    Head work

You should think about getting the followers done, and a new thermostate and obviously new coolant g12 and new oil filter - oil, Try and use a VW headset, I know for my VR it cost 75 quid or thereabouts. New head bolts or even go for competition head bolts. You nned also to consider the fitting of all that includes the labour, the tensioners if you have any on the G60. You can always get the valves polished if you getting the head ported and polished. New cam belt, you may as well do all these bits whilst the head is off, more money to outlay but cheaper in the long run. Other than that, new plugs, leeds and filters all round is what I had done when my head was leeking. The difference you notice when you get the car back is a much crisper engine, better pick up and gererally quieter and when everything is new and cooling properly etc you enjoy driving it more. Good luck mate! I let Jogn Mitchell do mine, it took him a week to do as I didnt want him to rush the job so he could take his time and do things properly. He took the head off in one evening and dismantled everything so hes a quick worker and his labour is around £35 an hour. He also gives a forum discount, however, he just did a few extras for me free of charge. He is also good with doing other bits as he goes along,or eevn just tidies little bits up and washess and hoovers your car so you cant complain. I would use him or someone like that mate!
  2. The screws are on the inside of the tailgate at the bottom where the black trim is!!
  3. The screws only turn a quarter of the way and are un done and the same as putting them back in! I used double sided sticky tape to secure my plates even more, I dont like numper plates being screwd on through th eplastic, it looks smoother and cleaner to not see any holes and the letters on the plate look better IMO.
  4. Being in the car trade - your best bet would be IMO to walk. All they want to do to this car is getting it cooling and heating properly. They are only likely to replace the bits that need doing, rather than if it was our car, our mechanic would say, '' well that is going to need doing, and we may aswell do it with the head off''. This guy will not do everything and may use non VW parts to save money. This guy, if he the chap just off thr roundabout and has a small office and little showroom at the back then I would stay well away!! I went down there with a friend in my Jetta when I was 17teen, I saw there a silver G60 for around 8 grand, we took it for a test drive and all seemed OK. I then said, I need a bit of time to think about it as I needed more money for my Jetta to what he was offering as part of my P / X. I had someone from Bournemouth wanting to buy my car, and he was calling me and I had a chat with him whilst I was in the office, and he said, '' GET OFF YOUR PHONE''! I said, '' excuse me'', he then walked to his fron t door and obstructed us from going! He thought that there were 2 yound guys just taking him for a ride and he made me worried untill my friend piped up. The guy was implying I said I would buy the car after the test drive!! I mean how insane is that, so walk away mate and find yourself a nice car, which will be much cheaper as his cars are expensive. I do agree that he does get some nice Corrados in, but dealers have at least a grand in on the profit if not much more. You can take your own waranty out with Warranty Holdings, who are one of the largest waranty firms in Europe, there are different levels of cover and I can get you signed up to this for peace of mind, or for anyone as I deal with one of the reps. If you were to buy this car, I would say in the even of this engine failure, you should let me have the car at Xxxx price, obviously give a much cheaper price than he asking, if he says no, then say you will put his car on th enternet and tell everyone what has happened!! Then you have got him in a corner, just like he had me!! Dont ever fear these traders, just put your foot down, they will not loose money on a car and you know when he doesnt want to do the deal as he will tell you straight to forget it!
  5. I remember the day when me and my mate went to Portsmouth from Bournemouth! I had 7 grand in my jean pockets and off we went in the train to see a trader guy in south sea! As soon as we got off in Portsmouth, there the car was, straight away I though Yes, nice! My mate was going through the paper work and checking that all adds up, I took it for a test drive, I was driving it carefully and to cut a long story short, I got the car for 6 grand and really pissed the dealer off, he wanted more and we spend nearly 4 hours with him!! On the way home I said to my mate james, wait for her to reach 4 thousand revs, then planted my foot and we were both so excited!! I remember it like it was yesterday! Plus we were in a built up area and the car felt even quicker with parked cars either saide! I know its dangerous but I was 18 teen at the time and just bought the car of my dreams ever since I was 12 years old! Anyone else want to share their happy experience with us?? By the way, this is Rams, I logged out and cant get back in so had to re register! I should have that sorted tomorrow!
