Right - the boot light works, it was just disconnected, and the glove-box light has a blown bulb, so it's neither of them :( However, when I was looking at the boot light there was wires piggy-backed off of it - some sort of home-made job. I traced them to under the rear bench seat but couldn't get them up to have a proper look (searched the forum, and now I know how :grin:), but from what I could see it was some sort of metal box - is this the ABS controller, or something? I think thee mystery wires go to there, or they might carry on to something else. I seem to take one step forward with this car, and then three steps back!! :lol:

No, I didn't know that about the indicator stalks :grin: Well, I've never actually seen the boot light or glove-box light working :lol: But something I forgot about was the radiator fan - when I turn the engine off the fan can run for ages after. But then once I caught it coming back on again a few minutes later. I wonder if this is what happened? But I will go and check the glove/boot lights 8)

    ABS Light...

    How did I miss the ABS light!?! It's right there in front of me :lol: OK, so I took it out and sure enough their is no bulb. In fact, it's been smashed out :( So I need a new ABS light unit and then start fault-finding to see if any of the recommendations cure the problem. I'm assuming the problem is still there - there's no receipt showing a fix to the ABS following the MOT failure. It looks so well looked-after, but the owner at the time obviously didn't care for it that much :bad-words:

    Ah - I looked only quickly there. But if it's black until lit then that'll explain why I missed it :D Well, I don't think it lit up. I saw on a previous MOT that there was an ABS light on, but I can't see any paper work to say that the problem was fixed. Will have to pull it out and have a look. Many thanks!
  5. I was looking under the dash earlier and spotted something that didn't look right... Where the bonnet-pull is, it looks like a panel is missing because it's all bare. Is there supposed to be one here (late 2.0 16v)? It looks like the person that fitted/removed the alarm that use to be their did a bad job and left screws out and panels are missing :(

  7. Parked my Corrado in the garage on Sunday, jumped in it today and the battery wasn't having any of it. The thing is, it's an almost brand-new calcium battery and their was nothing left switched on in the car, their is no alarm and, as mentioned, she's in a garage! So why? As I was tinkering with the car I noticed that the drivers' side side-light and tail light were on, and seemed to stay on. Obviously this is a parking light, but I'm not sure if I've seen this before and can't remember if they were on when I parked her up. Is this just a feature of the Corrado when you park up and exit the car or completely abnormal? Is their anything else notorious on the 'Rado that would drain the battery in 4 days? I've not left her alone this long since I've owned her, but that's only been a couple of weeks anyway. Thanks in advance

    Quoted from the pre-buying check-list: "ABS – Should be included on all VR6 and 2.0 16V's (should also have traction control as well). Some later G60's had ABS. It was also an option on the other models as well. There should be an orange ABS light in the dash to the left of the driver (It has been known for cars with faulty ABS for the warning light to just be removed!!" OK, I may have suffered the ABS light being removed. Is this actually labelled 'ABS', or is it just a unmarked filament? Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but I just want to be sure about all this. If someone could take a pic of this lamp illuminated, that would really help me. I seem to keep finding things wrong with my Corrado :brickwall: But I love it :luvlove:

    Cool, well that's good news then! At least I know that I haven't been fooled by the previous owner! Where does it tell you how long each person owned the car for??

  12. Go to a vag tuner and expect to pay 1.8t conversion prices so anywhere between 3 and 5k i guess. Didn't realise it was that much :gag:

    Ha! Thanks for that! Had a look and the tests go back to 2005 with 48k on the clock! Their in a funny order, but the only tests done recently are 2005,2008, 2009 and 2010. There's only 3000 miles between '05 and '08, so not sure what happened there? One of the failures though was an ABS warning light - I need to make sure that the filament hasn't been removed to 'cure' the fault. Apart from that it's all wear-and tear stuff like exhaust, brakes and bushes :clap: I take it they don't go back further than 2005 with recorded MOT's?

    I agree, never owned a higher or lower mileage valver but mine with 128k on the clock with a solid history and good maintenance is a bit of a flyer imo for what it is... Mk3 Vr's are the best to toy with, they're either slower than i thought they'd be or my valvers got more than the 140 odd brake it should have lol. The owners always think mines a vr, then i tell em its a 2.0 valver and their faces drop, love it! Yeah, it pulls really well :grin: But I don't like to drive it hard at the moment until I have given the lump a good going over. Just ordered a decat (I've got to fit a new exhaust anyway, so thought I'd do that little cheeky mod!) and I'm trying to get hold of KR cams/head to drop them in. Then I'll look at drilling the airbox 'cos it looks really restrictive - but then I want to make sure that the 9A prefers more air first, or if it prefers smaller-diameter induction? Then, finally, a Magnex exhaust system (they rock!) and maybe a ported head :grin: Anyway, I digress from the topic. If then car has been clocked, then so-be-it, but I'd prefer to know instead of being lied to - even if it is a 200k miler. Engines are cheap enough that I can just pick up another one!

    Hmmm - that sounds like good news for me :grin: So I guess it's safe to say , from what you said, Supercharged, that either my engine just needs a good service and set-up or it's completely worn-out!

    Well, I say mint, but there is slight wear on the bolster but nothing near as bad as I've seen. The material is bobbling a little, but no snagging. Saying that, my other car has done more mileage and there is no wear - but then I compared it to age, not mileage (Corrado is 16yrs and the other car is 5yrs). I suppose the bolster is something that would wear with mileage, not age :? Steering wheel and gear-knob are fine, though. Suppose I should look for evidence of a clock-change. Hmmm... :cry:

    Hi all, My Corrado averages about 15mpg around town and 30mpg on the motorway. This obviously would even seem wrong to a dead chimp, but the plugs, leads, etc seem very tired and I figured that replacing these would most likely cure the issue. The engine's tick-over is a little up and down, but nothing (I thought) that a damn good service and set-up from a garage wouldn't cure. But I've just read about clocking Corrado's - I didn't think it was possible on a digital display so it never crossed my mind. Mine's done 78k and has had 5 owners. It has no service history before the previous owner, but he's included the last 3 MOT's and all the servicing he carried out (it was a lot, and to me this made it seem that he cared for the car). Is it possible (and I mean worst-case scenario) that I've bought a clocked 2.0 16v, and the engine problem could be bad compression through wear and tear (as in, it's more likely done 178k)??! :shock: The more I think about it the more I become suspicious! Are there any tell-tales to a clocked Corrado? The body-work and interior are pretty much mint, and the underside doesn't seem too bad (wishbones, subframe and rear beam has rusting, but nothing that looks serious). The engine bay itself needs a damn good clean, but I put this down to age more than miles-driven. I'm thinking of having a compression test done now. How much are these??

  21. I need some seat-handle for my front seats (the ones that allow you to bring the front seats forward to let people in the back) as I don't have any. Are there a number of handles that I can get to fit in here, or is it something that is Corrado specific? Many thanks
