Just thinking aloud really. Seeing as its in bits at the moment I mite aswell put some shiney bits in :D. Are there any performance cams available for the rado 1.8? Any other shiney performance related stuff I can throw in it while its in bit? Many thanks!

Aha! Success! Well sort of lol. Got the head off checked all the valves, piston heads, and cylinder bores and everything seems totally fine! Only problem I could spot was the headgasket. There is a break (looks as if its burnt though) at the closest point between cylinder 3 and 4. Would this be causing all the shaking, running and tapping issues?

Well bugger going down to the crack lol. Don't think I could put it back together if I went that far lol. After I get the head off and check the valve, springs etc if I cant see a problem there i'll just tear the lump out. You will notice when I do that because there will be millions off new questions posted up
-
Thanks mate. I've unbolted and disconnected everything but it still seems pretty solid on there lol. I have unbolted the exhaust manifold from the block but I will unbolt it from the down pipe aswell to see if I can budge it any other way. Found a few g60 lumps for sale if it is buggered under there so I mite drop something in with a bit more poke :D
-
I think I love you! I'm up to the point of removing the head now. Oil and waters all drained etc. Gave the head a wee tap with a nylon mallet but didn't budge so i'm going to get cracking again in the morning. I'm sure I will be back soon with many, many questions haha

I didn't sieve the oil but the sump nut is magnetic so I checked that. Only a few tiny little fillings stuck to it. Took all the lifters out and checked them, they all seem totally fine. Do I take the valves out now or do they come out with the head? Its beaten me for tonight, so I'm going to get cracking again in the morning.
-
O just a quick one before I get back to it. Should I drain the oil before I carry on? If I carry on stripping it will oil come out all over the place?
-
Thanks a lot chaps. I'd be lost with out all this help! :D! Anyway i've got the cams, drive chain and cam sprocket all out. About to check the lifters and if all is well i'm going to try find a tool to remove the head bolts and whip it head off

Think I have a mk2 one lying around! Just have to find it now :(. Do you know the procedure for removing the chain, cams etc?
-
What a mk3 one? They don't do a corrado one do they?
-
Right ok then i'm about to check/remove the cams and tappets. Do I have to turn the engine over to a certain point before I remove the cams? Has anything got to be locked in place? Also do you recommend taking the cam belt off? At least off the main pulley?
-
Right folks, So far i've taken everything off so the main head is exposed where I can see the cams, chain, cam belt pulley etc. So far I haven't spotted anything bent broken or otherwise. So where do I go now? I mean how do I carry on stripping it down? Whats next? Probs a simple answer but i've not done this before so can all you knowledgeable people point me in the right direction what to do next? Thanks

Mine hasn't got a badge on it anywhere so I get alsorts. Blokes where I used to work thought it was some sort of old Porsche and the fella that the car wash said nice calibra :mad2:. Had the Scirocco one a few times aswell
-
What do you think it could be then? I'll tear it apart tomorrow and have a gander

Well it was when I was coming off the motorway so maybe about 2.5-3k rpm, was runs going down though the gears. But I was on a round about so I had to nurse it a couple hundred meters to a lay by. Its restarted twice after this happened ( once after i pulled over and had a look and once when the bloke came with the truck to pick it up). Its starts totally fine just like before. Turn the key and it fires straight away but on tick over it runs really bad and the engine shakes all over the place. When you rev it to 1.5-2k it sounds sweet as a nut but anything higher and there is a loud tapping noise. The tapping noise almost sound like and engine that's been run dry of oil.

Does anyone know what just fixing the 1.8 entails? New valve(s), piston I spose? What else would it have broke? Or is this going to be major heart surgery?
-
Not too fussed about taller heads etc. As long as it makes the car move im happy really
-
This is all starting to sound very complicated :confused4:
-
Stealths is 60miles from me. Would it be drivable without adjusting above said things? At least just to get it to them? So disconnect everything from the 1.8 take it out and drop the 2.0 in and replace all pipes and wires? Nothing else to replace?
-
Awesome! Where abouts is stealth?
-
Im really not bothered if its faster, just that hes got the lump there to use. How much roughly would it cost to get the head done?
-
Had a porblem with the car on the way home from work tonight and the general thinking seems to be its dropped a valve :epicfail: (bad times :( ). Its a 1.8 16v. One of my mates has a 2.0 16v out of a mk3 golf knocking about doing nothing (good times). Anyone one know the difficulty of dropping that lump in, in its place? Will it mount up, plug in etc? Many thanks

Done a few searches but I can't find any answers. Recently the wipers died on the C but before I got round to trying to find what was wrong they randomly started working again, so I left it for a bit. Then they died again. So far i've checked the fuses and thats exhausted my electrical knowledge. Couldn't find any blown fuses and all the relays are plugged in. The fogs, heated rear screen and the blower motor has also died all at the same time and they all worked when the wipers randomly started working. Any help please!
-
That would be me. Got all red rears now. Where ya in ya C? Haven't seen any red ones in that area before

Saw mauve and a black corrados drive past my work this morning about half 7. I was out having a smoke near the white c on borbets
