I never did swap pumps by the way, because my ABS spontaneously decided to start working. Initially the light would stay on after the first start then it would go off when I restarted the car to come back from wherever I had been. These days it always stays off, every time and it's been like this for a few months now. My ABS was originally disabled on purpose by a previous owner, I presume because of the (trivial to fix) sensor fault. My theory is that since it hadn't been used for a while, the pump had become gunked up, for whatever reason. The power on test must have loosened it off somehow. I've even tested the ABS (on purpose) a couple of times and it all seems to be working fine.

You must have a sh1t hot weekend job :)...
-
How are you managing to pay for all this?
-
I don't get it, to be honest. With those cars riding so low, they'll be rubbing all over the place and hence not practically drivable. What's the point in a car you can't drive?

Track adjusting bearings eh? Hmm.

If there is a quartz crystal on the PCB, it might be worth replacing it. Most digital clocks use such a crystal to keep time (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crystal_oscillator). Usually they're packaged in little tin cylinders.

Sorry, I would upload it to youtube or something but they tend to get upset about clips from TV programmes. It's already been mentioned, but Media player classic should play it. For the record it's h264 video and mp3 audio.

Police, Corrado, Action! Anyone going to own up? :norty:

Has anyone put an R36 in a Corrado?... http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3588222&page=1

I found mine off the local http:://www.gumtree.com/. I bid for a few on ebay but they either went way over priced or not high enough to meet the reserve. I'm not sure ebay is all that good for cars to be honest; you really need to see what you're buying first, and that's awkward with ebay. It seems like lots of folk just put silly money on the ebay auction in order to have a chance to view it and then haggle/walk away.

It was too good to be true then? Ah well. Maybe he'll break it and I can rape it for spares :D.

That's what came off my rear axle . If you look closely you can see bits of cover ring and splash guard.

If I hadn't got my VR in April, I would have had this one. Cheaper and probably in better condition than mine.
-
How did you manage to open up your pump by the way? I have a spare that I want to inspect before swapping over but I don't have anything small enough to get at the (presumably) retaining screw on the corner of the plastic cover. When I say small enough I mean something that fits in between the motor and the solenoid block as opposed to the correct size of torx bit.

I think they're those weird ovalised nuts that VW like to use. They go on really tight; I assume they're meant as a cheap alternative to nylok nuts.

Just out of curiosity, what do the FI/VR6 people tend to get in terms of MPG?
-
I actually quite like the yellow faux-Corrado, to be honest. I think I'd rather have that than the new Scirroco.

Why a Corrado bicycle frame of course!: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Corrado-Winter-Bi ... 240%3A1318

If that had been the case Mclaren would have been getting whipped by the Force Indias this year :D.

There are little levers on either side of front seats that are used to tilt the seats in order to get at the rears. Unfortunately, my driver's side one has broken off and it's probably not fixable. Are Mk2/3 Golf ones such as these suitable?: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-GOLF-MK2-GTI-9 ... 240%3A1318 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SEAT-TILT-HANDLE- ... 240%3A1318 They look like the right kind of shape though if I compare the pictures to my broken one they look a bit longer. Is this the case or are my eyes playing tricks on me?

British! :nono: You raving nationalist you!

It looks like a Citroen .

My car should have failed its MOT (broken ABS, no rear number plate light, rear axle bushes, rear wheel bearings), but the guy I get to do it is reasonable and realises that I'm going to want to do the work myself anyway. If you can't find a pragmatic tester maybe this is worth a shot: http://news.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/hi/the_p ... 662706.stm . Haven't tried it myself, but if my guy shuts up shop I might.
