Long shot - want to swap my VR6 Auto top hose for a manual one
joeshaw123 replied to joeshaw123's topic in Wanted
Yeah it is really for the aesthetics to be honest, I've got a perfect size bung for it but to be a bit more neat I'll be chopping off the hose closer to the main pipe - I thought I'd see if anyone needed one before I make it useless as an automatic rad hose! -
As above really, I've got an automatic VR6 upper radiator hose and want to swap for a manual one without the takeoff for the auto gearbox cooler. Any takers please? Cheers!

Can the VR6 impuls sender cause car to be hard to start?
joeshaw123 replied to Mawrick's topic in Engine Bay
I know this isnt going to be much help, but I had this problem in my mk2 VR swap. Always seemed to take a while to start up, and ran a bit lumpy on idle. I coped with it and it still RR'd recently at 208bhp, 200ft-lb. It seemed to start much quicker the first few starts after an ecu reset, which is what confused me and that never threw up any error codes. I changed the crank and cam senders, and the fuel pressure reg on that and none of those solved it. I'd be interested to see where this goes, as I'm going to be VR'ing my vento very soon and I want it to start straight away! It seems to be a fairly common problem though. And -
i found that if the temp switch in the rad goes the whole thing doesnt come on at any temp, but if its a sender/wiring issue then it seems to come on at 1 spd and not the other. However there isnt any harm in having a manual switch in the car till you can be bothered to sort it... :)

impressive! Ive got a rebuilt 2.9 lump, rebuilt head, loadsa new seals, gaskets, chains, tensioners, guides, clutch etc its about as new as its going to get! Need a set of cams and a 6 branch then it can go back in, hopefully with plenty power! It'll get a map done after its been in and running alright too.

Hiii that'll be me! What car were u in?
-
So theoretically I can get it mapped without the diagnostics port? Yeah the plan was that I would get all the work done, cams in and 6 branch on with all new bits, then get a map, so I can just enjoy driving the balls off it! I've got a rado 2.9 block thats getting some love to replace the old smokey 2.8 And as for a couple of pics:

Cheers for that mate! I'll definitely be investing in a set of these to go with all my other mods, I cant wait for a powerhouse n/a VR! The wait is killling me. When they mapped your motor at stealth, what do they plug into? I dont think my mk2 has the usual diagnostics port, will I need to find an OBD1 VR and change my interior wiring loom so they can map it..? :(

just noticed you were in south yorkshire too, im a sheffield lad so anywhere you could recommend would be getting a visit from me as an xmas present to myself for sure!
-
I didnt think OBD1 VRs were very mappable? Anywhere you can recommend getting it done? Does it make a difference that my VR may not be in a corrado at all?
-
hahaha i want 200bhp from an n/a VR to be more specific... I wont be buying a G60 in the near future im afraid

I haven't had it rr'd yet, it's off the road currently receiving some serious love! I'm just determined that when it comes back on the road it will be able to munch up the tarmac! As it was before, the rings were gone and it was smokey, slow, noisey and unreliable! I'm dreaming of a car that will keep up with my mates new scirocco just to upset him :) cheers

Doubtless, people will tell me to put my vr on the coilpack system, but I HATE fannying about with wiring! Just wondered if 200bhp is feasable from a dizzy 2.9 vr with the right mods? It's had a skim with a new hg, and has the usual induction kit. Not running a cat ATM either, plans are a mild pair of cams and a 6 branch, should that see the magic number or am I pissin in the wind with a dizzy? Appreciate any advice! Cheers

They are both obd1, but it is agreed that the coilpack set up is more efficient and is commonly found to make better Reading on power and torque figures. Having said that, the ecus are different and not interchangable. Also, the obd2 golf ecus that run on a similar coilpack setup have a different ecu again, due to them running different throttlebodies, senders etc.

It is always going to be hard to get it perfect, but when you have equal amounts of thread remaining on the coils it does tend to be off due to weight distribution. Adjusting suspension does throw your geometry out so once you have it set up how you like, ie lowering the coils individually get the trackin done, sorted.
