I don't know where I'm going wrong then! The fact the rubber bung is useless probably isn't helping... but I tried again to get it to lie flat and I'm damned if I can ha ha ha

My First Corrado - Bye Bye Mk2 Golfs! Hello VR6!
mookie replied to mookie's topic in Members Gallery
Small update... I bought a stock VR6 airbox from KADVR6, paid yesterday and it was here today! So wasted no time getting it installed. The car was sold to me with this titchy blue induction cone on it So whipped that off... not sure what make it is as there are no labels on it. Replaced it with the stock box Took it for a drive and was instantly disappointed - felt smoother but was reeeeeeeeeeeaaally quiet, we're talking like I couldn't tell I was in a VR  So drove home and contemplated getting another cone to get some of that lovely noise back... but tried removing the insert/tube thing in the front of the box. Now we're talking!!!! a very different noise but much nicer, and still incredible when driving 'enthusiastically'. Which is nice. Front engine mount is clonking so ordered a new one. I really want some of the group buy poly inserts but it's a bridge too far this month, but a future upgrade for sure! Hopefully getting a few other bits this weekend including some new parcel shelf supports, possibly another (better) shelf, and some other stuff to unbling the interior a little. -
Thought I'd add my 2p about my VR6. I've just ditched a no-brand cone (previous owner) for a standard box. The cone was fairly civilised round the houses, quiet, unassuming. Sounded like a race car when given some beans, and at high revs doing a decent speed genuinely sounded like something going around a racing circuit - raw, very loud, but very nice in my opinion. I put a completely standard airbox on tonight. Immediately the car felt so much smoother to drive, especially after driving at motorway speeds and back to 30. I could feel the difference straight away just driving out around the streets... which to be fair I did not think was going to happen. I haven't noticed much change to pulling at speed, or rapid acceleration other than added smoothness - doesn't feel any sharper or more responsive but does feel a lot more refined and less raw power. The noise difference is huge however. In it's first incarnation, the OEM airbox seemed almost silent in comparison, and I was very disappointed in the standard VR6 sound compared with the mental race car roar it offered beforehand. Even flooring it and letting the rev's climb at high speed, it sounded a bit tame and ordinary. However, I whipped it out and removed the front tube insert (the intake opening must be 100% bigger without it) and tried again. This time the sound is perfect and very different. No change in performance that I can feel, but the noise is sublime. Much deeper, more throaty, and lacks the top end scream it had with the cone. It's a much warmer, feel-it-in-your-guts kind of noise. Very quiet still on normal 30mph routes, but floor it and the sound builds from nothing to a really loud warbley-wail that never sounds annoying or ASBO-y. Like a mini-supercar rather than a mini-Nascar. Very, very pleased. Smoothness and an even better noise.

Throttle damper on a VR6 - is mine set too low or broken? VIDEO INSIDE!
mookie replied to mookie's topic in Engine Bay
I so wish I could... I'll need to see how my funding goes as I need a few other bits first :( -
For sale I have a full set on Inpro rear lights. They are slightly smoked, with red lenses where needed for the rear side lights/brakes etc. The outer corners come with the special bulb holders (screw fit) and simply plug into your existing Corrado multiplug connector without needing to cut anything or chop the loom up (see the photo). The centre sections come with the standard VW bulb holder pod-thing so nothing different there. The lights are all in very very good condition, front and back. I'll send them recorded 1st class to whoever buys them. Any questions, just ask! How they looked on the car £60 inc postage and packing Thanks!!

What's the likely ETA on them? I just had a read of the thread and they look really good... I'm really tempted but this mount needs done ASAP sadly... -

Massively appreciate the email Roger! Helped a lot! However I still have bad jerks... and I have noticed it's worst when going off or on the throttle going down hill when the car was/is engine braking. Almost like it gets a momentum up of shakes! Which got me thinking about why that be going down hill? Weight, gravity... and the engine movement in the bay being affected. I'd previously replaced the gearbox mount as it sprung a leak, but gave the engine a good push and pull when I got home tonight and there is a clank/knock coming from the front mount if you rock the engine side to side or push up with the front of the inlet manifold. So new front mount is getting put on this weekend as hopefully that just be it if the weight of the engine is able to shift about in that direction? Must be worth a go! -
Renshaw project (probably going to sell / swap)

Awesome car, and big inspiration for my first foray into the world of Corrados! I hate noises too, like OCD hate them! My current teeth-grinder is my alarm fob rattling on the steering wheel surround... according to my girlfriend I have "problem". :) -
Yeah that's exactly what it does on mine... I got sick of having a half open bonnet after pulling the handle and having to fanny about sticking my fingers through the gap to free it!

