Lying here with a moderate hangover this morning and saw an advert for Boots and some Sex and the City promo they have running. Couldn't care too much about that obviously :camp: but was pleased to see what I am 99% to be the front of a Corrado making an appearance at the end of the advert. It is parked on the right hand of the screen as three women walk out a house and down the road... Get spotting guys and girls!

A pretty good covering down in South East England today... Don't think the 'rado is going anywhere for a bit...! Do I carry on trying to get the new heater matrix fitted or go inside for a cup of tea? Decisions decisions... About the only thing that was getting up my road today... Hopefully the weight of the snow on it will mean I won't have to bother with getting the lowering springs fitted I had planned!

MOT fail...Only one sidelight when ignition off - FIXED!
clubsport78 replied to clubsport78's topic in Exterior
All fixed now. There was a brown wire which had come off the terminal next to the terminal for the grey and black wire going to teh sidelight bulb holder. I took the working light out and it became apparent that the other side was missing the cable. Took the other light out, fished around for the offending brown lead, fixed it to the terminal and hey presto, it is working again! Hopefully I will be able to get a nice green slip off the MOT man  One further issue, just put the light back in and noticed a white VW label floating around inside the lens :censored: , which must have come lose when I took it out. Back out the light came and lens off to remove it! All back in and working now though. Just the heater matrix to do next! Something tells me that isn't going to be quite that simple... Cheers for your help and advice guys. Especially where the screws were to get the headlights out. It would have taken me ages to find that hidden third screw . It's easy when you know how! :salute: -
MOT fail...Only one sidelight when ignition off - FIXED!

Cheers for the replies guys. Yep all lights work fine when ignition on... As far as I know, there is no updated loom fitted (only had the car 7 months). Will check on the relays though... Yes I just thought the one light was a normal 'VW thing' as it has always done it. MOT guy reckons both should be lit though .. If someone could check on a working Corrado I would be grateful to get a comparison. If I can't get to the bottom it, I think linking accross a bit of wire from the working drivers side one may be a way to get it through?! -
MOT fail...Only one sidelight when ignition off - FIXED!

Bump. Any ideas? Oh and the heater matrix has just gone pop. What a fun day I am having! -
Hi All, My C has just failed its MOT on just the one thing...sidelights :mad2: . The sidelights all work fine when the ignition is on as do dipped and full beam. However when the ignition is off and you leave the lights switched on, only the offside light stays lit but there is nothing from the nearside light, hence the fail. I have just changed the bulb (the MOT place were going to do it for me and pass it, but had none in stock :epicfail: - It is a small 4w type?) and it has made no difference. The indicators are also in the neutral position as I initially thought it was a parking light type issue. Has anyone got any ideas??? The lights are a bit of a pig to get to on one side due to the air box, my only thought is to check the other side as it could be the bulb has always been the wrong type and is causing the fault? Failing that I think I will need to check the wiring and see if the voltage is dropping on the cable that feeds that bulb when the ignition is off. Could it be that the headlight switch is causing the problem as I know they are a potential weak point? Cheers.

Yep will do! That would be an expensive mistake if it was just the lead/plug. Good to know the Beru unit should be OK as I had read a few people slating them? Thanks for the advice :salute:

Cheers James, will try that tomorrow night. Hoping that is the issue as it is a fairly easy fix I suppose. That would make sense...New one from VW is £180 though so may have to take the Beru route!? Thanks.

There is like a double pop/click sound that seems to be coming from the right rear side of the engine. Can't see any actual arcing as such.
-
Yep it is misfiring at idle and under load. It is a fairly constant rhythm... Thanks.

Hi All, I have developed a rather pronounced and constant misfire on my VR6. Driving along on Sunday at a steady pace (30mph) and went to give it a bit more gas and hey presto, it had turned into a lawn mower! It is a constant misfire, as soon as you start it up it is there. It is driveable, but does not sound well. The car is a late '93 (L) with 127000 miles and I believe is on the original chains. I am not too sure what it is... I have a receipt for all new plugs and leads from the previous owner 10000 miles (2years) ago so I am doubtful that they are going to be the issue (?). I am just waiting for my lead tool (big thanks to Zerocool  ) to turn up so I can whip the plugs out and have a look to see what they look like. I understand that the coilpack could be another culprit. It looks in good condition but have not tried spraying it with water yet to test for any arcing. When it is on and I have my head under the bonnet it sounds like there is a misfire on cylinder 5, but it is difficult to tell as it is also at the end close to the coil pack. There is no real smoke that I can see and all the levels look OK. It has been smelling a bit if petrol under the bonnet though, although I had put that down to a jubilee clip on one of the two rubber feed pipes which I tightened up a couple of week ago after I noticed it was dripping slightly... It was also slightly lumpy on tickover for a while (the revs were not surging at all though). In regards to diagnostics, I have the later "hex" (?) type connector by the gear stick and would like to get it on VAG-COM. I have downloaded a free VCDS (ver. 805) program from Rosstech to my laptop and was going to buy a lead off of e-bay. Is that all I need and will the Rosstech program work then or do I have to buy one of their expensive leads? Could it be something more serious such as a bent or snapped valve or slipped belt ??! :censored: As you can probably tell, I am not exactly mechanic of the year, but any advice would be appreciatted and also any advice on what checks to try and any order to do them in :D Cheers.

Odd 10 minutes for me today.... I do a fair bit of driving for with my job but hadn't seen any C's for a couple of weeks. Popped out at lunch up the road to post a parcel and saw 2 in the space of 10 minutes! Strange  1st one - Grey/Silver, Unsure of type as was alittle way back - K***EEC running on upgraded alloys (17"s?), looked very clean. Going right towards Pembury at about 14:15 today at Woodgate Corner past Valley Saab. 2nd one - Blackberry VR6 Storm N****BY - Looked in very nice shape. I was next to you at the lights by the Saab Garage. You turned right towards Tunbridge Wells. I was next to you at the lights in a Silver A3...

Have a look here: http://www.camskill.co.uk Cheap as chips! Not used them yet myself, but have heard good things :)

Caught a glimpse of the back of a burgungy/blackberry rado, with what looked like black wheels with polished rims (?). Just coming off the A21 Pembury bypass in Kent (nr Tunbridge Wells), going off towards Pembury Village just before 6pm tonight. Anyone on here...? I wasn't in mine at the time, but in a silver A3 if you caught a glimpse of it

Thanks for the comments. Yes the VR6 grill badge is black, but close up it looks like someone may have painted it themselves at some point. I think it looks OK though. I am amazed at how good the paint looks, it has a few of the usual chips and dings as you would expect, but it does shine and i haven't even polished it yet!

Thanks for the comments. I don't think it looks in too bad shape for 126000 miles! The pics probably make the interior look a little bit better than it is, but I haven't had chance to give it a good clean yet. Re: the temp sensor. Thanks for the info. I will have to look at that as the computer seems to be reporting an outside temp ok. Is that plug the whole sensor or does it plug into something inside the front bumper? Cheers.

Hi all, As promised in the Newbie section, please see pics of my VR6. I hope you like it :D If anyone can tell me what the plug laying above the air box / resting on the susepnsion turret, please let me know! It still seems to work OK without it and I can't see where it should fit!
