Also the clean engine business has started. We are seeing small capacity turbo engines turning up like the 206 Gti and mini cooper collaboration. Its a very small start but that how it always starts. Think the diesel revolution. Im all for this but not at the expense of exotica which make my day just seeing.

And why dont greenpeace use sailing boats to patrol the worlds seas? Must use alot of tractor farmed rape seed oil to power there ships!

They have got to scrap car tax as a one off payment and instead add it to the price of petrol. That way there is a sliding scale of who pays what according to what you drive. Choose a range rover, Pay lots, Fiesta, pay little. It also means you cannot avoid paying road tax because you cannot not buy petrol. Also getting shot of the sorn declaration. Also if you pay all these yearly taxes on your car you would use it over buses and trains because you have paid for a year so you use it for a year. If I could leave my car on my drive and take a train into the city knowing that im paying no road fund license I would feel im not wasting money.

Paying exactly for the miles you use.

All this is based on trusting the oil giants to account for the extra tax they would have to collect and hand over. Never going to happen. The least trustworthy people on the planet!

Does not help you but the 305mm brembo discs are 120 quid all in for a pair at seat. Bargain

Have you seen the trailer for the follow up to "life on mars". The cops got an 80s audi 100. He says "fire up the quattro" in a manor only he can. If I had yours id be saying it every time. Going out for milk. "FIRE UP THE QUATTRO"

If a sump and gasket costs so much get yourself a mk4 alloy number as you dont need the gasket and it is baffled. Also holds an extra litre of oil which helps with cooling and oil life. You need to find out which one does not have a sensor hole in the bottom though and you need new longer bolts. Stole mine off the bay for 10 quid. Never laughed so much. :lol:

When you say the rear subframe bolts, does the mean you have removed the alloy gearbox mount extension thingy. Wish I had pics. The bit that connects the gearbox to the mount itself. Only 3 long bolts and I also found it advantageous to jack the engine up by several inches to get the diff out from between the engine and subframe. It still is a pig though and worse putting it back in.

Might be pointing out the obvious but you are using a vr expansion tank and not the early car one. Vr tanks are much bigger. I used a smaller round one for a while and it would spit water out when you turn the engine off. Then when you start up again the level would be to low and the light would come on.

First pull up the plastic trim around the base of the gaitor. then unscrew the gear knob anticlockwise . This should release the hole lot from the car. Now you will see that the gaitor is held on underneath by screws and the knob to gaitor is held on by a plastic ring clip. Easy

Well I had my first experience of a merc dealer in newbury. Im 31 and turned up kitted out in scruffy clothes. They treated me awsomely well. The lady receptionist grabbed me straight away and was overly lovely. The salesman got me a tea and was not up his own rectum so I purchased a car for a friend from them. Others take note.

Get yourself into the 3 litre dirty diesel version. Bet the torque monster shifts whilst being smooth at the same time.

Been looking at a 9-5 for myself as a daily workhorse. Lots of car for the money. Plus if its a late car you would think they would have worked all the faults out of it. It is different in a good way. Also its still one of the safest cars on the road today. I argued at a merc garage about which car got 5 stars in the euro ncap test. S class merc or a saab 9-5. Either way it gives you good odds in a smash. Also some diesels come with a programmable aux heater so no more cold car mornings. Look out for lcd readouts going wrong. happened to just about all or them.
