  1. am i right in thinking the expansion tank is the right place to top up the coolant? what's that odd button thingy in the top of it for (under the cap)?
  2. thought it might be for the dash though i was hoping it was a wonder cure!!! earlier i reset it while the engine was warm then drove along like a granny, out of town and i managed to get it to read 27mpg!!!! that's a record!
  3. will do, cheers. what does it do?
  4. it's a part made flamer kit! if i extend one HT lead to the plug in the exhaust, i reckon it'll ignite the unburnt fuel a treat!!!! kerbooooom! ;)
  5. are the GSF ones bad then? i thought about changing the rear disks but to be honest, they only have a very very small amount of wear and are in tip top condition with none of the usual corrosion from the edges etc so i'll leave them, unless the bearings are a real pig to get out! the car doesn't have ABS, which is a pity as it's not just a pure performance machine and does 95% of its milage with the kids on board.
  6. that's one less thing to worry about then! that also explains the spark plug in the lambda probe hole in the exhuast!
  7. before i start, on a weekend, when everywhere is closed, does anyone have any ponters for changine the rear wheel bearings? i have a pair of full kits from gsf and a garage full of tools but have never played with the rear of the corrado!
  8. i have it on mine and it's nice and firm and predicatable, however it was put on by the prevous owner 100 miles before i bought the car so have no idea what the standard stuff feels like!
  9. my throttle cable is now very sticky (unsuprising considering the RHD routing!). where is cheap to get them and will a 16v golf one fit? gsf don't list them...
  10. update: i have the tracking and tyres all sorted now but the economy is still very poor. the milometer is still not working (bits on the way!) but jusding on £ per week compares to previous cars, it's at best doing low 20's to the gallon. this is similar to the 192 bhp bmw 525i sport it replaced and that went due to economy! something someone mentioned to me... does the 16V engine have a lambda sensor in the exhaust?
  11. that's not bad! for the time being it's not causing much of a problem... i have noticed that hard braking downhill will sometimes provoke it to cut out and sometimes, blipping the throttle in neutral will sort it out. in the mean time the other problems have taken priority for anything that needs my money so i'm going to 'survey' the problem a while longer and see if it fixes itself!
  12. £106 + vat from gsf for a new one! ouch! anyone know if it's the same as a 16V golf item?
  13. the assistance loss it completely random, wet or dry, hot or cold. it sometimes cuts out on a drive then cuts back in. i may change the fluid at the weekend to see if that helps but i can't imagine it being that... incidentally, i now have the rack centred up and the tracking done with some new tyres on and the problem is still the same
  14. i'll have a look at mine later or tomorrow. maybe it could be modified to work at a proportionally higher (30%) ratio?
  15. mine is fooking hard now too! it can be adjusted i suspect but to be honest, a handbrake turn is not the best way of doing an emergency stop!
  16. the height of the suspension is changed by the load on it. the idea is that if you have a full tank of fuel, a boot full of shopping and 2 lardy mates in the back, the suspension drops. this drop moves the linkage of the bias valve which increases the line pressure on the rear brakes, keeping the bias correctly in proportion with the weight distribution of the car. the problem being when a car is lowered and the valve isn't reset, the valve 'thinks' there is 40mm worth of weight in the rear of the car and increases the pressure. the nett result being me locking the rear up very easily. resetting the valve should cure it. hth!
  17. thought that might be the case! how can i reset it? is it adjustable?
  18. i'd be interested in this too! call me lazy but after a string of bmw's, poverty handles are a actually quite annoying! i never used to mind but i've been spoilt of late!
  19. when i bought my corrado, it was lowered by 40mm on a brank new weitec (sp?) suspension kit. earlier while having a familiarising thrash, i noticed the brakes seem rather rear biased. is there a load sensing valve on these beasts that needs resetting?
  20. i have a wierd fault on the pas... the story so far: when we bought the car, the previous owner said it had this intermittent fault on the pas whereby it just cuts out sometimes. when we got the car home, we found there was no pas belt fitted! i assumed the belt must have been on the way out and broken so i fitted a new one and hey-presto, pas was returned! alas, it now seems the fault is something else... the pas belt is fine (less than a week old still) but every now and then, the pas simply cuts out. there doesn't seem to be any specific way of prompting this and it isn't engine rev or road speed dependant. the pas belt is fine and correctly tesnioned and the pas fluid is topped up. there isn't any of the usual gridding noises that come with a stuffed pas pump either. any ideas? the only thing i can think of is that it may be related to the tracking being well out at the moment, maybe overloading the system?
  21. hehe! the tyres were bad when we bought it but are now screwed!!! the plan for this weekend is to fit one new track rod end (the other is new), both new bottom swivels and both rear wheel bearings (loose and noisy!) then get the tracking done finally once. then some new tyres that aren't cone shaped! that should help things along a bit! should handle a bit better once it's done too! Corrado16ved, pm on it's way! edit... for some odd reason the forum is putting my post before the next two...

it would be cool if you could look! i'll get some pics of the headlining up on here once i've tidied the car up a bit and started enjoying it! it's causing me grief at present!
  23. my current fuel economy and a few technical issues kept me away from there... bah! (pas wasn't working, tracking waaaaaay out, etc etc) was it good?
