  1. I've got an intereting humming noise comming from the front of my 16v which gets louder at 30mph, dies away then gets louder again at 50mph to the point of very annoying. If I take the car out of gear it still makes the noise at 50mph. I have changed the front tyres, checked the rears, and given the wheels a shake to check the bearings. There is no steering wheel vibration or anything else that appears strange. Does anyone have any ideas or has experienced this? Thanks.
  2. Many thanks - it sounds a bit more complicated than I first thought. I would probably try and find one from a breaker yard and get someone to fit it - who can fit it for a reasonable price is the question. Hopefully somebody will read this and have an answer! thanks.
  3. Thanks for the reply. If doesn't sound easy which is why I would rather pay to have it fixed. Is it an identical sunroof and mechanism on a mark 3 Golf then?
  4. A couple of years ago the sunroof jammed and the manual allen key override failed to work. The local garage got the roof back in position but I never did anything about repairing it. Does anyone know a reasonably priced person who would repair the mechanism? I understand it is a good few hours work, so maybe a VW tech 'out of hours'? Has anyone else paid to get one repaired? Comments, as always, very appreciated. regards.
  5. I recently posted that my 2.0l 16v was occasionally jumpy and got a reply to check plugs, leads, distributor etc. However, I have noticed that this only happens in hot weather. It will suddenly and momentarily cut out and then regain power once I take my foot off the accelerator. It is only when accelerating harder so usually when travelling up hill! Any ideas of the cause and solution? thanks.
  6. My 1995 2.0 16v has started to jump under hard acceleration. It is a bit of a shock each time as the engine loses power and then regains it. It starts and idles fine, but is jumpy when accelerating which is also unnerving as I am usually overtaking! My thoughts are: I'm pretty sure it occurs when the weather is hotter, although I can't prove that theory until cold weather comes! The fuel pump has been wining for years but I suppose it could be about to fail? The leads and plugs have not been changed for a while. Does anyone have any ideas please? thanks.
  7. Thanks for the quick reply. I will pass that onto the mechanic along with other replies I hope to receive.
  8. Back again two months on and no joy with my ABS problem - the car still does not have an MOT! The VW mechanic and VW electrics chap has tested and retested the mass of wires and is getting fault code 00532 'ABS supply voltage static' but cannot find the source of the problem. I have replaced the ABS ECU - is there a chance they have a common problem? Can anyone help with suggestions or answers to the problem please? This is desparate as it is costing me and there is no light at the end of the tunnel (except an orange one with ABS written on it). To add to my misery I found my original post of three years ago with ABS problems which I got around but not over - they have come back to bite me. The ABS light is all that stands between 12 more happy months of Corrado motoring!
  9. My Corrado is perfect....except the damn ABS. Thanks for all the advise above, I may need it if I am forced to reconnect the ABS ....read on - 3 years ago the ABS light would not go out. VAGCOM said fault was the ECU. ECU tested (twice) and reported to be okay. After 5 weeks off the road I got the ABS light wired to the battery light and it passed the MOT. Last year the ABS cut in for no reason at low speed when I braked, so getting fed up I disconnected the ABS. NOW, there seems to be an electrical current kick back from the alternator and the car has failed its MOT because the ABS light flickers on when you turn off the ignition and the MOT tester noticed this. What do I do? Try to resolve the electrical current return?, OR r-econnect the ABS, disconnect the ABS light from the battery light and re-install the whole system again (at great expense no doubt). Gutted about this as the MOT has now expired and I cannot drive.
