  1. i may call dibs on that if i decide to go for a non oem pulley. how much do you want for it posted? lol, interesting comments guys :) , i dont mean to be a killjoy but i just need to know whether anyone has any experience running one on a vr6? im not looking for performance, im running a standard 90k block (with arp rod bolts - thats all ive done to it) standard flywheel but i may shave a kg off of it in the near future. i just want a solution to my belt squeak, everything has been replaced in the line but the squeak came back. the bloke who sold me the engine craned it up on the crank pulley and the gearbox, hence why its squeaking,i think its damaged the ribs slightly with all tht weight causing very quick belt wear (this is the last thing it can be! trust me  ). the details of this are in one of my other threads. please advise :confused4:
  2. is anyone using an aftermarket lightweight/alloy crank pulley? if so what do they run like in general and without the damper? i need to replace my crank pulley as i suspect it is damaged and causing my belt squeak, vw sell the oem one for £240+ vat, mjm autohaus $299 which is better but the alloy ones are much cheaper still. can anyone help? id like to use a genuine one but money is tight now and i have to fund a budget turbo project. TIA
  3. looks awesome :D looking forward to the day when its on the road
  4. they are both lovely cars, mine already has the number plate hole filled (stuck my plate back there though :cuckoo: ) really like the 16vt, its defintely got the colours going for it, red with a black grille goes better than most. its whether all black is too much. ive got 2 bumpers so can go back, just working out whether its worth the effort though can i tell me one thing, you guys just paint the divider black behind the headlight glass? the lenses arent tinted aswell?? i prefer them to mine.
  5. :salute: will do. where about are you located hereford or bulford? bulford is only salisbury way, if you werent too busy one day i'd love to see this r32, if your down salisbury way mind
  6. cheers dude, wish it could be completed in the same amount of time as yours, never gonna happen though :) are you counting down the days for yours yet? :D lol, that made me laugh :) was very tempted to start a shed/workshop thread, wasnt too sure if it would get many replies

    VR serp belt squeak

let try again. sorry to the mods, honest mistake the second time around the squeak is back! the story so far..... originally i used a dayco belt which squeeked from day one (brand new), would only stop if i used talc powder or silicone spray etc. that would last about 5 mins, so not an answer. got rid of that belt and used a 5mm shorter 6 ribbed belt, the squeek disappeared for a few days then came back. each time it came back after treating the belt the squeek would be unbearable and constant, getting worse as the revs were up'ed (again the treatment would last about 5mins) i called it a day about a month ago and bought a genuine vw belt, installed it, the squeek went again, but it took about 3weeks before it started showing its head again, it has got worse over the week, now i cant drive the car. what should i do???? it sounds like the belt is slipping on the crank pulley as it did before, water pump, aux tens, power steering and alt are new. the noise goes when i put talc powder or spray on the ribbed side of the belt anywhere in the line. its not a bearing noise or wobbly pulley, its definately belt slip of some sort. the tensioner is tensioning as it should, i cant get my head round this one, the squeek vanished for miles and miles, then came back!?? its not get overly damp or wet either, tbh, it rained more when the squeek had vanished. would buying a new crank pulley, or possibly a lightweight alloy one be a solution? has anyone else even experienced this? if the nosie doesnt stop soon therell be a nice shiney vr up for sale it driving me up the wall!!!

  18. sorry if this is a silly question im not too clued up on brake upgrades. after having a ride in marcus's vrt ive decided i have to go this route so an upgrade will be nessessary can i run 4 pot brakes with my bbs rm's? i really would like to keep these wheels. im using 2.0l 16v hubs and carriers at the mo with my 280's on a 4 stud pattern, not 5. if i can what do i need? im assuming a couple of spacers if its possible. ive been looking at 312's
  19. cheers guys i know, kinda wish i'd held out and bought some different ones. on day one after fitting the rm's i had to sort my power steering out, after i drove away i could see i'd left half the tyres on the road, they are mega soft unless your getting your hands on a solid, silly money vr i would advise you to really consider the vr conversion, if i hadnt been pretty much given a vr for free i know exactly what would be in there now.........ends in 32 :) dont get me wrong though, i love my new vr, its so smooth and sounds like a dream, but the r32 is much more refined and to say i have an r32 corrado would never fail to put a smile on my face :D the vr conversion has been confirmed with my insurance company and to with the dvla. as for the colour, black all the way for me, ill put up with the tough photo shoots
  20. so jealous :D wish i'd done this conversion now. i know who im gona be buggin if i ever decide to go this route. its all looking good so far pete :salute: what are the main issues with the r32 conversion apart from the wiring? is it pretty much a drop in? was the work done on your gearbox expensive? im considering sending mine off but have no idea on prices. keep up the good photo diary matey
  21. messing about with the camera. some abit blury unfortunately :( black cars are an ass to photograph at night

    slow response!

defintely keep us posted with this one, i think im experiencing the same sort of problem with mine, it runs great but hesitates when i put my foot down. does the cam sensor age and become weak over time or is it a case of, it works or it doesnt work? Chris, is your diagnostic cable connected up? Can't remember if we talked about it when you popped over. I've got Vag-Com if you want to take a look at it. Tom. sorry i didnt reply to this sooner tom, totally forgot. yeh if you have a spare 5mins free one weekend ill pop over. starter motors fixed now btw, the hammer treatment did it well :)
  23. once the colours sorted they'll look awesome. where did you pick the steels up from?

    VR serp belt squeak

Are you using a genuine VW belt? No, If you read the thread you will see im using a Dayco belt!, This is where the problem lies, although saying that ive run non OEM belts on lots of cars and never had a problem, seems the pulley set up on the VR is very very sensitive to belts.... No amount of cleaning, talc'ing and belt dressing will cure it. i wasted almost 30quid on belts trying to cure the squeak, i wish id just gone genuine from the beginning. i really didnt think it would make a difference, a belts a belt, how wrong i was the only thing my old dayco belt is good for now is lining the bottom of my bin
  25. looking good bill :salute: the bench looks spot on! anymore pictures with the interior installed?
