Just had an e-mail from Regal saying that it isn't possible to remap the 9A. WTF?? :gag: Is the 9A ECU tunable/mappable or not???
-
My missus (bless her!) just text me to say that she saw a white G-reg Corrado in Yeovil around lunch-time. Think it would have been around/near ASDA, as she was on her way to the hairdressers. Another 'Rado native to Yeov's on here?

2.0 16v's have an ECU, 1.8 16v's are all mechanical. Been e-mailing Stealth Racing about it.

Saw a Scirocco with a TDi engine going around Castle-Combe. It was very rapid and surprisingly noisy! Diesel's are very clever engines now, and I think (for an everyday car) they are better and faster than their petrol equivalents (I'm talking naturally-aspirated here) because of the amount of torque the engines produce. As for the 'made-up and doubled' MPG readings, I'd have to disagree with that comment totally :bad-words: If a diesel is producing 45mpg on a motorway run at sensible speeds, you have to question the health of the engine (or the number of people in the car and the amount of weight you're carrying in the boot ). At steady motorway cruising my diesel sat around 55mpg, and at sensible motorway cruising I managed to get up to 65mpg. The miles between fill-ups (I always reset my trip miles after I refill) on that occasion verified that the on-board computer was telling the truth  As for the conversion - I'd say it would be nice to see a few more of these and imagine it would increase the re-sell value. Of course, I sold my diesel to get back into big petrol engines and many people are anti-diesel anyway, but I'd never say no to a diesel 'Rado - especially as a daily runner. And people can't deny that modern diesels are no longer sluggish and noisy. It's a damn good compromise that should keep the Corrado going for a long time yet  Good luck - and be sure to make a build thread if you go for it :salute:

Saw these on eBay and they look quite promising: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT But I value and respect my Corrado far too much just to bung it in. But they are getting good feedback and with today's technology I appreciate that this could be done cheaply and easily by garages. Anyone fitted these or is it something that should be given a wide birth?

Yeah, no need for a spring compressor. I will soak the wishbone bolts in WD40 this week and will hopefully enjoy better luck next weekend. I've put the coilover back in for now. I've removed the front splitter because it was scraping over every speed bump and when I drove on/off the drive. Looks a little daft because you can see the metal bracket, but saves damaging the splitter further.
-
I had go a trying to loosen them and I couldn't get the bolt to budge  I need the car tonight and as I've spent two hours on one corner I'm going to have to put the coilover back in a tackle it again next weekend. I'll have another go at that bolt then if that's what you recommend. Thanks for the advice :salute:

I'm taking the coilovers off to give them a good recon, so I'm fitting the old standard suspension. I've got the front one off but the wishbone doesn't seem to drop far enough down for me to get the longer standard kit back in. I've disconnected the anti-roll bar but it hardly made a difference. Is their something else I can do, or something that I'm missing? Surely I don't have to take the wishbone off??? Thanks all

Saw a white or silver (pretty sure it was white - but the sun was shining in my face!) just approaching the Bere Regis round-about on the A35, heading away from Dorchester around 5:15pm. He spotted me before I saw him and we exchanged head-light flashes. Didn't get the reg 'cos of the sun glare, but I was in my dark-blue 16v C. The other 'Rado was sat low and looked pretty sweet!

My spoiler seems to be working fine. It works off the switch and comes up at around 55mph. However, it only comes down when the car stops. Is this standard, 'cos I've seen them come down at a higher speed. Is it possible to set it to come down around 30mph, say? Many thanks!

Cool, will have a look through the threads. Belts will come off next week and I'll do an invetigation  Thanks for advice, fella's!
-
Haha! Well hopefully it's not the crank then  OK, so maybe it's just the pulley then. No haven't got the belt off cos I'm not home yet. Will probably do it sometime next week. I'm just gathering research at the mo! Ok, well I've seen plenty of crank pulley's, and what you've said explains why I can't find the pulley bearings  But, hey, I'm learning! Cheers for the info :salute:

OK, been having a look at a few threads and found one on Club GTi that was quite promising! I have a squealing problem that I'm 80% sure is the crank pulley. I'm planning on getting the belts off to have a better look but as I understand it all the belts and pulley's are interchangeable between the 9A and KR?? If so, this will make acquiring stuff much easier. Can anyone verify this? Also, does anyone know where I can get a crank pulley bearing from? I'm struggling to find one on Google! Cheers all
-
Haha! I don't car if it is a bit of a money-pit - I love it! I think it might be both the alternator AND the pulley bearing! On start-up when the engine is cold it squeaks on tick-over. I'm 80% sure it's the pulley, anyway - it's a bit hard to get your head down there  Are these easy to change and where can I get one from??
-
Gave it a good squirt with WD40 and it did quieten down. Looks like an alternator change, too  I've only owned the car for a few days and it's already turning into a money pit :brickwall:
-
No, just topped up the coolant as it was just below the minimum mark. But it made no difference. The fan goes mad after you turn the engine off, too. Stays on for a few minutes. So, it looks like a coolant flush followed by the removal of hoses if flushing doesn't work, then?
-
Now then, now then... I'm a complete Corrado noob so pardon my ignorance! After giving up trying to find a 'clutch cable' (I've owned a Scirocco's for the last few years) I decided that my search was futile and 'that pipe there' must mean the Corrado's clutch is hydraulic. After searching on here I see that it is! Why would it be squeaking? It happens mostly when it's almost fully depressed and is quite loud. It's not metal squeaking - def plastic/hard rubber. Anyone got any ideas?
-
Hi all, is 110 the normal running temp for a 2.0 16v? Fan is nearly always on so wondering if it should sit lower than this? Thanks
-
Ok, cool! Will keep the 9A head on and just swap the inlet cam over :salute:
-
Ok, bud - I'll try that first thing tomorrow
-
Cool! Let me know how you get on! How come you're doing it - for the power gain or just because the old 9A head was tired?
-
I'm sure this question has been passed around quite a lot, so apologies for this. I have a complete KR engine sat in my garage and I've heard of people fitting the KR head onto the 9A block :norty: I know the KR inlet camshaft does wonders to the 9A but how about swapping the entire heads over? Is it better than just changing the cam? Many thanks all
-
If you do decide to change the cams and sell your old KR's... give me a shout
-
You might be on to something there. Forgive my ignorance, but is their a pulley that is more prone to this or is it shooting in the dark?
