  1. Found my leaks one at the themostat so gonna put a new one and o ring in, but i'm also gonna replace the T pipe that sits just infront of it as im not convinced the rubber there is up to the job anymore, i'll get the stat from GSF but im assuming the pipe will be a VW only part? Another at what appears to be the pipe that leads to the heater matrix, at the expansion bottle side of the engine. This one is really really minor so i'm thinking i'll just replace the gasket here, cant see any need to replace the plastic end piece of the pipe unless they're known for failing?
  2. Yeah checked carpets and they're all fine, i'm gonna get underneath the car and look for any obvious leaks, then clean the hoses as suggested and monitor them over a few days or so. Weird thing is the car has started to splutter into life for a second or two the last few days, doubt it's related but i'll fix the coolant issue first the move on just incase it clears up!
  3. i've read about that, but there is definately no coolant coming out through the cap seals so i kinda discounted that one, i'll maybe change it anyway but i really dont think it's the problem. the coolant temp seems ok too, sits about 90 on motorway and goes up to about 104 in traffic
  4. -my 2.0 16v seems to be losing quite a bit of coolant over the last week it's been needing to be topped up every couple of days. There are no HG signs that i can see, oil cap is fine no steam runs fine I've had a look from the engine bay, cant get underneath the car till the weekend and cant find anything that could lose so much coolant. When i run the car, then stop loosen the tank cap a little, some coolant appears on the ridge of the bottle, could this be my problem? are the bottles prone to failing? Pics attached of the possible areas i've found so far, but tbh i dont think these are causing my problem - any pointers on where else to look appreciated
  5. Thanks, i've always wanted one just so happens that i've got the spare cash and can insure one now! I'm on top of the fluids etc gonna change them at the start of september and i think i'm gonna change the belts/waterpump/tensioners too just to be on the safe side - i cant find anything advising on when to change the timing belt im having a stab in the dark at the usual vag/audi 80k or 5 years?
  6. Agreed the deal a few weeks ago then finally picked it up today, drove it 150 miles home and im really impressed with it for such an old car!! for anybody who's interested: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=250271086705&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=015 There are a couple of little things not quite right with it as expected, gives me something to work towards so in a way im kinda happy about that lol! I'm gonna trawl through the guides on the forum as there's tons and tons of information, but i'll mention them here incase anybody has some quick tips for me: First thing is that the rear wiper doesnt seem to work, or maybe i just cant figure out how to get it to wipe - the rear washer does work tho. Second thing is slightly more important, the blowers dont seem to put out much air - i can hear the fan trying harder as i turn from one up to four, stepping up each time, but there doesnt seem to be alot of air coming out of the vents. I'm wondering if there is anything in particular i should be looking for? Third thing is the spoiler, its gotten alot better now but seemed to be struggling to go up and down at first, going up/down in stages if that makes any sense. However it seems to be almost a continuous movement now so im guessing they can get a bit clogged up if not used for a while? Last thing and im not too worried about this, the Gear selection is a bit like stirring soup - i'm guessing it's just that the car's on the original linkage and it could be doing with a mini overhaul am i barking up the right tree. Anyway, i love the car already i hope it lasts as long as i want it to!! I was expecting it to be a slow old thing as its only a valver but it's not actually too bad especially from about 50-80 so im quite impressed with that!
  7. Well i just bought a tidy 93 valver for £800 with 150k so i dont think you should be payin any more than that maximum from a trade in!
  8. Luckily enough i used to have an early A3 so am fairly used to the common vag group troubles and niggles lol
  9. Not sure if the guy was maybe just getting desperate to sell it, i was surprised he accepted my offer to be honest! Having said that there are a few on pistonheads etc for around £1200, plus this one has done 155k which could put alot of people off. I'm gonna change the belt when i get it home and then see what other bits n bobs need sorting out with it, i'm sure there'll be a few things to fix but it certainly seems tidy enough from the photos i've seen etc.
  10. I've just bought this corrado paying the guy a deposit today: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250271086705&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.co.uk%3A80%2F%3F_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dm38%26_nkw%3D250271086705%26_fvi%3D1 Any of you guys know it or know of it?
