  1. Great Thread. Cracking read with some good pics!! I've had My VR for about 7 years now. Has been idle the last 2 years. So its about time i gave mine the Once over and got it back to its best again! This has been some good Inspiration mate!
  2. Come on people... there must be some Gurus out there that can give me an answer?? Cheers!
  3. Evening Folks!! Any1 know the ins and the outs if i were to throw a G60 into my MK2 Ibiza Gti which already has a 2.0l Agg 8v in it.! 1998 model, im not 100 precent sure what age the G60 motor and running gear is would have to double check as it is a friend who is selling it! i was thinking about VR'n it but i've already got that power train in my Rado!! Any Feedback much appreciated and info on any transplants you guys/gals have done to your motors! :)
  4. Hi thanks for the responses guys! If it was sticking brakes etc after a long journey you would think the "Sticking/Faulty" Brake would be hot but there all as usual temp after a run! Heres another thing i totally forgot about, as it does the grinding/Slowing me down when i press the brake pedal it feels solid asif the brakes are already on!haha! Sometimes you drive the car for like a week and it doesnt do nothing! I wish something would just completely break so i know for sure what it is!! Im offshore at the moment so this next time home i'll maybe spend some more time F***ing around with it! I'll let you's know how i get on!
  5. Hi guys! My poor Old rado is suffering from some strange Grinding noise which also slows the car when it happens! I've been in and around the Brakes but cant see anything wrong! i fitted full all round Black diamond discs and pads About a year ago.( I am Formally a mechanic back in the day before i came offshore so i am fairly confident i fitted everything right) but you never know i may have missed smething! The grinding occurs at the start of every trip and is usual stopped by the time i get out of the housing estate! It grinds 3 or four times then comes alrite and drives fine, It does feel like the brakes coming on then off then on......... And this is what makes me think it has nothing to do with the brakes it only happens in like 1st and maybe 2nd gear during steady quarter throttle driving!! Which makes me think it could be drivetrain related! The first time it ever did it the engine wasnt strong enough to pull through it when i was in first gear so it was something major but watever it was originally isnt so bad now! I checked the gearbox oil level etc plenty in it(Fresh clean oil) Any help or ideas on what it could be.. much appreciated guys because its starting to do my head in!!!
  6. I've got a similiar problem with my fans on my VR. they seem to have a mind of their own. i think the problem is the condition of the multi plug that pugs into the main radiator fan switch at the bottom of the radiator it is quite badly corroded. i did try and clean it up the best i could when i changed the radiator and fitted my samco hoses but its started being tempermental again. the fans would just come on whenever regardless of ignition, on/off, fast slow! i think im going to have to cut out the plug and re wire in another one from another loom if i can get one!
  7. I dunno because i use the same garage for my mot/service/exhausts as they're an exhaust and engine tuning specialist so they can just whip it off themselves when the time comes. Wont be for another year anyway as the mot's going to be renewed on monday.... Does it actually improve the power at all? Hmm im not sure i want me exhaust any louder, its really really quiet as it is... Thanks :) I just just decat'd mine 2 weeks ago. it was already decat'd when i bought it and i never even noticed because it wasnt noisey at all! It depends on what back etc you have on aswell obviously. Now that i've changed it back to a decat it does seem to pick up a tad better. It is a raddo Vr6 btw just to confirm!
  8. Im also having the exact same problem. I also replaced the blue temp sensor with no improvement to the cold running! :( I might try what you have done and give the ISV a clean out and see if it makes a difference. With regards to what you were saying Kev could it possibly be both and,or just the throttle position sensor and MAF, if you say that once the MAF stops working the ecu relies on the TPS to guess??
  9. Just an update on the situation! My 2.8 VR6 engine, box, loom and all ancillarys are on route from leicstershire! so all i need is Ibiza 16 valve drive shafts and hubs and am ready to do the conversion! Once i get started i'll prob get some pics up etc! :)
  10. Lol! It seems we do hav a group forming!lol! Well i have been on that site but it seems to be a tad vague. Im just needing a s**t list of whats needed. I'll easily use a golf VR6 engine but i'd rather drop the rado one in being that it has that extra bit of power to start off with! :)
  11. Cheers for that link Erny! i'll check it out! Quality matching motors!lol! Mines a blackberry M 95 Vr Rado and a Bronze R-reg Ibiza cupra gti!loL! The Ibiza's not running and has the head off anyway so thats y im considering just rippin the lot out!lol! So im running a White Pulsar at the mom coz the rado's been out of Mot for over a month now and with all the snow up my neck of the woods lately the pulsar's been awsome so the rado's been left in the garage for now outa the cold!
