  1. Hi I'm after a VR6 airbox. I just want the box, don't need the MAF or anything like that. Thanks in advance!!! Mike
  2. I'm not going to hit it with a hammer ha ha sorry I'm going to get onto the insurance and see about getting it inspected. Some of these chips are a mm or so deep so not just a cosmetic issue imho
  3. New owner looks over the moon! I had this a few weeks ago when I sold my Mk2 Golf... I watched the little video I made of it driving off, about 20 times that night :(
  4. Does the bottom LED light up when someone rings the doorbell?
  5. A good ol' list of Corrado's there mate! If you can dig out those few bits, that would be awesome! I'm likely to be at the DNE meet on Sunday... not sure if you go to them or not? Problem with the undertray bit on mine, is that some clever clogs has decided not to use the OEM self tappers to screw it back on, and has used great big thick silver DIY screws instead... so the try has warped a little from not being on quite straight or tight enough. I'm hoping the masses of VW fixing and screws I've ordered will maybe do the trick.
  6. To the casual observer, my windscreen looks fine. However what is apparent when you peer more closely at is, is that it is covered in tiny little nicks and chips in the class. We're talking pin head size up to the size of a pencil tip. From inside the car it looks like pollen or dust on the screen when very bright sunlight shines across it. How this has happened... I've no idea as the paintwork is gleaming in comparison. Now none of the chips are serious or unrepairable... but the sheer quantity of them would suggest they wouldn't be repaired. But should the screen be replaced? I WANT it replaced because of these imperfections, but does anyone know if the screen would be deemed needing replaced or not? I'd rather go through my insurance than pay myself, but I'd forgo new wheels just to get it done if I have to.
  7. It's all just daft little cosmetic bits that a previous owner has taken off and replaced with shiney expensive stuff instead... or where some cack handed buffoon has had a go at installing speakers and then used the wrong screws on trim that now doesn't quite fit right! I need: - Handbrake lever handle/grip (think I'm sorted) - VR gearknob... not sure if this is different to other Corrados? - OEM leather steering wheel, the later more concave sort? - Driver side under tray/lower dash that sits to the right of the steering column and the fuse box cover attaches too (mines a bit mishapen) - Cigarette lighter (mines loose and doesn't clip in properly) - Battery bag - Standard door pins/poppers things Mate of mine took a few snaps of the C last night by the Tyne. I turned up far too late so they're quite dark, but looks great anyway IMHO I love this one ---------- Post added at 7:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 5:33 PM ---------- I started to remove the insane ICE wiring in the car... unless I am much mistake, wiring a +ive battery feed to the + and - doesn't seem quite right? The phono leads had been cut and then taped back together... wtf? Suffice to say none of it seems to be connected to the HU (thank god) or have any purpose other than to look a mess. So out it comes. One of my radiator fans had this rattling round inside it Very thin but tough rubber with a groove in it... about the same size as the fan. Hmmm.
  8. Yes I'd love some all reds, I was going to try tinting what ever spare OEM lights I have left over... did they ever make all reds? I'm assuimg it's had paint at some point, it's got a couple of very light stone chips on the bonnet, none on the front bumper... and it feels lovely to the touch, really smooth. Doesn't look a cheap paint job if it's had one. Is the wheel in the classifieds?
