quick update, took the car out and at first she overheated, so turned on the heater full blast and took off the filler cap to get rid of the air lock.....toped her back up and been fine since, holding temp and fan kicking in when needed......result !!! thanks guys for the encouragement to do it myself and all the advice, suppose I just need to wait untill the next problem now......roll on the summer when I can spend more hours under the bonnet. sorted, finished job this morning, gonna give it a long run this arvo and make sure its all a ok........just to point out for others reading this thread, i did in the end manage to remove and replace rad without removing bumper and slam panel, think the full on job is probably a better way to go but if anyone has issues removing main bolts for bumper like me, then it can be done without removing it all. hope that made sense, fingers cross shes ok now, will let you know. danny

guys was just thinking, when i replace the coolant shall I mix it with the water before i fill up with water or shall I add the coolant last/first?

thanks guys, found the four main bolts to disconnect bumper and didnt have the right size spanner or socker.......dohhh......halfords is to far to walk. So did the job with the bumper in place.....havent quite finished it the sun beat me this evening, just need to get the new rad in position (cant quite get it to line back up) and wedge the fan back in place......watch this space. danny

sounds simple enough, will give it a go in the next few weeks and let you know how I get on with it. :D

cool that sounds easy....although as with everything mechanical I will hold judgement till I finish the job......dont mind doing it myself its just finding the time. the only bit I would probably need advice on would be how to bleed the system properly at the end ?? I removed a rad once on a 306 diesel (not mine) and getting the air out of that system required a few choice techniques.

thanks guys for the replys, was thinking of getting done by The Firm after xmas......do you reakon I m ok to drive on it for a bit and keep topping up, or is that a sure way to overheating and new head gasket territory......what I mean is it possible it will just go bang soon and empty water everywhere while running ??

yeah i have heard similar scare stories of rad weld.....and hearing what some of you have said maybe best to avoid and take the inevitable on the chin and replace rad !!!! DOH !!! anyone know how much they are ?

Alrite guys, got a bit of a problem.......couple of days ago steam started to sporadically drift from the radiator from my VR6 when standing still in traffic, so today I had a look around and found my rad spraying two tiny jets of water from the top......problem found my thinks. has anyone got any suggestions of the best way to deal with problem....guessing somthing like rad weld ??? has anyone used it and if so any sugestions on the best way to apply, i.e. should i be draining the whole system, or a better product ?? if you havent got a valve but the system is closed,i.e. theres a black hose replacing the valve, then you probably wont feel any difference....however, if your system is open to the elements like myn was when the valve was broken, then a new one should make the engine feel better.

sorry when i say take the whole thing off i just mean the black rubber, which from what i can understand shouldnt do no harm?

rite this is the bit that i got confused on the other threads, when i say take them off i mean the whole black rubber bits, not the black plastic strips........ someone else was talking about inside edges last time aswell ???.....

I know there has been a few threads on the matter, but i kinda just want to get a difinitive answer.....can i rip off the perished rubber seals on the roof strips of my C.....i dont really want to folk out for new ones and i think they will look just as good without them as they are well buggered.....I read somewhere that taking them off will not cause any problems,i.e. water leaks, but they must be there for something or is it just for looks. alternatively has anyone taken the rubbers off and then replaced with black silicone sealent ???

looked like someone had tried to super glue it before so thought trying again wouldnt be the best....bought new one from ford (£24) and actually makes quite abit of difference to performance (felt quite flat when broken), possibly has something to do with the fact that without it the MAF has an extra air feed and thus probably confuses fueling......so quite pleased i got a new one now.
