hi guys Think my ignition switch is faulty on my 16v corrado, got a price from vag and they want nearly £50.00, which is a joke. Found this one on ebay will it fit my car http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... AMEWA%3AIT Also if this don`t cure my problem what else do you reckon it could be, when turning key on ignition , starter motor fires but car will just not start, i pump the accelerator but still don`t fire, after doing this a few times it seems to start but only when i come to let off from the turning off the key. What i mean is when i let go of turning key as to stop it seems to fire up. Thanks for any help you can give kenno
  18. Hi guys SORTED it Thanks to both of you, kevhaywire, you were right, the spring was not pressing the bearing and thats what was knocking. It was not fitted right to the top, and was very tight and had to force the spring up towards the bearing and over the shaft itself. Greased it all up, gave it a try and knocking has stopped. Thanks again Kenno
  19. thanks for all your help mate just went back out, to have a look and to see where it was coming from, it is def the SPRING, seems to be making the noise, i videod it on my phone, but its not very good quality, can you host vids on here for download. I am gonna try greasing it but i can`t see abit of grease sorting it out, but worth a try.
  20. yes i am pretty sure the noise is coming from the lower joint area, when i turn the wheel and have a look, it seems the spring is making the noise, but i could be wrong. damn cars, one minuite everything going well then moment of truth comes and your back to square 1
  21. The coloumn i bought second hand, off a guy off ebay, sure he said it was off a j 1991, which is what mine is. The steering lock is all working fine
  22. looking at the picture there is 2 coloumns are these for early and later corrados, as i thought they were all the same the upper one has the spring (4) and some sort of holder (6) where as the lower one does not its all fitted up, but is making a right knocking going left to right, so i must of got something wrong arrrrhg
  23. Hi Yes the hook is in place, but as far as adjusting it further down to stop teeth showing, i don`t think it will go any further down, but will give it ago if they are not supposed to be showing. Only thing is the bolt that goes through, does so when the column is pushed far enough inwards to allow the bolt to go through can you host the pic again as there aint one showing thanks for your help kenno
  24. Hi there Hope some1 will ab able to help me, just been changing my steering coloumn over on my 1.8 16v corrado, as some very nice t*at decided to attempt to steal it, so they broke the coloumn, but obviously colud not get past immobiliser. Anyway, sourced a second hand coloumn and started to swap over, when reomoving old one, loosened all bolts etc, but coloumn would not pull away from lower joint, with a big pull it came off. Fitted new one, tightend everything up, then found this big spring on the floor DAMN. I assumed that it must of come off when i pulled the old one off, so i put it on between the lower joint and the coloumn. Seemed to be ok, until i turn the wheel from left to right , i now got a knocking noise. Can any1 help me and let us no if there is a spring between the joint and the coloum Thanks in advance Kenno