  9. Thanks dude. I'm after a fair number of little bits so if you have any spares let me know. COmpared to my Mk2? Lacks the raw, edgey feel of the Mk2 when it was getting caned... but I'd say it surpasses it in every other way. I'm totally in love with it. FInally got round to giving it a half decent clean since driving it non-stop all week Nowt too intense, going to do it properly at the weekend and Jetseal it and do the tyres. Wheels are in need of some intensive love, so need to get some metal polish or something to shine them up better. I always wanted a white Corrado. Got the DLSR out and took some quickies... looks decent! B) Interior is slowly getting where I want it. Took a few bits apart last night and re-attached them properly. Ordered a ton of new trim clips, dash screws, trim screws, and plastic press rivots last night so going to start again with the trim. Seems to be a perpetual Corrado quest on the Corrado Forum to eliminate all squeaks and rattles! I'm getting there! It's such a lovely place to be in there! I could happily do massive motorway trips in total comfort - an OEM leather wheel, hand brake grip and gearknob are proving hard to find. Funny little VDO gauges - oil pressure is permanently off the scale even when stone cold so need to check the sender is correct... but probs will sell it anyway. Sideways VR6 logo'd gearknob - tries straightening it but that's how it ends up when tight  Bit tragic really. It was like gripping a burning hot coal of the BBQ after the car had been sitting in the sun today  The business end This will get a good clean, but it's in awesome shape. Just a bit dirty. I love the SWG scuttle cover, really smartens up the bay a lot...need to look after it, since seeing their price new Made a massive to-do list today - 39 things on it. Nearly all of them tiny little jobs, but I want this car to be as close to 100% as I can get it.
  10. Yeah I was used to the same thing on my various Mk2's, but this is miiiiiiiiiles off!
  11. The installation guide says to prise them off by sliding a fork under them and carefully lever them off?
  12. Ah right, I see. I've just re-read the installation guide again, and it says to 'make a note of the needles positions' before removing them? This is going to bug me something rotten if I can't fix it...
  13. Hi everyone I have noticed that when comparing the SatNav speed to my indicated speed on my speedometer, that I am overreading by approx 5mph at 30mph (so travelling at 25mph-ish), and just over 10mph at 70mph (travelling at 60mph or just below) - on the gauges, not the SatNav. So I'm driving slower than the gauges say I am. My first thought, and that of a few people I asked, was wheel/tyre size (it's on 17s and low profile rubber). But running it through various online rolling radius calculators, I'm only a few mm bigger than stock 15's on 205/50... and in fact rather than be underspeed compared with my speedo, I should overspeed by about 2mph at an indicated 60mph for example. So my next thought was the gauges. I have DDI illuminated dash gauges (previous owner) and looking at them compared to the installation guide I downloaded, it appears my speedo needle sits too high - rather than be below the 10mph mark, it sits on it. So effectively it's giving me an extra few mph onto my speed before I even move... hence I am driving slower than I think I am by looking at my speedo. My gauges The DDI photo A photo I found on this forum of someone elses DDI's Reading the instruction guide it tells you to remove the needles prior to inserting the illuminated gauges, but are the needles keyed or on some kind of spline fitting? Can I adjust where the speedo needle rests at 0mph or is it dictated by the fitment of the needle into the cluster? If they can be adjusted, is there a good method by which to ensure they are as accurately positioned as possible? If the speedo is slightly out, I'm now worried my temp and petrol are also wrong...! Presumably they should both rest in a certain spot with the engine turned off? Anyone else had a similar issue?
  14. Ah right brilliant, thanks! some of the interior looks like it has been removed to install the stereo wiring... and not replaced very well. Which drives me mad as I hate half-arsed stuff like that!
  15. As in the title really. My rear door cards aren't playing nice and sitting as they should. I've ordered a bag full of the round push in clips that go along the top and side, but should there be clips of some kind along the edge of the window rubber too? I'm sure my Mk2 Golf had them and the door card latched over them before it then was attached else where to the body of the car - just curious if the Corrado is supposed to have something similar? My rubbers have no such clips along the rubber strips... although I have new trim clips coming, I'm not confident they'll hold the car flush along the top edge.
  16. I had the right side of a set of OEM rear lights donated to me today, so just need the left side and I'm laughing. Ish. If I never clap eyes on another brake carrier in my life, I will be happy. Got the car fixed and running sweet as the proverbial, just in time to take it out just around sunset along some of the country lanes of Northumberland to visit a friend.
