Really? the 16v is supposed to get through that much oil?? 1L for every 1000 miles? wow! having said that i probably get through a bit more than that though so... But yeah there is blue smoke so i thought valve stem seals too based on comments on the forum. How difficult is it to sort? what would i have to do? Cheers

Hi All, Well I have read through all the past threads relating to this problem but I thought I would just post my own to double check my suspicions. I own a 1990 1.8 16v. The car does get through quite a bit of oil, i.e. I’m topping it up once a month. which I think is way too much. The exhaust blows blue smoke pretty much constantly. Before you ask there is no oil leak. Car drives perfectly but just blows blue smoke and likes a drink of oil. There is no mayo in the oil so I’m thinking no water is getting in there and therefore the head gasket must be fine. What do you reakon is the problem??

Im thinking of buying one of those universal fit back boxes off ebay for my '91 1.8 16v but aparently i need to know these details in order to replace the original. * The inlet diameter in mm * The outlet diameter in mm. * The length in mm does anyone know the answer to these or doesn't it mater. Will they be able to fit which ever one i choose anyway?? also has anyone any experience of these back boxes and are they any good or am i just wasting my money?? recommendations/advice welcome

Hi all, I've seem to have developed an oil leak and i was wondering if anyone knows if there should be a bolt (as arrowed on the pics) attached? Otherwise any ideas where it might most likely be coming from? Are there any common problems i should be looking for on a C engine? Cheers

well apparently my insurance is 50 quid excess but its capped at 100 quid!! Obviously the glass is gonna cost more than that. so i've had the new screen put in and instead of it costing me £50 its cost £65 without the rubber and £137 with!! So obviously i've had to have the rubber cos autoglass said they couldn't swap the screen without damaging it. But it seems they have skanked me on the price of it. So what should have cost me £50 ended up at £137 and to top it off they made a huge mess in my car, didn't put the screen in properly and after i complained they said they will ahve to put another one in for me.

Does anyone know whether it is possible to change a windscreen on a C without buying new rubber seals?? How much does the screen cost from VW, any ideas?? How much do the seals cost?? Can i get away with using the old seals?

Cheers Henny, Star man! Thought as much. Shall have to go a huntin' then me thinks. How annoying!!

How hard is it to change a Rotar Arm on a 1.8 16v!!! Jesus, I had to completely crumble the thing into about 1000 pieces with pliers to remove it. Has anyone else had this problem?? Every other car i've had it has been a simple swap. The old rotar just pulls off and on goes the new one. Was i missing something and was it glued on?? Why would anyone glue it on?? Unfortunately in the process, the little black plastic ring (which i'm assuming is the distributer O ring) inside the dizzy cap which sits behind the rotar arm just vanished in the wind!! ARrrrggh How important is this piece of plastic and where can i get another one?? Cheers

Cheers Rack i'll give it a go then. Ps if anyone knows for definite let me know.

This is a K+N replacement panel filter though, not an induction kit so does the same apply? Will the panel filter still not fit my 16v??
-
mods....anyone. someone must be able to give me a yes or a no Any ideas??
-
My mate is giving me his old K+N filter off his g60. Just wondering will it fit my 16v?? Its a H plate 91 Bosch K-jet etc etc if thats any help.

So Gav is that non synthetic 10 40 you're putting in then?? Do they do no synthetic 10 40? What viscosity was/is the old blue synta oil??
-
well sometimes i get a bit of a lead foot but i rarely redline it. Seriously i dont boot it everywhere so i dont think it should use this much. But i do feel its nothing serious but I use 10w 40 semi synthetic oil and one of my mates suggested putting in a slightly thicker oil to slow down its consumption. I didn't think this was a great idea, what does anyone think?

I do about 1000 miles a month so about average. How many litres per 1000 miles should it go through?
-
Hi all, Right my problem is my engine seems to be going through oil at a serious rate of knots. I read somewhere that the 1816v engine (think mines a KR) is supposed to burn oil off a bit?? is this right? But mine seems to get through about a bottle a month!! That seems like way too much. Whats everyone think? On the other hand the car runs sweet as a nut, drives like new and has no leaks whatsoever. I'm confused. Any ideas?? Cheers.

It could be your vehicle speed sensor on top of the transmission. In case no-one has mentioned that. I just fitted one. Dead quick and easy. £20 from VW and cured the problem.
-
Very sorry my friend, i stand corrected. Never had a ride in one you see, however i bet it cost you a few thousand and the car was off the road for quite a long time? I simply wouldnt be able to afford this unfortunately.
-
cheers guys, i'll check it out but i reakon it'll be too much hassle and expense for little cost effective gain. Reakon i'll wait and save up for a VR6 or look around again for a for a decent g60. The reason i bought the 16v was because all the g60's i looked at were nails. my 16v is a great car but i want a little bit more power now.
-
How hard is it to add a charger to a standard 16v? Who can do it? How much? I assume the engines are the same?
-
come on, someone must know how to do this easily on a C. I have seen a DIY job on a pug 205gti and i cant imagine it being much different to this. check http://www.205gti.com/main_uk.htm then click in the left nav menu, "peugeot 205 techincs" and then "quickshift" I need to know too!!

by the way, if/when i upgrade to a component set, should i upgrade the speaker wire?? Actually should i do this anyway? I've heard this can make a huge improvement.
-
Well what i think i'll do then is try the 6x9s for a while and then when i get some spare cash invest in a decent component set. I think im gonna build myself a shelf so that i dont wreck the original. Cheers
-
Hi all, How difficult is it to change the stock speakers in the dash and what size speakers are fitted in there as standard? I've just bought a set of 6x9's for the parcel shelf and some 5.25's for the doors so i wondered whether it might be worth changing the ones in the dash too. Secondly how would they be wired to the head unit if there are only 2 ouputs for the front and 2 for the back from the headunit? Should the door and dash speakers be wired into the same outputs on the head unit (considering i dont have an amp) or is this a bad idea??
