Additional info: On further inspection it looks to me like a criclip has broken on the release handle. It doesn't look like its a replaceable item, does this mean a complete new cable? :( I guess the lack of oppsing tension is why only one bonnet catch is releasing. I have just read your post corradovr6sc,whilst I'm writing this, thanks. If I can apply enough tension like the circlip was doing I should be able to get the other catch open...we'll see!

I had the cooling fan replaced on my VR6 yesterday.I was told it was a real b***h by the mechanic to sort. :| Now as I went to open the bonnet today,(not actually the 1st time since the work)the release handle suddenly went all loose and only the passenger side of the bonnet sort of released. :( I have managed to remove the front grille (which shows evidence of a previous struggle(before the cooling fan work)) :x and can get my fingers round the outer shrouding of the release cable but pulling at it only seems to be bending it(I guess it is like a metal hollow tube that carries the cable),its also very hot at the mo  ,hence the post for help.I realise the mechanics may have something to do with cause but how do I get the drivers side of the bonnet released to find the problem :?: :? Any help would be appreciated :) EDIT Skip to the end for mod.

ditto m8 8) ,I don't suppose you'd have a spare nearside wing mirror in that colour :?:

I have just had to replace my cooling fan due to bearings. :( A used fan will cost approx £70-£100,(new+£300). Fitting cost me £50(2 hours of a mechanics time, not an easy job.) You do not want to be changing the fan in a hurry!!!

Thanks for the tip about the circlip,I do intend to get TA's all round. 8) I have somewhere locally that can realign my suspension after fitting I don't have rear speakers fitted so that will be a plus then :) I suppose a quality drill will enlargen the hole for the spring caps at the rear if nesceasry.

Thanks for your words of wisdom Kev 8) ,I have printed them out and will reccomend the mechanics have a quick read  .I have fitted a sports suspension kit to a mk2 golf I once owned, and was able to use all the original stuff except for the Bump stops at the rear 8) .This time round I'd rather not get my hands dirty (+numerous other reasons) I have found the following parts on the GSF site http://www.gsfcarparts.com/ 45723H Rear bump stops £11.50 45737K Strut top mounting kit £11.00 45722C Susp.Top Mount.-RE Lower £2.50 45722B Susp.Top Mount.-RE Upper £2.50 I take it you have H&R with Koni's,how does the ride height circlip work, what is its purpose :?:

I have just fitted EBC greenstuff on EBC TG discs, still bedding in at the Mo,should be at +300 miles by Sunday.I am intending to update an earlier post of mine"Best method to bed in new brakes?"once they are bed in. :)

I have found the following part numbers for; 45723H Rear bump stops £11.50 45737K Strut top mounting kit £11.00 Sound about right to you?

Good advice about bump stops, they are knackered. 8) Maybe you could mail me a copy of your fitting list if thats possible, please

I am picking up H&R lowering springs(30mm) this weekend,I have a 94 vr6 and realise I need bigger caps(being supplied). My question to anyone who has fitted this combination or has done a similar fit is,will I need any additional parts apart from the Koni TA's to make this work. :?: One other question is am I likely to get rubbing of the wheel arches as I am running 17" TSW Imola's 215/45 profile, they occasionally rub the strut over very bumpy roads on the rear. :?:

I believe it is possible for a mobile phone to cause an electrostatic discharge due to confined/shielded places, like the inside of a metal box...er car...when some of the waves don't get out and bounce around acting a bit like a microwave oven. I guess thats another good reason for an external aerial when using the mobile in the car. 8)

I can only put it down to the air freshner I hung from my rear view mirror triggering the ultra sonics when the car rocked slightly in the wind. Sounds almost obvious now. A lesson to all as dum as me :)
-
Thanks for your replys guys. It has been 24 hrs now,and no false alarms. :) I have levelled the drive a bit, although if it had a movement sensor I would expect it to have triggered when I rocked the car :? Last night I left it out of gear, with the handbrake off,so any wind could do its worst. I haven't moved the air freshner. I cannot seem to find the manufacturer's website, only resellers  Will update this post if any new occourances.

Calm down ,wasn't a break in,my first false alarm! At least I know it can wake me up now. I have only had the car 3 weeks so am still finding my feet a bit  ,but was sure the alarm was "sound"(excuse the pun). I beleive it is a factory fitted full enclosure unit. The name SPYBALL (after surfing the net briefly "SPYBALL" is the name of a "motorcycle" alarm  )is printed on the bottom and a sticker with R57/R on the top. There is also a seperate Immobilser fitted to the car. The alarm sounded twice in succesion before I could get to my key fob to deactivate it.After ensuring it wasn't a break in attempt I reactivated the alarm. Now untill this morning when I activated the alarm it always followed this procedure; 1)press button once(on keyfob) 2)First long tone,2nd long tone, doors lock/windows close. 3)After approx 5-10 seconds 1 short tone. 4)Done 8) This morning step 3) is replaced by 4 short tones. I opened and closed doors, windows, boot, bonnet and have managed to get it down to 2 short tones but was up to 9 short tones at one point. :? Additional info (since ownership): Drivers side lock will not activate central locking, passenger side will. Unable to lock/unlock boot with key, only with full enclosure activation. Additional info (since last night): I parked my car in a differant location on the drive, slight tilt to one side. I left the car in reverse gear, didn't use handbrake,as bedding in new brakes(trying to avoid hotspots). I hung an air freshner from the rear view mirror. It was very cold and a bit windy last night. Questions: :? 1)Does the alarm have a tilt/vibration switch? :? 2)I have noticed 2 rotatable pots and some dip switches on the unit, what do these control? :? I have just been out to the car and reset the alarm and you guessed it, 3)After approx 5-10 seconds 1 short tone. *&$!* and hooray. I am open to suggestions and theories

Glad to hear your up and running again. :turn-l: CASE not closed :shaking: I am eager to learn of your new found knowledge as anyone would do for you, right.

Thanks for your opinions, the softly, softly approach would be my fisrt choice then.Anyone find a qiuck way to bed in their brakes, successfully?
-
I am having new EBC Turbo groove discs and green stuff pads fitted on Friday :D .My question to anyone is what's the best method for bedding in new discs&pads together :?: .Should they be bed quickly using the "brake from 60-5mph,repeat 10 times"method,or using the "light braking for the next 300 miles"method? :? :? I am new to the forum so I don't want to step on anyones toes, but I was looking for a good combo for washing and waxing without taking a out a "small loan" :).I did read up on the Swissol range and the posts in here and from what I can gather produces very good results.I also looked at the P.T.F.E range of cleaners "never need to wax again" and at around £50 for a starter was tempted. I can say I have found a combination that I am very pleased with and has cost me less than £18. I use Turtlewax Zipwax to wash the car(gives a good finish on its own)1 litre bottle does 60 washes.I use zymol cleaner wax to give that mirror like shine, and if you follow all the instructions fully you will not be dissapointed. All available from Halfords. Zymol recommend minimum 3-4 waxes a year, but a 500ml bottle would generously do 1/month for a year if you wanted to. I am very happy with the immediate results, have yet to see if it lasts, but at less than £18 haven't lost much either. 8)