  17. This weekend was meant to be about driving the car, and doing some pottering and polishing. However it has turned into a weekend with the car on axle stands due to the incompetence of some professional mechanics. Now bear in mind this car had a clean MOT, and had recently been fitted with a brand new VW rear brake calliper. However, since picking the car up on Wednesday, there has been a loud squeak/brake squeal coming from that new calliper. So today I thought I'd have a look, expecting that it has simply not been lubed before installation. Instead, I found brake pads that look like this: So that loud squeal wasn't a lack of copper slip, it was one pad using the backing plate to stop the car (no friction material left at all). But it gets better. I dashed out and bought some new pads, assuming the old calliper must have been seized and worn one pad down to nothing... except it looks like the calliper was fine. As in fact the lower slide bolt in the carrier was seized rock solid in place. One twist with a spanner later and it snapped off leaving the end inside the carrier. So now it needs a new carrier and slide bolts as well. Amazing. Oh and on the other wheel, I found this: Big thumbs up from me! So instead of me going out in the car to see my mates, I'm sat in the house as the car looks like this: :( Bought on Wednesday, buggered on Saturday. Mint. With all this in mind, I am considerably less happy to put the buggered gearbox mount down to experience either. Considering when I took it out the car it looked like this: New one in so at least that went to plan...
  18. Ha most common car in the North East now :D Blackberry is such a nice colour, we all just have great taste!
  19. I did yes, from near Middlesbrough. I think he had an advert for it on here a while ago but he changed his mind and kept the car a bit longer... until i came along! The last owner had one on, but swapped it for this cone shaped filter... might see if he still has it. ---------- Post added at 10:42 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:37 PM ---------- Well after a lot of driving last night (nothing silly...) I noticed coming home that the engine felt like it was lurching about when I took my foot off the gas at low speed... almost like a kangaroo feeling or tapping the brakes. "engine mount" I thought... looked under the bonnet tonight and found... One dead rear gearbox mount... lots of lovely fluid coming out. Was fine on the test drive and most of last night, so I'm guessing a lack of use of the car in the last year, it's been a shock to the system and the mount kicked the bucket. Easy to replace though so not too bothered. Just trying to work out what a good replacement is... I seem to remember seeing mention of Mk2 GTD solid rubber mounts being used instead, but I suspect having a fluid filled mount must mean better damping of gearbox vibrations...? I love the colour!
  20. I sold my Mk2 Golf last week ( http://www.edition38.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=361714 ), a product of blood, sweat, and tears. After seven years of Mk2 ownership, and four different cars, I decided I wanted to start afresh with something faster, and a little newer (but not too new...). I've lusted after a Corrado for years, test drove a few, but never found a truly lovely one I could afford so always ended up back in a Golf. Until today. This is the only one I have taken so far myself, who cares about cameras when you have a new car to drool over? So here's a couple from the previous owner (s) so you get an idea what's what - I think it's been lowered a little since the one with the Honda in the shot. Spec: 1993 VR6 with approx 134K on the clocks Blackberry paint, looks lush. Slight imperfection round one washer jet but otherwise looks gorgeous. Full black leather interior Shiney-polished TT Comps (needs a bit of a buff) KW v1 coilovers with the Inox stainless bodies DDI dash clocks (very pretty in the dark) Centre console Corrado VDO gauges for oil pressure and voltage (might get rid of these) Milltek stainless exhaust system Momo Race leather steering wheel Has some ridonkulous bills in the file for what appears no expense spared work from places like Stealth Racing - last April had the chains and clutch done, loads of new bits and bobs, belts, gaskets etc (£1600!). Great service history too, so looks like the car has been very well looked after (not that this guarantees anything on a nineteen year old VW!). All in all a really complete base to start me off! Few bits I want to change such as more OEM rear lights and a OEM Corrado steering wheel. Maybe remove the tints if they'll come off. In terms of stuff that needs doing, so far all I've spotted is a very squeaky new rear caliper (might just need a lube), and the electic mirror control just clicks (relay?) when you try and adjust them. Apart from that all the other electric work fine (spoiler... Long term plan is for different wheels as these a little too bling for me, and fine tune how it sits.
