Is it cos it is a Golf or does nobody have any ideas? Anyway - i've tried all i can (to my knowledge) i even programmed both my fobs to a friends car so i know my procedure and the fobs are ok, it seems to be something in the car, i have read something about comfort control unit? anyone know anything about these? Sorry it's a golf question

My Exhaust (G-Werks Stainless) is banging and clanging about and on inspection i can see the rubber hangers look old and tired. Can anyone point me in the right direction - maybe a website where i can simply click and buy? I have looked at a few sites but they list loads of sizes etc and am not sure what to buy.

I've tried a fob which is known to be working but uless i am trying to 'pair' it to my car using the wrong method - the problem lies elsewhere :(

I have a problem with my Golf (wifes), We can't remotely unlock it using the keyfobs. I think i already had 1 faulty fob - new batteries etc but no joy and i'm thinking that maybe the second key has gone the same way. While i can manually open the door with the key, the alarm sounds for 30s but then i can start the car and drive ok. I have replaced batteries in both of the fobs this morning and tried reprogramming them (one in ignition - turn on then pop the other into the door and press the unlock/lock button) but still not working. I am going to program a known good fob this afternoon to prove whether its the fobs or something more sinister. The Golf is a '98 SE ,Does anyone have any ideas? is there a way to disable the alarm while i get to the bottom of it? I can live without central locking but the horn blaring out is going to get on mine and the neighbours nerves :?

Your avatar is scaring me! It reminds me of 'The Hostel'!

I was to be honest, but with a bit of gunk and the hose pipe it's now back to normal, i bet i'm not the first and i'll certainly not be last to do it i suppose.

I spent sunday morning giving the car a good - well deserved clean, inside, outside under the bonnet. I spent ages given the engine bay a proper good clean even going to the trouble of fitting an expansion tank and washer resevoir because they looked old and grubby. A quick top up fluids and a drop of oil and i stood back to admire my work. :D Anyway i drove a few miles on the sunday and noticed a smell of fumes coming into the car which i put down to the wd40 i'd chucked everywhere. Monday morning and i drove the car to work and noticed some new noises (whining and grinding :? ) Once i got to work i popped the bonnet up - OIL EVERYWHERE!! :x , some daft sod had left his filler cap off spraying oil everywhere, in fact there was virtually no oil left in the engine. Gutted! The worse part was i have been parking on a neighbours drive (blockpaved) - you can imagine his comments when he came home

A friend was looking over my car the other day and asked if it has an active rear spoiler to whichich i said yes. He reckoned it's not a 16v cos they never had active rear spoilers??? As far as know all C's had active spoilers but is that right? Did the early valvers not have them?? Can anyone settle the dispute??

The battery could give you a reading of 12.3v but still give you problems when starting, i had similar problems, although the starter turned the engine it wouldn't start, charged(eventually replaced) the battery and all was well. I had 12v but this dropped to around 5v when cranking the engine. Good luck

And, say, hyperthetically speaking one wanted to buy one, where would one be advised to go?

No, i put a new one on,Jim, i'll get a new cap too and then re-fill the system, and keep my fingers crossed.

To be honest I don't think I'll be trying to disable the tracker, it's just nice to know that they haven't got the upper hand and we can disable it if required. What the tracker can't tell the company is the fact that we just have an extended dinner time break to compensate :D

The cap is black which i presume isn't as good as a blue one?

I had a 60 mile drive last night and was doing around 80mph most of the way, when i reached my destination i noticed steam coming out of the bonnet and the water warning light came on, i hadn't noticed the gauge creaping up though. Water was coming out of expansion tank so i left it for a couple of hours, i filled it up( mainly water) and a litre of antifreeze and drove it the 60 miles home with no problems with the temp staying around 90. I changed the bypass valve a few weeks ago and must admit i hadn't checked the water level since topping it up then, could it have been that the water was low and what was in there couldn't cope and overheated? I would have thought the warning light would have come on to warn me of low water before though? Could it have been an airlock? I am going to flush the system at the weekend and re-fill, what is the best anti freeze to use and what percentage, and what is the best method to re - fill, i normally fill in the expansion tank with the engine running and heater set to highest?? Cheers

The company i work for have just fitted trackers to our vans - purely for tax reason of course! I think i know the answer but does anyone have one fitted and have any known weaknesses -like a big hammer? Or have I got to start putting a full week in?

I had a Vectra (it was very cheap!!)with factory fitted LPG, the nozzle was mounted just behind the petrol flap. on a retro fit system where is the nozzle fitted? Is it/can it be mounted in the boot say so it doesn't spoil the C's lines? There's loads of places about now, you can download a POI file for tom tom to flag up LPG forecourts too.

Got the stuff yesterday, i wont get chance to try itnow till the weekend though.

Just where the pipes pass through the bulkhead there's a metal bodied device with (i think) three pipes going to it, i got mine from a main dealer for around £30 i think Herons in Newark have them in stock, took 5 mins to change it.
