  1. Some size of a thread!!! Great to know there's a wealth of knowledge on the engine swap in here if I'm stuck with my 24v. For anybody active on the thread - I know the manifold is a mix up of Corrado VR part and Golf 4mo part. Does anybody do a stainless manifold and is it easy enough to get a decat fitted? Are there any implications other than noise levels and next MOT I should be considering? Thanks guys.
  2. Looks like 16's will be the best shout overall. Thanks guys. For 240hp it's got a big induction filter and a cat back exhaust system, running a mishmash of a combo between a VR6 & a 4mo manifold. Depends how accurate the RR is I suppose, but it's no slouch :)
  3. Makes sense if it's an out and out race car. How many laps are you out doing in one race, and how many races per weekend? Like you say an occasional track car that's fast road most of the time would be fine with them. I could be interested in the Wilwoods price dependent when/if they become available. I'd need to look into changing the rotor bells to 5x100 though. Not a big issue, as long as the brackets for the same on both 5 stud and 4 stud hubs.
  4. Sounds like a worthwhile upgrade. Are they getting too hot because of the speed you are hitting when applying the brakes coming into the corners, or because the brakes are being used more with the extra power round the track?? Currently looking into wheel/tyre choices for the 24v track car. Dare say something less substantial would be suffice on it, although its a 5x100 setup. Probably going to be 16" wheels as well. Looks brilliant. Look forward to seeing you at Khill next year.
  5. Awesome!!! What front brake setup is it you are running and what size of wheel??
  6. Thanks for the feedback guys. Much appreciated. Lots of good information. Just to confirm, it's not a standard VR6, it's a 24v converted Vr6 with 240hp and 232 lb/ft. Mic what style of MO do you have and with what offset? Sounds like the perfect setup. 16's are defo a consideration to open more avenues for bigger brakes, as they also fit over the current 312 TT brakes. The only factor is tyre replacement costs in comparison to 15's are much more expensive.
  7. Thanks for reply Sean. Had looked at the 288 upgrade before, however I'm looking for something more non-OEM, likes of Wilwood, Brembos etc. The car currently has a 312mm brake setup from the TT, but means having 16's minimum. The car would probably handle better with a 15" wheels. Also replacement track tyres will work out cheaper each time required as well. Cheers Stevie
  8. Hi guys, Have a track orientated Corrado VR6 and looking into a big brake kit of some kind. I'd be looking a getting something substantial but still able to fit under 15's if possible. The best off-the-shelf product I can find that isn't OEM is a 306mm K-Sport kit, but even that MIT be pushing it. Short of needing to get a custom kit made up, what options are anybody aware off that would cater my needs? Am I better sticking with 15's for handling or would I be better with 16's? Any help and info would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Stevie
  9. That sounds like a expensive mod and not sure how good it will be when I eventually go FI. An LSD will be on the list eventually, will do that once the car needs a clutch done :)
  10. My civic is a 451hp turbo charged 1.8 (B18) that iv thrown everything into. The Corrado will be FI later down the line, but I can get the full exhaust system done and ready in the mean time, a decent filter for a couple bhp until FI does happen, which probably won't be until summer at the very earliest. You're not putting me off don't worry. Iv had 4 VR's before so know the costs involved. Iv got my budget in mind and from what iv priced up for initially getting it caged, seats in, painted, exhaust and on the road, I'm well on target :) It's what else I need to spend once that's all done, daft things like a service etc etc that will all add up.
  11. Thanks mate. The Corrado will be alot cheaper than the civic has been Over the years that's a definite. Honda scene demands strong money for things, but VW isn't much better in honesty for certain parts. By doing things myself as much as possible will keep costs down. Won't need to big too many parts I don't think (I hope lol) just the breathing mods, cage, seats, harnessess and the painting material as will be painting it myself along with my Dad. It's once I start looking into tuning, the costs will easily increase.
  12. Hi guys Currently breaking my very high spec Honda Civic to fund a house deposit with my fiancée, but she was quickly told that I would still have a cheap project on the side that I could tinker about with. She is getting to go on holiday to Florida next summer so fair is fair This was not long advertised and I kept on looking at it. Went for a look and is the ideal start for what we're looking to do. Also an added bonus I one the seller :) Corrado VR6. Interiors already pretty much striped out it. Engines done 160odd thousand but been rebuilt in the last 8k. Compomotive MO alloy wheels also on it now with very good Uniroyal Rainsport tyres. Need a refurb and tyres are huge but will be fine for the meantime. Plans are to fit a weld in cage, respray it as its pretty rough just now. Whoever painted it last time needs out down. Keeping the colour im going for quiet just now. Only ever seen one done the colour I plan before and it looks amazing. Fixed bucket seats and 4-point-harnesses, coilovers, Laminex'd headlights, all red rears, simple breathing mods to begin with then later next year will hopefully be supercharger time. Main work won't start until after Christmas probably. Got the Civic to break over the next few weeks then its work work work from there to try and get house bought. Looking forward to starting work on it and set about it.

    Rollcages

That's defo an option I could go for that and put some additional bars in as and where I fancy them. How negotiable is the price if I collect it? Where in Aberdeen are you? Cheers

    Rollcages

I have a cage builder local to me in Falkirk, Central Scotland who is a good friend of mine, so was going to use him if all else fails. emu, that looks like something I could be very interested in. Does the dash need to be modified to fit this? Sunroof need to be removed? Do you have any images of the rest of the cage sections?

    New guy

Hi folks. Been on the VAG scene for a while, had a corrado 2.0 8v before bit about to take ownership of a VR6 track project this week. It's a secret from the fiancée though, will be hidden up in my unit lol. I'm Steve from Falkirk. SAW is my nickname that most people know me by. Had a fair few Vw's in the past. 3xMk2 VR6's, few Mk3 GTI's, couple Mk4's and a couple Polo's including a really nice Mk3 GT. Will be in for alot of suspension parts and go-faster bits, but will start off with getting the car stripped as light as possible and caged up before a colour change and some other fancy bits and bobs Progress will take a while, I'm breaking my 450hp EK Civic of the last 7 years to fund a house purchase, so things will be either extremely cheap or free on the Corrado progress to start with :)

    Rollcages

Hi folks I'm about to take ownership of a Corrado VR6 that im going to make into a track car. Part of this process includes getting a roll cage fitted to the car. Iv seen the Custom Cages one and it look amazing, defo keen on it. Just wondered if there are any other options available and where Else they can be purchased before I dive in for the custom cages one. Cheers Steve
