Cheers for the tip. I'll hunt some down. Got to drive it from Cumbria to Hampshire soon so I can have it at work, i'll get the oil (the one you reccommended) &filter changed beforehand & see how it goes.

In light of my recent 'smokey 1.8' thread, I feel this is very appropriate. Especially as the oil i've been using in my car has the viscosity of water. Maybe thinner than water come to think of it. Helpful. Cheers

No i've started it up from cold specifically to sit behind it until it gets up to the usual point and there was no smoke whatsoever. Would the stem seals be a costly fix?

Hehe. Cheers! I thought it had a bit of innuendo at first but I found out recently that it hasn't at all, and is in fact a musical term :( I'm not usually into the rice-ization of a Dub, but I have to do some tinkering. I'm used to bikes, so need to squeeze every last ounce of available power from a car, seeing as it'll be a while 'till I can afford a bike.

Been using havoline lately, it has been a while since I drove the car so I can't quite remember what grade I was using, I do remember it being very cheap though. I know the oil is a bit crap for the car, I wouldn't have thought it would make it smoke so much though. Do you think it's happening due to the less viscous type of oil i'm using?

Another problem, please bear with me. My 1.8 seems to churn out blue smoke when the engine reaches a certain temperature, usually around the 80 degrees c mark. The fan's in good working order, but the same seems to happen when I floor it. It's using around a liter of oil every 800/1000 miles with heavy use of the right foot. Cruising, it's alot happier. Would this be a piston ring problem? Inside the mill smells fine, and no milky residue popping up, the plugs haven't got the dreaded white/black residue on them but there is signs of arcing in the distributor cap. Please, help. It's embarassing when I look in my mirror in a traffic jam and not being able to see the car behind for bloody smoke! :?

Mucho gracias, I'll check the google tomorrow after work. I'm off to bed!

Going to pot unless i'm mistaken!

Have you got a link to a site? I might make a shift from Pipercross if it looks the part 8)

Hmm. This is just my opinion but 0-60 times don't really come into play. Say for instance, i'd have a vr6 for the torque, and the 1.8 with a chip fitted for the accelleration and hooning around. The v6 is the car for lazy speeding, put your foot down in fourth at 40mph and it'll feel alot more special than the Alfa, whilst it may feel a bit sluggish off the mark compared to the 1.8 with a few engine mods. But with the 1.8 you won't get the torque and you'll have to work the engine like hell to get speed up. If you catch me drift. I've simply chipped my 1.8 and the 0-60 is under 8 secs. Also it looks a bit stupid but I have 15 inch wheels too, adding to the accelleration. The handling is sublime on both models though! And i'm sure that you won't be disappointed with whatever choice you make, just think about the fuel bill on the vr6 ;)

Indeed it is the vis kit, my friend back home has one on his vr6 and is a really good piece of kit, boosts the torque by 'quite a noticeable margin' apparently. Unfortunately these can't be bought for the 1.8 because of the K jet system on top of the air boxaccording to the kindly chap at Pipercross today. Item number PK223 is the only thing they sell for the 1.8 which is a foam replacement for the bottom half of the airbox. I'll have to settle for that. I could look at another air filter manufacturer but i've had Pipercross on all my bikes and wouldn't go for anything else really

their good for 140mph gets a bit twitch going along a long bend after that. tbh they behave better when going round bends has the tyre twists a little and i have more of the tyre face touching the ground. because of the stretch and canber i have one groove of thread either side (inner and outer) not even touching the ground. so tyres still have bobbles on them after a year ;) better pic showing some stretch (courtesy of bristolbaron) (bet the purists are gonna love this post) That is, and I use my words as eloquently as possible, fucking insane! Awesome work there, you must have balls the size of cantaloupe melons giving it stick on those stretches. Any pics of ground-down rims after that corner? The future is looking bright 8)

Powerflow full system, with cat. Sounds really, really nice on my 1.8 without being too obtrusive. Just a medium loud, fruity burble on idle but it wails beautifully when I give it some stick. Sweet exhaust

Hi all, just a quick question about fitting a pipercross viper kit, or for argument's sake, any run of the mill induction kit onto the lung of a 1.8 Corrado. will there be problems fitting such a part? Seeing as there is a plethora of breathers and a fuel rail feeding directly onto the top of the airbox, it seems to me that these will have to remain in place? I'll be grateful for any advice thrown my way as I wouldn't mind a little bit of extra torque, even if it's just a few ft/lbs. Am I being a bit of a dumbass? I am usually one for not being able to see the woods for the trees.... :(

Hi there, I believe I can help. I own a 1.8 16v and the thing beeps at me pretty much every time I drive it. If the oil's just under a certain point in the mill then the oil warning thing beeps constantly. It does not necessarily mean you're low on oil, it's just a little annoying fault. That is, until I hit the dashboard really hard with the palm of my hand. If you give it a real hard smack (and put some passion into it) about halfway between the steering wheel and the windscreen it will stop! Simple fix, cheap, and works every time!

Hi. Just a quickie, wiondering if anyone here has their tyres stretched (so to fit under arches when seriously dropped- for the uninitiated, if there is such a thing on this forum) and if so, do you not fear for your life when you
