been having a search on here and seems all of you other vr6 owners have electronic controlled MPG gauges. confused, mines definately vacuum. Mines a 1992 K reg 2.9 v6 with an ABV engine. im guessing the canister is to stabilise the vacuum to give an accurate reading for the MPG gauge but again if anyone is in the know it would be very helpfull. cheers

Hi all the MPG reading on my mfa has stopped working on my vr6, had a look under the bonnet and the hose that comes through the bulk head has a plastic canister, looks like a fuel filter but without any filter inside it. This had melted on the manifold. ive fitted a new bit of pipe by-passing the melted canister and the mpg reading works again. Any ideas what the canister is for? do i need to get another? cheers all :)

Hi all I have a 1992 K reg 2.9 corrado VR6, am looking to get some 40mm lowering springs, have had a search on ebay and have found a set of pi springs, but it says something about a 80mm pigtail?? Anyone know if this is correct for my car? i can only measure the middle of the spring in situ, which is much more than 80mm so assume the measurement should be taken at the top of the spring. Have done a search but no had alot of luck. cheers!

thanks for the replys chaps! Good news on the unecessary water pump and the fuel rail, also thanks for the tips on the running issues. Good few things to check!! Now for this ecotek debate, what the feck is an ecotek?? never heard of it, whats it supposed to do! Any ideas how i can remove it and put it back to how its supposed to be? anyone got a breather pipe picture or diagram? cheers people, really liking this forum! Will get some pics up tomorrow though a little embarissed as the paint and wheels are hideous. 1st things to go! -
Hi all After having a 1.8 16v kr for a few years, ive gona and bought myself a vr6! Spotted it cheap in auto trader, its in tvr pearlesant paint which is hideous and will be re-sprayed when funds allow but it was a good price so cant complain too much. Anyhow got a few issues which i could do with abit of advice on, 1stly the plug for the additional water pump? (see pic) is missing, i assume it has been disconnected for some reason? i assume this is bad and needs to be re-connected? it dosent overheat atall, use or pressurise the coolant but assume it must be there for a reason! Its also running abit rough, mainly just at low revs, really poppy on over-run and dosent rev smoothly, any ideas? its got the following nasty after-market accesories fitted, possibly the cause? Also noticed whilst poking around under the bonnet that theres a spare outlet on the fuel rail, looks to be blank inside but thought id better make sure there shouldnt be something on it Many thanks in advance, im new to the vr6 world so any help from you experts would be mucho appreciated

Hi all Been doing the timing belt on my 1.8 kr, when I line the timing Mark up on the flywheel, looking through the inspection hole. The Mark on the cam pulley isn't perfectly lined up, about 1.5mm out, the arrow on the rocker cover is pointing at the edge of the tooth with the Mark as opposed to the centre. Anything to worry about? I've tried moving it but can't get it any closer than this, it runs fine and is doing 30+ mpg, wonder if it's just where the rocker covers bin off in the past.

Hello mate It does it on acceleration and when you hold it between 2500-3500 rpm, but only in 1st. The only other time the noise can be heard is intermittently coming in when cruising along at motorway speed. Yeh I'd be surprised if it was the release bearing as it's silent at idle. Not checked the oil yet, I changed it couple of months ago and set the level to where it should be and there's no obvious leaks. Hmm... Next point of call will be check the level then maybe try a different oil, I thought these boxes took the same as the old golfs gl4 I believe? but Gsf insisted gl5 was correct. Cheers

Meant to say the howl at 2500-3500 is only in 1st gear

Hi all Did a gearbox oil change a couple of months ago on my 1990 1.8 16v I was supplied with gl5 oil. Over the last couple of days it's started howling between 2500-3500rpm. The noise intermittently comes in and out when cruising at motorway speed. Goes silent if you dip the clutch. Any ideas other thank cream crackered bearings in the box? Did I use the correct oil? Many thanks

Hi all Have done a serach but am looking for a guide on how to check the ignition timing. i used to have a mk2 golf gti and that had 2 marks on the flywheel through the bell housing inspection hole. Is it the same principle on the corrados? I have had a look in the and there is 2 timing marks, one is a faint line with a circle on the end and the other is a slightly thicker line without a circle! Am i right in thinking one is tdc and the other is the timing mark? I have an advanced gun so could do it off the tdc marker if i knew the degrees setting. Its a 1990 1.8kr and the distributer is on the end of the camshaft. thanks in advance :)

So are we saying the picture of my engine bay looks like a 2.0?
-
im pritty certain its a 1.8kr unless someone has changed it in the past, only had it a few weeks but says 1.8kr on the log book and all looks factory under the bonnet. Thanks for the link swiftkid, i bought the metering head, pipes and injectors this morning that where advertised in the for sale bit. Cant wait for them to arrive, missing the rado!

Hi all Have a problem, one of my flexible injector pipes was splitting where it connects onto the metel pipe so i stupidy thought it would just be a case of cutting the split bit out and pushing the pipe back on, or just replacing it with abit of fuel hose. However after removing it i have realised its solid plastic and it wasnt even split inb the 1st place it was just the outer rubber skin :brickwall: Anyhow, what can i do? I cant get the pipe back on, have tried heating it, opening it up all with no success. I have rang VW who have sold me a reel of the hose at great expense which is due in on wednesday but even when that arrvies im gona have the same problem of not being able to get it on! Anyone got any ideas? I take it the pressure is too high to use fuel hose or they would have done it in the 1st place. Alternatively if someone has a set of the pipes for sale? heres a picture of my horses arse behavior.

Hi all Newbie here! I have a 1990 1.8 16v, will get some pics posted up soon. Have a few issues though and am after abit of advice! firstly, my headlight switch has malfuctioned sending 12v's down the earth wire causing it to melt, ive replaced the wire and put an inline fuse in to stop it happening again, just trying to get hold of a new switch. VW wanted £55 + vat which seemed a tad steep. Anyone know of a cheaper source? Did a search earlier and someone mentioned using one from a mk2 golf, had a look on ebay and they all seem to be 7 or 8 pin rather than 11. If this is possible anyone have a part number? Or is it possible to repair the switch? Ive taken it apart but cant see anything obvious. Secondly the rubber pipes that run from the unit ontop of the airbox to the injectors, mine are all badly perished and look like they will let me down sooner rather than later. Am struggling to find fuel hose that size, what do you guys use? many thanks in advance :D
