The "what I did to my Corrado today" thread...
WreckedGecko replied to Jim's topic in General Car Chat
Again, not today, but over the last few weeks... Bought an R32 engine, bought a Corrado VR6, ripped VR6 engine out. Tore cross member, slam panel and subframe out, breaking at least one piece of each. Replaced all of the above. Bought new Jetex exhaust, 312mm brakes/calipers, steering wheel, Neuspeed ARBs, rear beam, KW V3s etc etc.. Then didn't have time to fit any of them. Am currently waiting on the powdercoater to do his bit on all the underpinnings so that NormanCoal can shove the R32 in. I am all about the frustration at the moment. Oh and also tried to rid the front end of rust, during which I discovered that rattle can paint codes are not that reliable. :censored: -
Good on you for putting the effort in and getting a rado back on the road. I hope it comes together a bit easier in the future!

Bit O/T but the VW garage in the City of London, is horrible too. Walked in there because they had a new Roc R in the window and was met with "err.. yes, can we help you?" in a very condesending tone. When I asked if that was the new R in the corner, I was told to "go and speak to a sales person, I really dont know." At which point she went back to her paperwork totally ignoring me. Needless to say I didn't bother. It was also what made me decide to definatly spend the money on an R32 conversion (saving a shed load!) rather then buying something new. Silly really, but there you go. -
I am mid R32 build at the moment as well! Seems there are a few of us now. I was lucky and managed to grab most of Norman Coal's bits from his R32 Jetta. I actually did it all a bit arse about face, I bought the engine and then went and found a Corrado for it! Just waiting on powder coating subframes/rear beams etc before the new engine/kw v3s go in. Well thats what is supposed to happen anyway. I am just waiting for the next problem to crop up and cause delays... :gag:

Apparently in Japan after the war, most of the nice cars were either american or european, so were LHD. It is something of a status symbol to have a LHD car in Japan. May also be something to do with import taxes as well, showing you can afford it etc.

I have actually got both at the moment, the Rado is mid r32 transplant, and the Gti-6 is my current runabout,(needs some TLC) at least untill the rado is finished, so the pug is for sale in a casual sort of way (hint hint :D ). I enjoy them both both for very different reasons. The Gti-6 you can hammer, but it has the 6 speed box for crusing, and a suprising amount of torque for a 4 pot. Plus its got the half leather and alcantara (spelling?) interior. But the downsides are that the cambelt tends to go every 30-40,000 and when it goes it can be more economical to get an new engine then repair the snapper. The C you can naturally waft with and then dive into some B roads when you feel like it. Its a fizzy little hot hatch vs a powerful coupe. If you are in london any time soon i would be more then happy to take you out in the Pug, sadly the Rado has no engine or front suspention or indeed any form of front crossmember at the moment, so getting about in that would be difficult.

Saw the rado at UD mate, looked great! What gear knob do you have in there now? Is it a polo one?? The porsche seats looked awesome, were they difficult to fit in? -
Hi all. As i am looking to buy a 20v t Corrado at the moment, (and this seems to be the place for the 20v! :notworthy:) i thought i would ask ask if there are any well known problem spots to look out for with the conversion? Or is it down to the skill of the person who dropped it in? Also if anyone knows of any straight cars coming up for sale do let me know! Thanks!