  12. Arite guys/gals! I was wondering if anyone on here might be able to help with this one. I already have a corrado VR6 but i've had my Cupra Gti 8v for ages and am contemplating Vr6'ing it coz i've heard its not to hard a conversion. I was wondering if anyone knows the full ins and outs of whats needed to go through with the conversion like what drive shafts to use, convert it to 5 stud? Ecu? Loom? Engine mounts change full pump, keep it hydraulic clutch or swap so its cable?!? etc... It maybe seems like a silly idea considering i hav a perfectly all well and good running rado vr!lol! Dont worry though im not strippin my rado of its V6 i'll be sourcing another engine/box etc when i decide to go ahead with it!loL! Cheers in advance for any replies!! :D
  13. Cheers i'll give that a go aswell! Home from offshore 2moz so that'll be my tasks for wednesday! :D
  14. Alright cheers boys i'll check them out!! The ISV? Idle stabilise valve?!?!??!? :cuckoo:
  15. what is the most common sensor to stop working or go dodgy to coz it to run like a bag of s*** when cold people?!? The car starts no bother but i've gotta keep my foot on the throttle for a we while till she warms up! am i right in saying its the blue sensor and if so where about is it?!? I did have a cd-rom manual but i've lost the bloody thing!! Cheers for any replies!! :)
  16. heaps up here in Aberdeen too  Yeah im in the Aberdeen area Ellon. Me n my mate both have rado VR6's. his is the light grey phase 1 and mines the blackberry phase 2 Cracking cars! Ever any Scotand rado meets?!? :D
  17. Yeah Your right there! Got more things to fix yet though! 1 thing after another with this thing!lol! Center exhaust heat shield has fallen dwn on top of the exhaust(not like its a big problem ) drivers wishbone bush is knackered and theres something not right with my strut top mounts after fitting cheap raceland coilovers or watever the hell their called! Theres serious up and down play when you jack it up. checked my mates corrado which is also on coilovers but their Weitec ones and theres no play in his wat so ever so i'll have to look into that when am doin the bushes at the front! Got a set of freshly refurbed audi A3 wheels to go on aswell as a new set of samco's new 6 branch exhaust manifold so im guna be a busy bunny like! :)
  18. New Update on the Situation! It was a fuel pump that was the problem. I removed the small allen headed screw out of the injector rail and turned it over and there was no fuel present. Then check the fuel pump relay was working by removing the cover and checking it. worked fine. then i checked that there was power going to the pump Which there was so no broken wires! :) Removed the fuel pump and checked by connecting to a battery. only buzzed three times then didnt work again. Straight onto ebay got a new one complete and delivered for £65. New one from VW Trade price = £108! So a good saving there! Now its running good as new! :)
  19. That sounds a bit like the Problems i've been having with my VR Its a 95. Would run like rubbish when cold so i used to sit with my foot slightly on the accelerator till it warmed upto 70(water temp then it would run ok. but somtimes it would cum out with big juddering misfires whilst driving. then last week it juddered once then 100 yards dwn the road it cut out hand hasnt ran since. I plugged my Snap On Ethios code reader in and it came up with throttle position sensor - short with ground intermittent. and the usual engine speed sensor but i've heard they through that code up when their not running when u turn them over to check for a fault code anyway. So it shouldnt be that but i'll prob try it last if im at lost end. I've been advised to try the fuel pump relay 67/109 but havent got round to doing it yet as i have a spare car(thank god)!lol! And just the usual things like checking spark etc... That probably hasnt been much help but... Let me know how u get on with yours and i'll let you know how i get on with mine could be helpful to each other. :)
  20. My 1995 VR Sits at just above 70-80 when normal driving then in traffic upto 98 where the first stage fan kicks in! Dont think its ever seen the 100 mark since i bought it. When i bought it i gave it a service including a good coolant flush with (I think) Comma Coolant system flush. :)
  21. anybody know the best place to get new front wings then?!? Do Vdub still do them.......?!? cheers! :)
  22. well the thing is its got a nice new shiny coilpack already and put a new set of leads on it aswell! But the problems still there! It has thrown up a fault code with my Snap-on Ethios code reader though Throttle position sensor short with ground intermittent?!? which i think was G69?!? When i mentioned the ecu i just thought it might of been cause they never look in the best of nick on the outside(Hairy corrosion) If you know what i mean. Cheers for the replies though guys!! :)
  23. Arite ok cheers guys i wont jump in feet first to the speed sensor fault code then! Its not firing at all. Turning over no bother fitted a new starter not long ago u see!lol! It also threw up another fault code which would maybe explain my previous problem. 00518 Throttle position Sensor G69 Short with ground intermittent The problem before was it would rev and pull like a train fine throughout one gear and then as soon as you changed gear and let the clutch out and throttled again it would misfire/kangeroo as bad as it felt like it would rip an engine mount!! But if u backed off and waited for a second or two then gently eased on the accelerator it would be fine again. After this started happing i gave my throttle body a clean with carb cleaner and the inlet pipe aswell etc. This seem to cure it for a while then it started doing it again but very rarely....... then it just died about a month after as i already said. Hope this can help with you guys giving me more ideas. im offshore at the moment so cant investigate further. Cheers for all the replies btw dudes!!!! :)
  24. Hi i was wondering if any1 could inform if the engine speed sensor is the crank sensor?!? Or am i being an idiot and its a completely diff thing?!?lol! Plugged my car into my snap on ethios code reader you see and thats wats at fault with it supposodly! cheers! :)
  25. Well i Plugged the beast into My dads Ethios Snap On code reader and it came Back saying its the Engine speed sensor that has packed in so got a price from VW And its 83 quid plus the vat which aint to bad i suppose. But i was Wondering if any1 Knew if it came under another name? As in like the crank sensor?! would be the same thing or not because theres plenty of them forsale on ebay and their a good 30-40 quid cheaper.!! Any help appreciated once again! cheers! :)