Yeah I think so too. I want to tint them all red, minus the reverse lights, so going to try that on the spare half of the lights and see how it looks. As for the parts, that would be tremendous, thanks! ---------- Post added at 9:19 PM ---------- Previous post was at 9:17 PM ---------- Thanks! If I can get approaching anything like some of other cars on this forum I'll be happy. Just a massive list of little bits and bobs! -
I must be doing something wrong then cos I can't get it to sit right... although the split rubber bung isn't helping.

Tremendous! Thanks! I'm assuming it's a bit too bendy then... :D

So I got a parcel today! My first foray into trying to change the look of the car to my own 'thing' and preference. Got them for an absolute steal off eBay considering how expensive just one out of the four lights can be Corrado parts prices... OMFG! I already had half a set which I got off a mate, so picked the best ones and got onto fitting them. Whipped off the inPro lights (now for sale) Behind the lights was minging, no rust but really dirty and greasey. Some cleaning later... I hate fitting dirty or dusty parts! And all done! Debating whether to go for amber side repeaters or leave them smoked to keep them more subtle... -
Either I'm being a total div, or this isn't the right bonnet stay for my car (VR6)? It keeps getting jammed under the bonnet when it's closed, and so I've just taken it off all together and keep it in the garage. The rubber grommet/bush/bung that holds it in place is split in half so I can't get it to sit properly with the bonnet up... but when down it just doesn't seem to fit in place at all! Apologies for the noobish questions...

Throttle damper on a VR6 - is mine set too low or broken? VIDEO INSIDE!
mookie replied to mookie's topic in Engine Bay
Thanks for the reply! Good little check list for me to go through there. After winding the damper out a bit more I get virtually no jerks... not sure if when it does jerk now it's because it's to high gear and too low revs ha ha but I really want it running perfectly rather than 'about right'. I've borrowed a fault reader just to eliminate anything really obvious and then go through the list above. But it the clutch now 'grabs' a bit changing gears which I think might be because the throttle is closing completely, too slowly now, and so is like changing gear wit my foot very slightly on the gas? I think... But anyway I'm going to try winding it down again a little again. -
I'm fairly convinced I have Mk2 Golf parts on my Corrado door cards. The plastic trim that runs next to the window, that the door card fits into looks wrong. It has semi circle cut outs like a Mk2 for the door pins, but my door cards have the hole a good cm or two in from there. Apart from that the cards just don't fit into them very well and looks a bit poo. Anyone shed some light on it for me?

Well I found what that rubber strip was... the belt between the two radiator fans Little clue was when one wasn't going round and the other one was doing about 10000000rpm  Started removing the ICE wiring from a previous owner Car is currently sat minus door cards, seats, bits of the dash, carpet... in all honestly this wiring was absolutely mental. So glad I decided to strip it all out and start again. Just have to contend with a butchered wiring loom to the headunit, where some one has chopped and crimped the factory wiring to a Kenwood ISO instead of just buying a connector from Halfords. -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wL4rTY-9ITU&feature=youtu.be I took this little video of the throttle on my VR6. It's veeeeeeeery jerky at low revs/speeds when you take your foot off the gas, like kangaroo-ing out of petrol time. As you can see in the video, when the throttle is released, it slams shut quite hard. However the little damper device (not sure what it's called) does provide SOME cushioning but seems to be happening too late, i.e when the throttle is already shut. I noticed however that it can be screwed in or out to increase it's height/distance from the throttle. On mine (not sure how easy it is to see) it was about halfway down the threaded bolt end into the bracket... it actually looked a little like it had been moved to accomodate the removal of the inlet pipe work around the throttle opening. I've since unscrewed it by about 50% less thread so the throttle now hits it sooner and the butterfly in the throttle almost shuts, leaves a crack of a few mm, then slowly closes fully. A quick drive and it is a lot better in most situations now, but still can jerk say in 3rd at 15/20mph as you lift off the gas. My big question therefore is... is there a specific position this damper should be set to in terms of how soon the throttle hits it before closing? I still have a couple more turns left on it before the nut on the end would struggle to hold it still. Does anyone have a photo of how this should be setup? I feel it isn't broken as I've seen described else where, but that maybe it needs fine tuned a little more to get the softening effect just right, but obviously I don't want to screw up the idle if it instead lingers too long with the throttle open. Any help greatly appreciated.

Is it over 10-15mins of continuous driving without stopping, or say round town stopping and starting at lights etc?
