  1. So basically the engines are the same, just the management. So Im guessing factory setting of the distributor ecu is rubbish compared to the coil pack. But the engine is the same. So does this mean that if I get both remapped they should have identical outputs. Or will the coil pack always be better compared to the distributor.
  2. I have a driven 2 different VR6 engines, both corrado, and both 2.9 ABV, but different ignition systems. One corrado had a distributor (circular ignition system) was a 93 model, and was slower and felt like it had less torque than the coil pack (rectangular ignition system) corrado, coil pack was a 94 model. Why so much difference, as I thought all VR6 corrados came as OBD1 and were rated at the same HP and torque. So im guessing the difference is either in my head :cuckoo: , or in the ECU. What do you guys think, any one driven both and noticed the same thing. Anyway if its the ecu can I just take the ecu from the coil pack (faster car) and plug it into the distributor engine. Thanks,
  3. Not been an expert here but surely you need a return from the turbo back to the sump or am i been stupid or reading it wrong? Sorry for the confusion, i ment it only had an oil input, as in no water, becasue some turbos have water and oil intake. But yeah the turbo has an oil return going back into the sump. Anyway, so Kev, I took the oil breather pipe off, and took the car for a spin, and there was no oil jumping out of the oil refil cap. Is this normal? If so, I think it has fixed the problem of oil squirting out of the oil refiller cap, I am still using the old cap aswell :D which can only be good news. Smoke from the exhaust, well I couldnt tell as it was dark, but I will check again. But before the smoke was definetly blue. Cheers guys, I will be back with more info.
  4. Sorry for flooding this section guys, I been having nightmares of my vr6 going bust. Kev, you mentioned open breather on the rocker cover, where is that? I dont know where to check for that, I think there are two oil leaks, one from the oil cap, and another from the back of the rocker cover, nearest the exhaust manifold, a very slight leak, which probably gets more as the engine rpm increases as it only smokes at high rpm. What else should i check, I will put some pics up of my engine bay later, im shocked how oil can be jumping out of the oil cap on the rocker cover.
  5. Im running a garrett t3 turbo, with only an oil input. So I was just looking at the engine bay. The engine only smokes when the turbo is running. So basically if i rev the engine really slowly upto 3-4k rpm there is no smoke, but when the turbo starts to spool smoke starts comming, the faster the turbo the greater the smoke. When i release my foot from the gas suddenly, the bov opens and there is even more smoke, not sure how that works, or if it is even possible. The leak, the oil is leaking from the oil cap. So basically at high rpm, 4k again, the oil starts splashing out from the sides of the oil cap. I HOPE there is something wrong with the cap, I will change the cap tonight, but what else could it be, because surely the oil pressure shouldnt be that high in the rocker cover. I brought the engine off my brother, he brought it from someone on this site i believe. It has a 9:1 compression ratio. I have not pushed the engine past 4.5K Rpm ever, and only driven it with the turbo, so not sure how it should respond or sound.
  6. My first post in this section :) Quick question guys, I have a VR6 turbo, when I put my foot on the gas (enough to cause the bov to open) I get a lot of smoke comming out of the exhaust and the engine bay, not sure why, I think its probably because my turbo has gone :( . Initially the heat from the turbo melted my oil reservice tank and the brake servo pipe, so for the time being I brought an extra bonnet, cut a massive hole in it to prevent things from melting, its working till now. And it also lets me know the conidtion of the engine. Right now I am getting oil from the engine comming out and splashing onto my windscreen  And there is a lot of oil on my intake manifold. Im using the standard VR6 manifold. Initially i thought it was from the turbo oil return pushing the oil onto the dip stick, forcing it up and then forcing the oil out of the dip stick nozzle. I fixed that with a simple spring, but when I put my foot down I still get oil splashing onto my windscreen, its not a lot, and only happens when the turbo kicks in, i.e. I put my foot on the gas hard. Any ideas what it could be? as i have no idea, the engine sounds healthy (I think).
  7. Hi guys im gona get my car mapped in a few days, just wanted to know, if i want to run 300whp will i need bigger injectors or will a good adjustable fuel pressure regulator do the job. Also to get 300whp what bhp would i need to be running on a standard corrado vr6 turbo. Im thinking around 350. So roughly 15% bhp wasted due to friction and stuff. BTW I have heard that if you have a boost pressure of 1bar you double the bhp produced from the engine. Just want to know if this is true, because in that case running 14.5psi would give you roughly 400bhp, and in that case I should be looking at around 12.5psi to get 350bhp. My engine has a compression ratio of 9:1, using a spacer headgasket, would 12.5psi be risking the health of the engine, I have an intercooler and a water injection kit (needs fitting tho) Thanks guys (Dont send me the link to the forced induction thread, I already looked in there)

    VR6 improvement

I got a question about my wastegate. I think I damaged it some how. Its an external wastegate, with a 10psi spring in it. But the wastegate is always open, even at idle, half the fumes are going out the exhaust manifold and half are exiting the wastegate. So the turbo does not kick in. I have not set up the boost controller yet, but surely the 10psi spring should keep the wastegate closed until the pressure gets close to 10psi.

So, the general consenses is that 268's will increase power and torque over the whole rpm range. Theres a lot of talk about 268's, but I have heard you can get specific turbo cams, Sp Turbo 263 cams. Does any one know about them. There a little more expensive than the 268's. Anyway if any one wants to see the build of the turbo here it is. /viewtopic.php?f=11&t=84486
  10. Basically until now, all i done is changed the engine and put a turbo on it and have an exhaust manufactured for it. The car is basically running but need to setup the boost controllers and stuff. Will put some pics up tomorow of the engine bay, still need to polish it and stuff though. Once the engine bay is complete I will be focusing on the body and the interior.
  11. heres another pic of the oil cooler and the intercooler
  12. Cant find pics of putting the new engine into the corrado. But here are the pics of the engine in the car and adding some of the extras.
  13. Big problem, new engine is coil pack and old engine is distributor. Dont really want to change engine loom and stuff, so just changed the new engine from coil pack to distributor.
  14. Pics of the new engine with the turbo
  15. A pic of the new engine laying on a crate, and the old engine still in the car. You can see the turbo and stuff on the new engine.
