Corradoholic replied to CrazyDave's topic in Interior

Headlight switch and loom fires.....DIY prevention
Corradoholic replied to CrazyDave's topic in Interior
Hi guys, just had a look behind the dreaded headlight switch...hoping for the best....but finding the worst. it seems that the brown wire has completely burned the casing from the wire as far as i can see leaving just the bare wire. i take it that this is a bit of an issue. There is some minimal damage to the other wiring that i can see but i dont know how far down the wire is melted or what other issues there may be.....but there are no non working electrics as far as im aware. can someone please advise me on which items i should replace - should i do the headlight loom upgrade, new switch and in-line fuse modification? are all necessary and is anything else required? Many thanks, Max (not looking forward to driving his car for a few days) -
update: have changed the front and rear engine mounts - but not gearbox one yet - and problem still remains. will try something else.

Tricky one this. Can you do something alarm related? i know you can get some car alarms with proximity warnings on them or are set to be sensitive to approaching enemies...but these may cost you a fair whack and could easily end up waking you up in the night everytime a cat walks past. what about just waiting for them to go near the car / for the ball to hit it and then remotely activating your alarm using the 'panic' function? after a while they might get the idea that is not the done thing to mess with the car and also should raise the parents attention to what they are doing/where they are? this is the more cowardly option than speaking to the parents...... but might also turn out to be fun :smug:

Thanks Dave, received mine today. Im looking forward to having a bash at it this weekend (yes....and might get round to fixing the doors too) Cheers, Max -
Im having this issue at the moment - have adjusted my throttle dampner as it wasnt doing anything, helped a little but problem still there. Am going to replace engine mounts next as there seems to be a fair ammount of movement there. im going to do a search for 'dry solder' now tho!

Id second that! If you've got space...and there's no rush... and can afford to ... its a no-brainer in my book and something i'd love to do. ....when you've got one its easy to forget how amazing they are and its taken til now to realise that my life is just a little bit duller without a VR6 in it

hi jay, have all the available sets been taken? (i know its a bit last min) If not, how soon might they be available? im booked in for my engine mounts to be swapped this week so if we can sort out the timing then it might all come good!...or i might be able to put him off for a few days :) cheers - max

Just a note to say hello - I've just dived back into the world of Corrado's with VR6 No.3 and currently going through the honey-moon period of being totally obsessed with it (as im sure most of you will be able to identify!) I've had a different username in the past but have long since forgotten the details and i think the email address was a work one for a job long forgotten so have started from scratch to mark the start of a new era. I've found the forum so useful in the past (in its various guises) and have already found the answer to some of my recent queries...... and ive only been back on here for a week! will drop you guys a donation asap to show my appreciation. Many thanks, Max

On my latest VR6 purchase the previous owner has decided to paint the engine cover black....and to no surprise its also got the classic VR crack down it like my previous 2 had. I've removed it (as the clips have also snapped off) and quite like it without....and wondered if anyone else had chosen to remove theirs and also if anyone has any reason why it should remain on, other than for cosmetic purposes? what say you? cheers, Max

Hi guys - just had a thatcham Cat 1 fitted to my latest corrado by a guy called joe from Top Marques vehicle security. He did the job in 3 hours, at my work and at a competetive price. just thought id post it in case anyone was after a recommendation. id give him 'top marks' ( cheap gag sorry). max
