andyzplace started following CV Joint Wear Acceptable?
-
Hi All, I'm a long time lurker following purchase of Kieran's Storm Grey VR6 back in September 2023. I've been slowly working through the standard issues you'd expect with a 30 year old Corrado (Wishbone's, drop links, track rod ends, rear beam bushes, spoiler motor mechanism overhaul, discs / pads, rear wheel bearings etc etc) I've recently been experiencing vibration over 30mph so have taken it back off the road for investigation. I assumed it was the front wheel bearings, however in removing the drivers side hub have managed to distort the threads on the outer CV joint (I used the old nut but it took a bit of a wallop to release the driveshaft splines from the hub!) As I have the driveshafts off I thought I may as well inspect the inner CV joints as it appears you can get a whole driveshaft for not much more than an outer CV assembly, although I'm sure they wont be as good as the 30 year old OEM ones, so long as they are in acceptable condition. This if the first time I've had a CV joint in pieces, so I'm not sure what level of wear is deemed 'acceptable'. The photos below show what I'm faced with. You can certainly feel some wear, however its not much. All the balls appear unmarked. If it was any other bearing I wouldn't dream of putting it back, but I'm not sure the same applies to a CV joint. Any guidance would be very much appreciated. Also, thanks to all who have managed to keep this forum running all these years. I had a Red 1.8 16v Corrado back in the day and this forum was the only place to go for reliable information. Thanks, Andy

FYI, I used the Loctite rear view mirror bonder on my campervan and have had no issues. The key is to spend time prepping / degreasing the mount / screen, follow the instructions and wait as long as possible before installing the rear view mirror to the mount.

andyzplace replied to daves16v's topic in Suppliers Forum
This is the 2nd kit I have had from you (more fool me for not doing both at the same time) and they have both fitted perfectly. Your a lifesaver mate, Cheers. -

Im confused about this too. I picked up some Borbet A's last weekend and im getting confused about tire size choice :? I had a good search last night and finally got set on some 205 / 40 / 16s all round but after reading some old topics it seems they could be dangerously narrow for the 9" rears :S Oh, and if anyone could let me know if the FK AK coilovers fit with no rubbing then that would be great cheers. (the offsets are ET15 rear and ET20 front and there going on a valver) Andy

Pioneer head unit wont remember settings :(

Can be closed now, all sorted :) Thanks for the help guys. All it takes is a little confidence :) -
The slider is the face / feet / windshield control. Cheers for the replies. Really should have realized it was bent myself  It does take a bit of force to move it so maybe ill investigate. Not sure if i would be able to achieve much anyway due to the lack of access.

Pioneer head unit wont remember settings :(

Im terrible with wiring! :( Ok, so ive got - Yellow (constant supply) connected to the red / white, Black (earth) connected to the black (i assume its normal for that to follow the ariel cable behind the dash) But im unsure of - The Blue/white which needs to be connected to the 'auto-antenna relay control terminal (max. 300 mA 12 V DC)' The Red (acc power). The Orange / White (which needs to go the the lighting terminal switch so the headunit turns the brightness down when the lights are on) The wires i have in the corrado are - Brown (thick one) Black (which i assumed was the earth) Red / White (which i assumed was the constant live) Brown / Red White with Blue stripe Blue with White stripe Sorry if this seems a bit drawn out. Im a bit of a novice when it comes to wiring and I want to make sure its right. Cheers for all the help, Andy -

Ok. I think im just going to re-wire it all as its a bit of a mess anyway. If anyone has a wiring diagram or anything to show me which wire is which in the corrado that that would help enormously. Cheers, Andy -
Haha, cheers guys. Let the yanking commence (innuendo opportunity)

I've just bought my first corrado and have decided to keep the head unit from my old golf (mk2 driver). The problem is the headunit wont 'remember' anything now (when i come to start my car every day, it goes back to the demo mode as as if its just been installed) I've tried it back in the golf and its fine so its not a problem with the head unit. If any one could shed any light I would be very grateful. Oh, the corrado has a laserline immobiliser (which the golf didnt have) if that helps. Cheers, Andy

My heater controls dont seem to be right. Should the wire / cable (blue arrow in pic) should go the hole (red arrow in pic) I had a tug on the wire / cable and it doesnt seem to come far enough out to let the slider go all the way to the left (if in the hole marked in the pic) Any help would be greatly appreciated

I need to get my glovebox out so I can drill it to run my hard drive cable through but I cant seem to get it past the dash. Ive undone the 4 screws holding it in and it moves about freely. Any help would be much appreciated :)
