Pat As per previous post I'm running the exact same Gamma iv in a couple of cars. Best solution I found was from 98 or so b5 passat which ran Gamma iv (red iso 10 pin) with boot mounted cd changer. I used the cable to power standard gamma in dash 6cd from a golf mkiv - you have to tap in to additional live feed at the head unit but straightforward. I found most vw audi skoda etc have the same connector at the cd changer. Btw drop me a pm if you still have spare gamma iv's.

Just to give a different view, I run a 2.0t 9-5 estate as a daily as well as a vr6 corrado and a mk2 gti. Of course it doesn't handle as well as the corrado but it's pretty composed overall and comfortable over long distances - seats and sound system are excellent as is refinement. Performance is pretty good too with a stage 1 remap to 225bhp for a lot less than the vag folks charge and still gives 30+ per gallon. Points to watch are engine sludging ( drop the sump and clean out the oil pickup for peace of mind - updated pcv sytem advisable) front arb drop links ( £20 a pair and 30 mins to change) and DI cassettes which can fail. I change the oil (fully synth £20 from Asda) and filter (£5 from dealer or eBay) every 6k miles as I do on my vag motors. Overall a lot of car for the money and a bit different from the norm - just make sure you drop the sump and run it on fully synth.

I run Gamma IV's in my Golf mk2 and my C. I use glovebox cd changers for both - one is a Sony cdx t69 with a Connects 2 adaptor and the other is the vw single din in dash changer connected using a cable from a 98 Passat found at a breakers. The Passat cable was for a boot mount changer but I cut it down and soldered the connections. Both work well but I prefer the vw option as there's less wiring and no converter box to hide.

Btw this also failed the temp gauge as the strip bent so much it disengaged from the needle
-
Hope this helps - I had a similar problem on my VR6 - coolant light flashing when oil temp was normal and no other signs of overheating. After replacing the sensor and testing out the wiring it turned out to be the temp gauge itself was faulty. The little metal strip that moves the needle looked burnt and was operating ok at lower temps but shooting up to beyond max at normal temp and triggering the light as well. Replacement temp gauge from passat cluster solved it for me.

Sorted now - thanks for the responses.

I need an electric auxiliary water pump for a 92 VR6 - Anybody got one for sale? Cheers

Thanks Useful to know about the cable ends. I've also got a golf double din fascia in the garage plus my old centre console insert - looks do-able and has got me thinking about the skoda in dash 6 cd I've got lying around! Anybody done the double din dash?

Been looking at ways to improve the illumination and reliability of my late version heater controls. Thinking of using octavia version (keep the green lighting) of the golf 4 rotaries with a golf trim panel slotted into the normal mounting points on the c. Anybody tried this?

Hello Anybody know if you can buy the special bolt that secures the handbrake return spring to the caliper? With the death of Vagcat.com can't check for myself. I'd just finished the annual stripdown, free off and adjust when I sheared mine. Thanks for the help.

Thanks agin for the info, particularly about the foam blocks. I checked a spare surround in the garage and it has two thin strips of felt front and back but no foam or any witness marks where it might have been. Looks like I need to find some suitable strong foam - might stick some around the centre console whilst I'm about it!

Thanks for all the input folks. looks like I'll be taking the "live with it" option then - at least until I summon up the courage to buy and try to fit air con.