  21. I wasted a full 8hrs to and from a viewing of a VR6 today - not too happy as the seller hadn't really mentioned some fairly important things about the car beforehand (despite me repeatedly asking) and I had an altogether uneasy feeling about the car. Anyway, as it was the first time I'd driven or poked around a Corrado 1st hand, I have a couple of questions that don't seem to be covered in the buyers guide. 1) Can someone describe the noise the engine of VR6 should make, when idling? Had the bonnet up and it seemed somewhat more... harsh than I expected. Apparently had had loads of engine work done too (inc chains and tensioner), but the engine had a tat-tat-tat-tat-tat sound to it. 2) The MFA wasn't working it seemed - MPG and one of the other reading showed as 1.0 after a decent test drive, and didn't fluctuate at all. The speed-orientated readings seemed OK though. Broken sensor of some sort or sign of tampering? 3) How effective should the brakes feel? I wasn't sure if I was just feeling used to the Mk5 GTi brakes, but they seemed quite soft to me - should it stop on a six-pence or are they meant to be less decisive feeling? 4) From a low speed, say 20-30, how rapid ought a VR6 feel? Should I feel a kick in the pants, or is it more steady and consistent? I felt it seemed a little lacking in grunt tbh and wasn't convinced it ought to feel that way. Apologies for the questions but I've tried the search and couldn't find much to help as these seem pretty specific questions. N.B I've been driving Mk2 Golfs for the last few years (most recent was a torquey homebrewed 2.0L 8v GTi), but have recently been using an insurance Mk5 GTi (MK2 Golf written off...) - just so you know what I've got to compare it with.
  22. I must admit, I can't really complain as the insurance company have given me an '07 plate GTi to drive about in... but I doubt they'll let me keep for much longer! Living semi-rural means a car is an essential - I just hope what I want comes up soonish.
  23. Bit of backstory: Been a MK2 Golf lover/owner for a while, and had my most recent Golf, an 8V 1.8 GTi I had taken to 2.0L, rear ended and written off. After ages of looking for a canny 3-door 16v GTi to replace it, I had my interest turned to a Corrado by some of the awesome looking beasts on this very forum. Back to reality: Now I'm finding the hunt for a Corrado I like, as fruitless as the Golf search. A VR6, or rather one I would be happy with condition/mileage wise, is over my budget. A G60 would be too costly to run/maintain for me (I have a long daily drive coming up within a few months when we move house). I would however be dead chuffed with a valver. And here is my "Am I being too picky?" question. I cannot find a 2.0L 16v within a sensible, do-able driving distance - in fact there are precious few out there for sale full stop. There are however a couple of 1.8 versions within an hour or two. But in the back of my mind, I worry that I would just have a nagging feeling of wishing I'd waited for a 2.0L. Is this justified? Is there enough of a difference between the two to justify prolonging the wait? I would love to be able to bide my time and wait it out for one to come up, but I'm driving round the courtesy car at the moment (have been for 3 weeks) and I need to make a decision fairly soon. I've done as much research as possible, and read a few posts here and on Ed38, as far as I can tell the torque is the only 'stat' difference I can see between the two - BHP is the same? But in terms of the driving experience, I was hoping someone might be able to put into words how it 'feels' difference wise? I've read comments that the 1.8 feels 'buzzier', but can anyone explain that? I'm not looking for turbo charged, uber speed. But at the same time I don't want to be driving a sporty looking car that feels a bit... slow. I like the nippy, torquey feel of my 8v Golf for example. As a side note, I'm pretty competent with a set of spanners - I did a full strip and refit with a ported head and Audi block on the Golf - so I'd be more than happy to attempt anything to improve performance short of sticking a totally different engine in it. Thanks in advance.
