  1. vw do break down and so do audis big style - know what you mean - but gti mk1 is easy to fix whereas corrados are more complex..............and audis are like - open the bonnet and what do you do? don't wish to fall out just was giving opinion on pugs - I have C vr6 Audi S3 and gti mk1 - love them all - but as you say they need tlc as does every car

My last Corrado 1.8 16valve did 156bhp on Stealth rolling road (ask Vince it is on his computer) and was standard with everything sorted - so yours has definitely a simple problem - sort it and you will love it - if not tell me how much you want for it - where you are etc - I don't know how much you paid but if its low mileage as you say I am interested My curent C VR6 does 223 bhp - and is enormously quick - as for pugs I wouldn't give them house room - crap cars - stick to vw mate you will have more friends I also have a mk1 golf gti which is immaculate and goes like stink - will beat a pug all day long
  4. 16valves hit the cams at 4000 rpm then you get the power up to nearly 7000 rpm - I think you have a throttle problem as well as fuelling - 3 degrees out on timing would not give symptons you describe - sell me the car and I'll sort it!

  6. went to psi last saturday he has just sorted my mk1 golf gti and has done another 24v conversion into a c vr6 which looks like it came out of the factory like it -- absolutely immense!! The owner is absolutely very happy and the car sounds fantastic
  7. hydraulick tappets can become noisy with age - its not a disaster but you may need a head rebuild at some point - if it drives ok leave

I may be utterly totally wrong but here goes The lift pump in the tank feeds fuel to the reservoir housing the main (pressure) fuel pump If the lift pump fails the main pump is working overtime trying to fuel the engine and will eventually become noisy as it is lubricated by fuel - and will fail The car will die as it is starved of fuel and pick up again when the pressure is back - but full pressure will not be maintained - hence no power The symptoms you describe are very similar to my old Golf So, I think, and I stand to be corrected by other members, that either the lift pump has failed or the main pump is on its way out, the lift pump is the cheaper option.........but I suggest you get it tested before throwing money at it......the simplest things can cause the biggest headaches
  9. just one other thought I am not sure whether the 16v C has a fuel lift pump in the tank as per a 8v Digifant but if it does they are £25 about and fairly easy to replace my mk2 golf digifant did exactly how you describe and the lift pump failure starved the main pressure pump of petrol I replaced the main pump twice (at great expense) before I reallised the lift pump had failed does the pump make a whining sound under the car ?
  10. the mfa can be quite misleading on older cars more likely to be a fuelling issue as in fuel pump on its way out and not delivering pressure when needed if you think about a carb with a semi blocked jet ? similar symptons also, check every vacuum hose a good local independent vw garage should be able to sort this for you as its not like current cars that are computerised hope that makes sence Stealth are good and will sort it if you can get up there - Vince can also give it a rolling road session to get it spot on fuel pumps are not cheap!
  11. I've had severall 16v vw cars that have done this - when you put your foot down does it seem to die? If so could be fuel pump either main or auxilary in the tank - not a cambelt issue unless wrecked - it has to be fuelling or an air leak.......don't throw money at it cos I bet it will be something really simple to cure..... a blocked cold air feed can give same symptons but if it is standard then no way If you get rubbish MPG could be running extremely rich but should still not be as bad as you say check all electrical connections and air hoses
  12. also I have been thinking if you want to go turbo you need forged pistons and strengthened con rods at the very least so thats an engine rebuild in itself also with lower compression ratio , and to handle the power you will need stronger diff and driveshafts cos if you don't they will break and when they do boy is that costly this applies also to supercharging to 300bhp as things break as people on this forum will no dought confirm, especially those that have blown their engines on th motorway! but if you keep to what this thread is saying you have stretched your car to its limitations without the risk of breaking it by going cams and shrick I hope that makes sense if not reply
  13. no I haven't got a bigger throttle body but appreciate what you say - its still very quick - and next mod might be that thanks my Audi S3 270bhp is not much quicker - I have a quarter mile hill near where I live and they both do 100 plus near the top how sad am I
  14. definitely speak to Andy at PSI he can put anything into anything - he has an Audi S3 into VW Caddy S4 V8 4.2 into A4 TDI like it was factory 24v into Corrado - he's doing another one now S3 into Golf Mk1 and Mk2 He services all my cars which are at present Audi S3 270bhp Corrado VR6 223 plus bhp Fully restored Golf MK1 Gti Campaign don't know bhp but has Supersprint exhaust manifold and full exhaust otherwise standar but is booked in with Andy very soon Speak to Vince also cos his engine rebuilds are second to none
  15. mine did that at 111000 milage numbers 1 and 6 cylinders were shot I think new engine or rebuild or 24v transplant speak to Andy at PSI Tuning or Vince at Stealth
  16. 223 bhp 208 lbs ft torque at 3000 to 4000 rpm on a new engine by stealth back in 2002 fully remapped chipstar and BMC filter now full Miltek exhaust and cold air feed to BMC H&R springs with Koni adjustables - well sorted brakes are pagid grooved with fast road pads probably now with 15k miles on engine pushing more than 223 bhp Very quick car -surprises the odd Porsche driver!! without turbo lag or supercharge thirst mpg excellent better than standard this is my first posting if you want to know more ask
  17. this could be your idle control unit it can fail intermitently and cause exactly the symptons you describe as you brake it won't hold idle and cuts out the engine does idle go up and down? I may be wrong but worth thinkinking about otherwise go to Stealth near Warwick
